Interpretation not lost but not given either, because Hari simply heard what he said and computed it as Something People Are Supposed to Say, she did mentally mark the smile that went with it, a little curious about this person. Typically she just wasn't, and that was that, her interests being found more in histories of places, stories, and one would argue people are at the heart of all good stories, but she doubted honestly that one could get to know a person at any great length at a dance or ball, even multiple ones.

"At this stage I doubt they would be able to accommodate you entirely," she admitted wryly, a flicker of an amused gaze present and gone as quick as it came. "You might not have to be concerned until the start of the new term, that is," a clarification. "I settled in well enough," she surprised herself by saying, not given to talking about herself usually, at all. Perhaps it was an effort to offer reassurance, though, peering up at him, she had a feeling he may be the last person who needed reassuring about much of anything.

She left out the part about how she would be leaving again soon, thinking it unimportant, because it was just normal for her at this point, a constant state of moving from place to place. Also, just being acquainted, it seemed like it might be too much information, and this was just a waltz when one got down to it, however well danced and bordered by well bred courtesy.

Talking with Harry was a challenge for Chuck. He usually had very little problems in reading people. Reading between the lines, understanding things that weren't spoken at all. But Harry... She was saying little, her face a perfect polite mask. For a moment he wondered if she accepted his offer to dance just because it was a polite thing to do.

On one hand he felt tempted to try just a little bit harder, charm her a little bit more. Even if just to prove to her and to himself that he could. There was the curiosity bit as well. To see how she would look like with all that control of hers lost...
But then again, he had other plans for tonight. Plans that didn't require extra work or effort to accomplish.
Maybe he should just befriend her and see how things develop in the future. They could develop quite nicely since his GossipGirl reputation didn't even exist here.

"That's good to hear. I know it's difficult to be a transfer. I hope you managed to find friends easily," he said with a smile.

Polite mask in place, it disappeared for a moment at the mention of friends, not to fall, but rather to smile a bit more widely, a kind of grin that spoke volumes more than her words. Friends. Really? No. She hadn't given them any thought upon arriving and gave them none now that her departure loomed before her. Kate was perhaps the closest thing to a friend, and even then, Hari kept her distance. It wasn't that she didn't like people, but mostly that she knew it was a bit fruitless, to form bonds and then disappear from them like weather passing through. Again, as with all her truer expressions, this one was all of a second or two present, but anyone paying attention, anyone as close in proximity as Chuck for example, would likely have caught the short lived change.

Not one to be made a pity case or something even vaguely like that, she wasn't about to share much of any of her thought process on the matter, but her tone was carefully polite again when she did speak, eyes alert and the tiny upward curve of her lips expressing remnants of a dry sense of humor that said kind of you to ask but not much else. As for accepting his offer to dance, well, it was polite, and that was the first reason for it, but if it would have been any consolation to him, she could have just as well made a polite excuse to say no.

"Courses are easy to catch up in and people are more helpful than they give themselves credit for," she replied eventually, which was to say that plenty of classmates helped with notes and providing extra coursework information, making it a simple matter to settle herself academically. The fact that she did not address the social aspect at all this time was, in its own way, rather telling of course, but she moved with growing confidence to the three four time measured out in one two and three counts--steps, turns, and imperceptible other nuances that came parceled with things such as dance by the very nature. A loner? She might be, but did she have a problem with it? Not in the least, and let him have no confusion on that.

He smiled, filing away the information she didn't give him. Noting at the same time that her body language. He would definitely like to see her without that constant censorship she put on herself.

"That's reassuring," he said and hesitated visibly. "Though I do hope that in between the classes and the studying, you'll find some time for other activities and allow me to get to know you. I wouldn't want to give up any possible friends. And I hope this word will describe the relationship between us soon enough."

This was a whole new level of seduction on his part. BUt he was looking forward to see if it worked. For future reference.

The thing, or one of the things--this might be the more accurate way to phrase it--about Hari and the social scene was that she just was not that much a part of it, even where she was from where she attended every dance and every function, at the behest of her guardians Lady Amelia and Sir Charles. As many as she attended, her determination to not stand out won with a striking consistency, to the point where some people who saw her more often like the two most sought after girls would joke and say she was practicing magic to hide herself. That was silly of course, but the comparison did it justice.

Most people ended up setting themselves before the altars of Beth or her sister, the Peterson girls, both lovely, charming, and transparent to a lack of fault, rather the opposite of Hari in that sense who preferred to keep things closer to the vest, in a sense. She had no idea she had somehow earned a few of her own admirers and having never been approached by anyone that she knew of out of anything but a favor to her brother to make his sister feel less like the odd one out, this form of 'seduction' as Chuck would put it was, for better or worse, entirely lost on her.

That did not mean it seemed completely genuine, however, and she took her time in answering, just moving in time as the waltz neared its end and eventually faded out into something else she didn't recognize. As a result, she stopped, which ended up with her just standing there, hand still on his shoulder, other hand in his.

"I do other things besides classwork," she tilted her head slightly. Fencing. Taking random walks to nowhere. That sort of thing, but they didn't make for a very convincing list, so she didn't bother. "But I will keep that in mind," and it wasn't condescending, only an attempt to somehow candidly convey that she was wary in general of people, even nice ones, at first. There was also the fact that she had gotten so used to being on her own at this point that the thought of a friend was a bit alien to her, but even she knew that was a little absurd, so she locked that truth away for now.

He smiled. That would have to do for now. "That's all I'm asking," he assured her and escorted her off the dancefloor. "And I hope you enjoyed out little time together," he said and raised her hand to his lips. Ever the gentleman, GossipGirl would have a blast.
