There were very few things Tosh enjoyed better in the City than shopping for "supplies". Which at the moment included a range of items from motherboard components to sheets of plexiglass.

Secret project, you know.

She stood in front of a shop window in the underground, nose almost touching the glass as she eyed a display of reduction gears and waited for Tony to join her.

Tosh laughed. "Tony Stark 2.0. I'm going to remember that. And a few months is hardly enough time to figure things out. Even for you."

"It wouldn't be if I wasn't save the world all the time," he said ruefully, which was true. The Director of SHIELD was a full time job, he had no idea how Fury had managed it with being just an "ordinary" human.

Tosh slipped her arm around Tony's back. "Well, just let me express gratitude on behalf of the world for you being the one who's there to save it. It's a lucky world."

Tony smiled and leaned against her a bit. "Well thank you. You haven't seen my world so as far as you know I've made it even worse."

"Well, I happen to know first-hand that having you around makes a place better, so I don't think I need to have seen your world to figure out that it's better off for having you in it."

Tosh cocked her head and shot Tony a challenging look. Go ahead, disagree with that one.

Tony's face darkened for just a moment. He wondered if she would say that if she knew about everything. About the Registration Act, Caps death, the Skrulls...

"You'd have to see my world first," was all Tony said. "But I do try my best."

Noticing the change of expression, Tosh frowned a little, her hand absently smoothing over Tony's back.

"I wish I could. Maybe someday you'll invent a way for people to travel to other worlds, and you can take me for a visit."

"Maybe someday," he said with a bit of a nod. The idea of having Tosh see his world though was not that pleasant of one. "Until then, you're just stick with me here."

Oblivious to the idea that Tony didn't much want Tosh seeing his world, she smiled up at him. Then she spotted the wine shop, and bounced up on her toes to kiss him before heading for it.

"Won't be a minute!"

A few minutes later, she reappeared, cradling a bottle of wine in the crook of her arm and looking accomplished. "I think we're set for our evening, Mr Stark."

Tony waited patiently, half tempted to fly the car around to pick them up but he decided that he liked walking with Tosh. It was fun to not do the quickest, most efficient thing.

"Great, we should get to my place just about the time the food is delivered," he told her with a wink. "And then we'll see how far into the movie we'll get."

"I'm hungry, so at least as far as takes for us to have something to eat," Tosh teased. She wished now she'd had the box delivered, because she'd have liked to hold his hand or have his arm around her, but she figured she could make up for it once they got to the apartment.

"It's a good thing you've always had such thoughtful roommates, keeping out of the way like they do when I'm over. One of these our luck's going to run out, you know."

"I think it's just Starbuck now," Tony said. He hadn't seen his other roommate in a long time and figured him gone. "And I don't think she's one to stay at home quite a bit."

Tony grinned at her and leaned over to bump her shoulder. "Trust me, I'd know they were coming long before they surprised us."

"I still need to meet her. Think I talked to your last roommate once, but I never met him face to face."

Tosh was grateful this Starbuck is out a good bit, although she grinned up at Tony and added, "Well, I imagine it would be much more embarrassing for them."

"She's pretty interesting," he said. "Comes from a reality where they're looking for Earth and robots have nearly wiped out humanity. And she's a fighter pilot. She keeps talking about a Viper. I want to try and build one."

Tony laughed and glanced over at her. "Yes, it probably would be."

Tosh's expression grew serious at the mention of robots wiping out humanity, and her steps slowed just a bit. "Really? That's pretty interesting, although I don't think a fighter jet would do much good here. Don't think you can fly that high up from the City, can you?"

"That's why I have security checks against computers systems from becoming AIs." Tony said. "We've had some problems with those in my world and I'd rather not go up against some of that stuff again. Not that my security checks have been 100% successful."

Tony pondered her other question for a moment. "I don't know, really. The car can go fairly high and you could probably pull some maneuvers. Really, I just want to see if I can build it."

"Good. I'm glad to hear that. We've had our own troubles with them, and I'd just as soon never have to see another Cyberman as long as I live."

Tosh glanced up at him and smiled. "Don't blame you there, anyway. Would be a pretty neat project, wouldn't it?"

"And they always seem to turn on you," he remarked. "Even my own suit tried to kill me at one point."

A tiny smile lit up Tony's face at the mention of the project. "It would be. I've always been fascinated by the idea of space flight combat."

"There's a big difference between a mechanical suit of armor and a Cyberman, believe me. Although now that you say that about your suit, I'm beginning to rethink our relationship."

By 'our', she meant herself and the suit, not herself and Tony, and she gave him a little grin to be sure he understood.

"You should do it. I bet it would be brilliant."

"Well, technically, the suit is 'dumber' than ever now," Tony explained. "Most of the systems that used to be a part of the suit are part of me now."

His eyes light up a bit as he starts to thing. "It wouldn't be like they show in movies or anything like that. It's an environment with no up or down. Conventional warfare and tactics don't apply."

"Then that's just fine," Tosh decided, nodding. She still probably wouldn't be sharing information like that with Ianto, or maybe even Jack, but she knew Tony well enough to trust him.

"That's true, you've got to go by an entirely different set of parameters than you'd use for your suit or that car of yours. If anyone could manage it though, it's you."

"Flatterer," Tony said, giving her a bit of a smirk. Who was supposed to keep his ego in check if Tosh kept complimenting him like that.

"But yes, it creates a whole different series of engineering and design problems too," he admitted. "That's one reason I like the vector propulsion that the suit uses so much."

Keeping his ego in check wasn't Tosh's job. He'd just have to get someone else to take care of that.

"It's not as much fun if it's easy," she remarked. "Can I see the designs when you've got them drawn up?"

"You're aright about that. I'll leave the easy stuff to the Stanford graduates," he said with a chuckle. "And of course you can. Maybe with all you know about alien tech you can give me some pointers."

"Maybe I could," Tosh agreed, looking wistful for a moment. "God, what I wouldn't give to get my hands on something big like a spaceship, though. Mostly what we get through the Rift are little things, nothing on that kind of scale."
