Lux was decorated and ready to go. It was just waiting a certain birthday girl and her friends.

"Uh huh, don't even try, I know better," Tosh laughed. "You can just try a little bite, I'm sure you'll at least like the fruit."

Leia was escorted to the food table and presented with a very small slice of black cherry cake, with whipped cream and fresh fruit on top, and then Tosh looked at her expectantly.

"You did end up liking it," she said, accepting the small slice and picking up a fork off of the table bravely. For a moment, she stared back at Tosh, as if asking 'what next?' but then she grinned and cut off a small piece of the cake with a generous portion of fruit and so sampled. When she was finished chewing, had swallowed, wiped her mouth with a napkin, she said, "It's bearable."

Which, of course, met that she did actually like it.

"Yes, I did. And I appreciate everything all of you have done to put this together tonight." Tosh grinned as Leia tried the cake. "So long as you aren't going to be sick," she replied solemnly.

She waved a hand at the table. "There's sushi too. Also apparently there's to be dancing later, with the possibility of me being talked into making a fool of myself by singing karaoke."

She managed another bite and the cake, though sweet, was good. "I think there's enough fruit to balance both the cake itself and its flavor." Then she laughed. "I'm not going to be sick!"

Leia nodded as Toshiko spoke, making a mental note to go back for the sushi later. "I have a feeling the combination of dancing and singing will prove to be more entertaining than the party itself."

"Probably so," Tosh agreed with a laugh. "Though Ishiah's got the bar open, and Ianto seems to think some of us won't be able to hold our liquor enough to avoid ending up playing spin the bottle or some nonsense."

"I'm surprised Jack hasn't already suggested a game like that, to be honest." Meant solely in good humor, honest!

"So am I. Probably he suggested worse, and Ianto talked him out of it." Tosh smiled, going right along with the spirit of Leia's remark. "Ianto promised he'd dance with me, though."

"I'm almost too terrified to imagine any sort of game that Jack may come up with." She set her plate down, not finished with the cake but intending to come back to it. "Will it be one of those odd, Earth dances?"

"Well, I'm afraid all I know are odd Earth dances, so I suppose it'll have to be. But probably just something like a waltz, I imagine. You know, a couples dance," Tosh answered. "Might see if I can wheedle Jack into one too."

"I know what a waltz is," she said, a little smartly though all in good fun. "I'm sure he'd love to dance with you today, Toshiko."

"Maybe. He's been a bit hard to pin down lately," Tosh said. "But I suppose if there's any time I could get a dance out of him, it'd be my birthday. You know, bet he'd dance with you too if you asked. Though then Ianto'd probably cut in. He did at Gwen's wedding."

"You should definitely take advantage of the situation. Be opportunistic." Time to finish the cake. "I would never start a dance I don't intend to see finished."

"Oh, as if I haven't already, going around getting hugs from people and making them eat cake and all," Tosh laughed. "Think I might have scandalized Caspian a bit, but hopefully he'll put it up to high spirits."

"Scandalized Caspian?" Oh, now she was interested.

"Oh, it's nothing that bad! I just kissed his cheek. Which I will admit straight off is not something I usually do to even people I know well, but then I don't usually have people kissing my hand either, so he started it," Tosh protested. "I just think he was a little shocked. Although he hid it pretty well."

"I love your methods of deduction and reasoning," said Leia, not fighting the laughter that came easily and naturally.

Tosh laughed as well. "They may be a little befuddled by all the excitement at the moment," she admitted. "And you know, there's that thing where it's people I'm trying to reason out, and people will insist on being unpredictable."

"When have people ever insisted on being anything but unpredictable?"

"Which is why I understand machines so much better," Tosh replied. "He brought me larkspurs. And Abby's friend Gren brought me flowers too."

"I'm still looking for the perfect thing for you," Leia pointed out, not feeling obligated but wanting to let Tosh know either way.

"Leia, that wasn't a hint for more presents!" Tosh exclaimed. "I only mentioned because of the flowers! Which I, you know, sort of really like getting."

Leia laughed, reaching over to grasp Tosh's upper arm and give it a friendly squeeze. "I know. I only felt like informing you. What sort of flowers?"

Tosh pulled a face at Leia that was the adult equivalent at sticking out her tongue in response to the laughter, then pointed out the flowers ~~of unknown description~~ that Gren had brought. "Those are from Abby's friend, he's a musician here. The larkspurs are from Caspian, as I mentioned, and the tiny iris in the bowl is from Ishiah. I've got to look up the meaning behind that when I get a chance."

"They're all very beautiful," Leia said with admiration, looking at each of them in turn. "I'm glad there are so many things about all of this that you've enjoyed."

Taking a moment to enjoy the scent of the flowers again -- and reminding herself she really should spend more time in the hothouse -- Tosh nodded at Leia, beaming. "Like I told Luke, this is one evening I am never going to forget."
