Lux was decorated and ready to go. It was just waiting a certain birthday girl and her friends.

When Tosh was accosted by Abby at the amusement park and dragged down to the Lux, she assumed Gren must be having a set and Abby wanted company. A more suspicious person might have wondered if there was something else going on, but Tosh was not that person.

So when she came through the door and saw the decorations and people, she looked around in confusion.

"Hi...Ianto? Is there some kind of party going on?"

Looking up from what he was doing, Ianto grinned.

"Didn't you know it's someone's birthday, today?"

"Yes, well it's-"

Tosh stopped dead in her tracks and stared at Ianto. Then another really good look around, and back to Ianto again. "It's my birthday today..." she said hesitantly.

He was still smiling.

"Is it now?" he asked, taking her arm to steer her gently further into the room, to see the rest of the guests!

"Ianto, is this party for me?"

It was pretty plain, with how Ianto was acting, and the whole coincidence of the timing, that it was for her. But Tosh hadn't had a party for her birthday in years, not like this. It was quite a shock.

"I hope the party is for you," he mused, "we got black cherry cake with whipped cream and fresh fruit, you see."

"You- Ianto, you sneak!"

She gave him a good-natured smack on the arm. "That's what the thing about the cakes was all about."

"Of course it was," Ianto said, and gave her a kiss on the cheek, "How else was I supposed to find out?"

Tosh snuck in a tight hug and returned the cheek kiss. "You didn't have to do this," she whispered. "But thank you so much."

A little sly grin.

"Who said it was me? It could have been anyone."

"No, it was you," Tosh insisted, smiling back. "I know you well enough to know that."

"Okay, it was me," Ianto admitted, "But everyone helped."

"Then I'll make sure to thank everyone," Tosh laughed. "Told you you were sneaky and mischievous."

"Only when it's for good things," he said, grinning. He was glad Tosh liked it!

Tosh loved it, and bright smile on her face very plainly showed that! "That's true, and this is..."

She bit her lip and just looked around, grinning. "Thank you."

"It's fine," he said, squeezing her arm.

Everyone says you deserve it, you know."

"Don't know about deserving it, but I can't say that I don't love it," Tosh said, laughing and blushing a little. "Look at this, there's balloons and cake and...people!"

"Of course you deserve it," Ianto replied, smiling at her again.

"Well yes. There generally tends to be balloons, people and cake at parties."

"And exactly how many parties like this do you think I've been to, Ianto," Tosh retorted, with a smile. "Am I going to sound ungrateful if I ask if there are games or music or something too? I just...I hardly know what to do with myself!"

He was grinning back, yes he was. "There'll be music later, and dancing, and if people drink enough I'm sure that it'll descent into spin the bottle and truth or dare,"

"Sounds like the perfect party!" Tosh slid her arm through his and squeezed a little, since she didn't think Ianto would appreciate being mauled with hugs all evening. "I better get a dance before Jack runs off to keep you all to himself."

She accepted the box and opened it, then smiled brightly up at him. "Oh, they're beautiful. And you know, I think will look fantastic with the new dress I just bought too. Thank you, Ianto."

Ianto pretended to look thoughtful, and nodded. "I think I can manage to dance with you."

He's picked the necklace mostly because it was dainty, and dainty just suited Tosh. "Good, I'm glad you like them."

Tosh tucked the box very carefully into her pocket where it would be safe. That necklace was definitely going to be making an appearance next time she got dressed up. She might even just make an excuse to wear something pretty to work, for that very reason.

"I do, and I think you're fabulous, and you'd best watch out because I'm going to hug you again right now." Which she did, a tight embrace that maybe held on a little longer than usual, but Tosh was feeling rather emotional.

Ianto didn't mind, it was Tosh's birthday. She deserved all the hugs she wanted, and the embrace was definitely returned.

"You do deserve it."

"Not sure I can ever do enough to deserve friends like all of you," she murmured, looking a little bit teary-eyed for just a moment. It was gone the next, though, as Tosh kissed his cheek and stepped away. "Going to talk with my guests now, but you'd better not get lost and forget you promised to dance with me, all right?"
