Log, ongoing;

When; Very late Thursday
Rating; PG-13
Characters; Jack Harkness ([livejournal.com profile] handsomejack), Kyle Brooks ([livejournal.com profile] justashow), Martha Jones ([livejournal.com profile] miss_jones), The Doctor ([livejournal.com profile] sciencegeekchic), Gwen Cooper Williams ([livejournal.com profile] protect_them) and Ianto Jones ([livejournal.com profile] king_coffee).
Summary; Kyle's at the clinic with Jack, and Ianto's on his way with Gwen. With an odd form of help from The Doctor, Martha needs to make an antidote.
Log;

Once he was out of Underground, Ianto made a phone call to Kyle's number, hoping the man would pick up. It wasn't easy supporting Gwen at the same time, but he managed as he hurried towards Martha's clinic, with both the snake and Gwen in tow.

Kyle was sitting at Jack's bedside, trying not to give into the urge to get up and pace. He knew he'd just be in the way and projecting worry wasn't what Jack needed right now.

Even if the man was unconscious.

His phone rang and he answered it immediately, hoping it might be Ianto with news that he'd found whatever had bit Jack.

"Brooks here."

[identity profile] justashow.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Kyle frowned when he heard about Gwen, but at least they had the snake and a possibility of getting an antidote. If time didn't run out.

"Martha Jone's clinic," he said into the phone. "You'd better hurry. Jack went unconscious twenty minutes ago. I think he was delirious before then. He...he kept asking for the doctor."

As delightful as unconsciousness was, Jack's stubbornness, immortal immune system stubbornness pushed him back up towards consciousness.

Awareness came back as sharp, pains and the struggle to breath, neither of which were a great deal of fun and Jack had to chuff inwardly as he cursed just how annoying poison could be. Pain hazed eyes blinked opened, staring at the ceiling without comprehension for a long moment.

"Where..." he whispered weakly, barely aware that he'd spoken outloud.

[identity profile] justashow.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Kyle hovered into Jack's line of sight, taking his hand and squeezing, unsure just how much the other man was aware of right now.

"Shhh, it's okay," he soothed. "You're at the clinic. Ianto's on his way, he found the snake."

Kyle decided he'd better not mention about Gwen getting poisoned too.

[identity profile] handsomejack.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Though his grip was weaker than before, Jack still closed his fingers around Kyle's.

Clinic ... okay, good that explained why the ceiling didn't look familiar.

Jack nodded slightly, indicating he'd heard what Kyle had said about Ianto. If his own thoughts were so muddled with pain and confusion, he probably would have caught the fact that Kyle hadn't included Gwen in that statement.

[identity profile] justashow.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"I called for the Doctor too," Kyle said, using his other hand to smooth Jack's sweat-damp hair back. "He said he's coming to help."

And Kyle didn't know what kind of help the Doctor would be, but from the stories he'd heard, he didn't doubt that the man could do something about all this. Or at the very least, he'd be a comfort for Jack.

all-purpose martha-thread, guys, forgive the slowness :|

[identity profile] rig.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
All in all? It could have been worse. For example, Ianto could have been bitten too. Daleks could have fallen from the sky. Martha herself could have walked into a convenient manhole, and so on. Yes, things could be worse.

With a vaguely annoyed exhale, she paused outside of the room they'd all but tossed Jack into, unceremoniously so. While Martha couldn't really account for his immortality factor, she could assess what was a given, and she had, already having set about procuring an antidote--or contacting someone who could.

"What timing," she muttered, leaning against the wall, folding her arms across her chest. Just a moment to breathe, she thought a bit sourly. She was fond of these people, but really, what were they all up to? And then there was the matter of Tosh.

Perhaps she should lay out a chart that told them 'this is a bad idea' and 'this, this is less bad but still probably going to get you in a hell of a lot of trouble as well' and so on down the line. Perhaps. But then, they probably wouldn't pay it any mind, and at that she smiled in spite of it all. That would be very them.

I'm mostly back myself!

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure enough, Gwen was right behind him, more than a little out of breath. She was feeling the bite now, but it still wasn't anything like what had been happening to Jack.

"It's not too bad at all."

