Summary; Mat should have been resting. Instead, he went for a walk into the City...
Log; His leg was hurting.

That was his very first thought as he finally stepped into the City limits. He should have stayed at Rain's place resting. However, he was tired of staying in one place. Yes, he'd been brought here last night (and Tony's medical team had ambushed him) but he still wanted to get places by his own power. Without anyone helping.

Which was why he now was limping badly as he stepped into the square. His hat hiding his face as he studed the ground he walked on. Maybe he should've brought his quarterstaff. At least then he'd have something to lean on.

He never claimed to be the most intelligent of people. No matter what his past was.

Taking one bad step, Mat winced and moved to a nearby wall to lean against it.

Mat glared at him. "You're doing it again."

"You apparently worry when I don't," Clow countered.

"You're so bloody irritating." Mat left out the part about how that was so like a woman. Instead he sighed and became serious. "Have you ever hear of the Daughter of the Nine Moons?"

Clow laughs off being called irritating, but who knows how he'd react to being compared to a woman? "No, I'm afraid I haven't. She's someone from your world, I take it?"

A moment of hesitation then he nodded. "I had a prophecy told to me once. I'm supposed to get married to her. I've never even met the bloody woman."

"Those things can be wrong, you know," Clow was quick to observe. "And it's possible that you will meet her, eventually."

"Does that mean the part about me giving up my life to save the Light could be wrong too?" Mat studied the ground as he walked.

"It's possible." Clow replied as neutrally as possible, but he was also looking at the ground.

"Life was easier when I was a bloody lazy farmer and nothing more." Mat glared at the ground.

Clow only chuckles a bit half-heartedly in response. "I'm sure that everyone who has ever had to save the world sympathizes with you."

Mat laughed and shifted his weight a little. "I never thought anyone would trust me with saving them. Now I have to be in charge on an army."

"That must be overwhelming," Clow remarked, sympathetically. He'd be overwhelmed, that's for certain.

"It was my own bloody fault. I could have let them face the Aiel on their own." No, he couldn't have. Mat shook his head.

"But you didn't," Clow is quick to point out. Much as he tries not to look like it, Mat's really a kind person somewhere under there.

"No. I didn't." He frowned and looked at Clow. Mat didn't know why he was going to ask this but... "Do you think I'm a good person?"

"Yes, of course." Clow gave Mat a meaningful if slightly confused look. "Why?"

"I just question it sometimes." Mat shrugged as he pointed ahead of them. "We're almost there."

"You're kind to your friends; that's really the only definition of 'good' I have." What else was there, really?

He nodded, acknowledging the proximity to the house.

He couldn't help himself. Mat started laughing so hard he had to stop and lean on Clow's shoulder. It was so simple. So bloody simple.

"It can't be that funny, can it?" said a confused Clow as he held Mat steady and allowed himself to be furniture.

"Burn it all, it is. So bloody, flaming simple," Mat replied as he caught his breath.

"Yet you'd be surprised how many people don't qualify."

Taking a deep breath, he nodded. "Light if that isn't true then nothing is."
