Log; Ongoing

When; July 6th, near dusk
Rating; PG-13
Characters; Harry Dresden ([profile] dresden4hire ), Ivy ([personal profile] archivy ), Nicodemus ([profile] eternalnic ), Alucard ([personal profile] tinyvampiregod ), the Major ([profile] warconductor ), and who knows who else shows up to watch and wants to log.
Summary; It's time for the duel between Harry and Nicodemus!
Log;
Harry arrived at the appointed meeting place just a bit early. He wasn't as jittery as he might be, or maybe he should be, considering who he was dueling. Just because Harry threw insults at Nic and was willing to face him didn't mean the Denarian still didn't scare the bajeebus out of him.

Dressed in jeans, a "Touched by an Angel" t-shirt, and running shoes Harry was ready for his duel. He had his staff and blasting rod as well, but he had a feeling the running shoes were the most important part of the ensemble.  Running was a very integral part to being a wizard.  That and waiting, which was all Harry could do for the moment.

[ooc: Posting order will be Harry, Ivy, then Nic?  Alucard and Major, you can jump in where/whenever you want?  IDK.]

The Archive was present already when Harry arrived, having come to the site of the duel earlier to scope out and secure the area. Auron was with her already, hovering at the edge of the clearing.

The Archive - and there was no trace of Ivy, the little girl who liked to pet kittens or draw with her crayons, left at all - was wearing a grey cape, her straight blonde hair tied back in two braids so that it wouldn't get in the way. She hadn't brought any equipment to the clearing, and she didn't expect to need anything. She had her magic and her knowledge.

Nicodemus took his time, arriving precisely at dusk, as the arrangement called for. He walked into the cleared and his eyes narrowed at the sight of Dresden's shirt. He would take pleasure in this duel, and he was ready...just in case.

He nodded to the Archive, pleased at how uncomfortable she must feel, even if she was hiding it, and then turned to the Wizard and waited.

The Archive nodded at both Harry and Nicodemus when they arrived, waiting another minute for them to settle before she stepped into the middle of the clearing.

She held out one hand in front of her and a small ball of light appeared, hovering just above her palm. She stepped back and the ball of light remained at it's place.

"The contestants, Harry Dresden and Nicodemus, will face each other standing there and there," she pointed at the respective places, each about five steps from the ball of light. "Seconds will observe from further away." Again, she gestured to indicate the places where Alucard and the Major should stand. "All others must step back behind the marked line."

Even though she didn't raise her voice, it carried easily over the clearing as she spoke.

"The contestants will try to move the ball of energy with their will towards the other. Whomever it touches first loses. Should one of you cheat, your seconds or one of the spectators interfere, the duel will be terminated."

"Anything you would like saying before we begin?"

The airship flew low overhead, the droning of the engines audible long before the Swastika-emblazoned zeppelin was visible. It glided gracefully down as it touched down in the clearing, inadvertently crushing some of the threes as its massive bulk finally came to rest.

A ramp folded down, reaching halfway to the ground before extending out to the dirt, red carpeted with gold trim. Hand rails sprung up, and the Major walked down, the Captain not far from his side. He seemed to favor one side, still growing used to the repaired and possibly upgraded cybernetics in his leg. Red eyes peered from within the darkness, and if you listened hard enough, you could hear the screams and unearthly groans from within.

His grin, a half smile that never seemed to leave his face, didn't falter as he took his place behind the marked line.

"I will enjoy this Wizard. You have interfered in my business for the last time."

Nicodemus was confident. Why shouldn't he be. He was over 2,000 years old and had won this dual several times, with the stakes much higher than they were now. And if things did, in some off chance, go poorly, he would be ready.

For those not part of the duel proper that are coming to watch, we have already worked out how certain events are going to run (specifically stuff occuring at the end of the duel) and would appreciate an IM or email from you if you wish to join in the...festivities :P. Just to make sure we don't screw this up :).

Other than that feel free to be punt gallery all you want!

So should the punt gallery start an observation thread, or how should we go about posting?

Re: OOC

My personal thought would be to feel free to throw in posts wherever, the "core" group would then continue in their one thread with the action since, in theory, they won't be interacting much with those outside the crowd? But that's just my take :P

I'll start a new thread so any other observers can talk without itnerrupting the battle?

sounds like that's what harry-mun was thinking, so works out great :P perhaps quoting the 'battle thread' at certain points to create a timeline?

Don't you know? All sense of grammar and spelling goes out the window in summer. It's all that sun.

Abby was honestly rather interested to see how this duel would progress. He had never actually seen any 'magical' duels, per say, unless they were angelic, and even then, it was mostly chucking fire and wind back and forth, with the occasional brimstone or ice thrown in there. This would certainly be a treat.

He made sure to look mildly concerned over the whole ordeal, rosary held in one hand, fingers rubbing slowly over well-worn beads, the black cross dangling against the back of his hand. His other arm was crossed over his own waist, hand resting on his opposite hip, stance mostly casual, but with the typical bit of tension one has when watching a duel. Though it wasn't exactly cool out, he was still dressed in a full priest's attire--the heat didn't compare much to the fires of hell, so it was rather cool for his own normal body temperature.

He huffed, once, blue eyes trained on the two duelists and the little girl accompanying them.

After a hike through the woods that would have been more interesting had she not been worried about Harry, Molly arrived at the scene, finding a tree to sit under the shade of and watch the duel.

It wasn't that she lacked faith in her mentor, she simply didn't know how a human will would stack up against that of a demon thrall. Thinking about it, one could consider the human itself wouldn't have much of a will on their own, but coupled with the demon? Bad news, in her opinion.

The giant Nazi zepplin wasn't helping either. Trust a demonthrall to have help from freaking Nazis. That and the sounds coming from that ship were raising the hair on the back of her neck.

Clow stood placidly under a tree near the back of the crowd of observers - being tall had its advantages. Unlike Abby, he didn't bother too much with making appearances, and so his relaxed and casual posture would have looked quite suspicious if many people had been in a position to see him. His attention, however, was raptly trained on the duelists, the young girl, and the ball of light.

This was Nicodemus' duel, he recalled, narrowing his eyes slightly as he looked on the man. Clow didn't know Nic to be the sort to take well to a loss and therefore suspected that Nicodemus would win by any means necessary - that or his loss would come with consequences for Harry.

The Major acting as Nic's second did not escape the magician's notice, either.

The fight was...interesting, to say the least. Abby's brow furrowed further, his hand tightening on the rosary as he watched the duel progress, outwardly worried, inwardly facinated.

"I knew he'd cheat," Clow muttered from the back of the small crowd as what was supposed to be a duel broke out into an all-out fight. It was a statement of the obvious, really, but it was all Clow could do to resist getting involved as he frowned, feigning boredom, and leaned against the the tree behind him. His arms folded across his chest and the expression on his face gave him the appearance of a bratty five-year-old who didn't get picked for the football team - and to be honest, that would probably have described his attitude at the moment, as well.

Blasted rules, always getting in the way of his fun...

Abby had already backed quite a bit further away from the ensuing fight, blinking as his eyes landed on Clow, turning slightly at the soft words.

"You knew?" He asked, looking a little confused. "How did you suspect that?"
