"And it shouldn't take much looking after. Lots of water. Put it on a ledge where it can catch the early morning sunshine but not the full heat of noon."

That would probably be the very first thing Tosh did the minute she got home from the party, in fact. Although she wrinkled her nose at Ishiah for making her do it, instead of just telling her straight out.

"I'll put it on my window sill, I think it'll get just the right light there. And lots of water, I promise. Thank you so much. And just...thank you."

He nodded with an only slightly embarrassed grace. "You might not thank me later. I told Captain Harkness the bar had a neglected karaoke machine."

Hmm. Tosh looked thoughtful for a moment, as if deciding whether karaoke was a good thing or a bad thing. Then she grinned.

"I think everyone will have fun with it. Gwen will sing for certain, and I bet she's trying to talk Ianto into it right now. Which will be impossible until he's had something to drink, most likely. And I suppose after I've had a couple I'll get coaxed into singing, and I'll look a right fool, and I don't care because it's my birthday."

"This is your cultural heritage, I expect you to be better at it thann that." He warned, teasing. "Good enough and I might book you for a regular set."

"Speaking of having a couple - they'll be on the house, of course."

"There are many other things I'd prefer to claim as my cultural heritage," Tosh laughed. "I don't think I'll scare anyone away with my voice, but don't go firing any of your real musicians just yet."

She nodded gratefully. "Thank you. Maybe I'll take you up on that soon, I might need a bit of something to get me down off the ceiling from all the excitement."

"At Peri gatherings, that's been known to happen literally."

"Are you going to fly me up and hang me by my ankles again," Tosh asked with a grin.

"After you've been drinking?" He gave her a wry look, "I think that would be ill-advised. It's a technique I usually reserve for breaking up bar fights, effective if unpleasant."

"Good point, probably best leave that for another time." Tosh made a face at the image Ishiah painted in her mind, although she had to smile at the idea of brawling drunks finding themselves being lifted in the air and removed from their fight.

Considering Ishiah's new york patrons were largely supernatural, bar fights were always colourful affairs. He maintained a strict policy of going with what worked. He noted her wince, however. "I'm sorry. With luck it's not something you'll have to witness. You, of course, maintained far more elegance, however old you were."

"Oh, it's all right, I was mostly just imagining the mess," Tosh said, with a shrug. "And I find it hard to apply the word 'elegance' to six-year-old Toshiko, but thank you. It was a lot of fun, and you were wonderful for indulging me."

"Aside from the interest in horror films and worms, I rather thought you were." He likes children. It's a secret. "Now, can I get you that first drink?"

"I was an odd child," Tosh laughed. "I think the interest in horror films might have been something from my adulthood, but I was pretty bold that way when I was small. I wasn't afraid of that sort of thing."

She'd had other fears, ones that she still struggled with, but monsters hadn't really been one of them.
