Abby had helped her find a dress and suitable, but comfortable, shoes. Not that any of that made her any less nervous. She really had no idea what to expect or how things would go, but she was ready to give it a try.

"I'm not," she said quietly, looking away. "I did lots of bad things. Lots of things that aren't good or right."

He sighed. "You're not the first, Rain. I know plenty of people who have."

"You don't mind?"

"Why would I? I don't know what you've done and I've probably seen people do worse in my own world," he said.

"Okay," she said softly. "Thank you."

He smiled. "You're welcome."

She smiled and let herself relax into his arms again. "This dancing is really nice."

"I knew you'd like it."

"How did you know me so well?" she said wonderingly, "When I had no idea?"

"If you didn't like it," he said, "you'd be the first woman I've ever danced with to think that."

She laughed. "So if I danced with someone else I might not like it at all?"

He grinned down at her. "You never know."

"I don't think I could relax enough with just anyone," she said thoughtfully. "I trust you."

His smile softened. "Good. I'm glad you do."

"Mmmm..." Her eyes were closed again. "Can we dance all night?"

"When this place closes, I'll take you somewhere else if you want. I don't mind dancing the rest of the night away." It wouldn't be his first time doing so.

"I just don't want this night to end," she whispered. "I may never have anything like this again."

"I'll take you again sometime," he said softly. "I promise."

She reached up to touch the side of his face gently. "You're so kind to me."

He shrugged a little. "I just thought you deserved it."

Rain looked confused. "Deserved it? Why?"

He frowned. "Why wouldn't you?"

"Because, because..." she struggled to find the right words. "Because I'm just a nobody. Nothing special. I'm just Rain."

"That's what I want to me. More than anything. Just Mat. A nobody who is nothing special." His expression was serious.

"But you are special," she said softly, looking a little confused. "Men... You're kind and gentle. Maybe you're just Mat, but you're special. To me, at least."