[identity profile] rig.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
At Ianto's words, Martha had nodded, and disappeared, only to reappear with the requested kit, pausing at the door again to lean in and look at Jack. Not good, but then again, he was immortal wasn't he? She could hardly make heads or tails of it.

"I see," Martha replied as if to say: not dead doesn't mean good. Torchwood standards, she sighed inwardly. These people constantly put themselves in danger and don't think about it as danger unless they're dying, she frowned, which wasn't entirely fair of her, having been in similar working situations, but the good doctor was inclined to being a bit irritated, as the irritation stemmed from genuine concern. Still, she tried to keep it in check.

"Take this room," she nodded at Gwen and then to the room right next to Jack's. "Ianto, can you take care of this?" she asked, offering the kit to him with one hand, taking the snake with the other. "I'd like to get this under investigation right away."

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Some time later, Gwen's dark head peered through the door, eyes falling on Jack before she glanced at Kyle and Ianto.

"... how is he?"

She didn't want to disturb them even though she was very worried about Jack. If she wasn't, she wouldn't be tempting Martha's wrath by getting up and about too soon.

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
She didn't miss the look but her concern for Jack overrode how tired she still felt. On quiet feet, she edged into the room and settled in one of the chairs, sighing under her breath. The bite had hurt her, yes, but nowhere nearly as bad as Jack. How tired she was was still written in the dull gleam of her eyes.

"I couldn't sleep 'till I checked on him."

Gwen visits too!

"Promise you'll rest after," Kyle said, quietly.

Gwen was an adult and he couldn't order her back to bed like he might have done with Dawn, but he still thought that Jack would take it badly later if Kyle'd let one of his team get sicker due to lack of rest.

Enter: <i>The Doctor.

[identity profile] sciencegeekchic.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor entered the clinic at a brisk pace and immediately started asking questions. This was Jack, after all, and the Doctor would rather he didn't die.

"Alright, where is he?" the Doctor asked, looking around. "And what happened. Can't stay out of trouble for long, can he? Welll, good thing I'm here. Doctor Jones and I will have him just fine in no time. Ohh, that kind of rhyme's, doesn't it? Just fine in no time."

Re: Enter: The Doctor.

[identity profile] sciencegeekchic.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ianto!" the Doctor cried, stepping waving at the man as he pressed forward.

"What's Jack gotten himself up to now?" he asked, whipping out his glasses and getting ready to do some sort of diagnosis. Whatever it was, if it made Jack sick it would be interesting.

Post antidote action

What Jack liked most about the antidote was the fact that he could once again breath without it feeling like he was sucking air in through a wet burlap sack. His joints still ached and honestly, he had not desire to be jumping up out of the clinic bed any time soon, not that he could but his head was finally clear of the pain induced fuzziness.

Taking a deep breath -aaahhh air- he opened his eyes and almost immediately began to look for Kyle and hopefully Ianto. He'd been aware that Kyle had stayed beside him almost through the entire ordeal and knew that Ianto had been on point with Gwen in finding the snake. His team, doing what they did best, tracking down the strange and useful!

"'Kyle? Ianto?" Oi, going to need some water on that throat!

[identity profile] justashow.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Kyle had been watching nervously as the antidote was administered. When Jack took a deep breath, some of the restriction in Kyle's own chest lifted and he nearly fell over with the relief of it.

Of course, he couldn't yet, because they weren't entirely through the woods and besides, Jack was asking for him.

His words had seemed to have flown out of his head though, so instead of making some soothing reply he crouched awkwardly and silently by Jack's bedside and took his hand.

A long while later, after Gwen was sure Ianto had dragged Kyle off for some well deserved rest, she dared to peek in on Jack. Her lips curled into a smile when she saw him looking quite a bit better than the last time she'd seen him.

[identity profile] handsomejack.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Jack was resting, though it was possible that he'd fight sleep until Ianto and or Kyle returned. He was a stubborn bastard that way.

Seeing Gwen in the doorway he gave her a soft smile and waved her to come in.

"Hey there."

Gwen says hay Jack

[identity profile] protect-them.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
As quietly as she could, she moved to his side and reached out to brush some hair from his forehead.

"Feeling a bit more yourself?"
