Bobby's genuinely pleased. Even if they're not his students, he's always proud of the kids who graduate, regardless of what they're graduating from.

"Congratulations. Will you continue onto Graduate Studies?"

A bit of a frown passed quickly over her face, but she smiled. quickly. "Oh yes. Believe me, I'm not going to waste my talent."

"Good for you."

Making a snap decision, he offers her his hand. "That calls for a celebratory dance, if you don't mind making an old man look good."

She laughed and took his hand. "I'd be happy to dance with you."

He spins her in a small circle before leading her to the dance floor. He's no Astaire, but he's been to enough of these things to know how they work.

Taking up the beat perfectly, he continues the conversation, "Sorry, I didn't introduce myself, name's Bobby Singer."

"You're a fine dancer, is what you are, Bobby Singer," Rain said with a grin as she matched his steps.

"Helps to have a lovely partner, Rain. Besides, my wife would have never of married me if I couldn't get her around a dance floor without embarassing her."

Re: open

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Is your wife here?" Rain asked. "I'm surprised she's not monopolizing you."

Re: open

With a soft smile he gently corrected the young woman. No sense making her feel bad about things that happened years ago.

"No, miss, my wife passed quite a few years ago. But were she here she wouldn't have begrudged me a single dance with a lovely lady - so long as she got the last one, and I was the one who took her home."

"Oh, Bobby," Rain said, pausing for a moment in the dance. "I'm so sorry."

Her eyes showed her empathy. "Well, I'm honored to dance with you."

"The honor's mine."

He smiles to show he's not upset with her in the least, and changes the subject, "Now, what's a lovely girl like you study?"

Re: open

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Probably not what you'd expect," she admitted. "Advanced engineering, mostly. I'm pretty talented if I do say so myself. And since my professors seem to agree with that assessment, I'm pretty lucky."

Re: open

[identity profile] 71-chevelle.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Wasn't expecting anything, my wife taught physics and I know better than to make assumptions about pretty girls. I am impressed, though - I hear the School of Engineering is brutal."

Re: open

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
She laughed. "Oh, it can be, but when I set my mind to something I give it my all."

Re: open

[identity profile] 71-chevelle.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Returning the laugh, Bobby gave the young woman another spin.

"I like to hear that - I hope you give 'em hell, Rain."

Re: open

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, believe me, I do, Bobby," she said with an impish grin. "The professors learned quickly enough that I'm no shrinking violet!"

Re: open

[identity profile] 71-chevelle.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
No she certainly wasn't Bobby mused as he continued to lead her around the dance floor.

"Now why isn't there some attractive young man fawning over your every word? You can't possibly convince me you came here alone."

Re: open

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, he's around somewhere," Rain said easily. "He promised dances to a couple of people. But you can be sure he's going home with me."

Bobby laughs at the comment, sounds like that young might be in for a few surprises when he gets his lady home.

"Good for you - don't give those other ladies a chance."

Some very nice surprises indeed.

"Oh, trust me," she said with a grin. "I hold onto what's mine. Not that he's mine other than for tonight, but still."

Re: open

[identity profile] 71-chevelle.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Well in that case I'll have to be happy you're mine for the moment."

Re: open

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
She smiled at him. "That's one of the sweetest things anyone's said to me in a long time."

Re: open

[identity profile] 71-chevelle.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Wasn't that a shame.

"When I was a young man, so very long ago, men were actually taught manners and how to treat a lady. And you, dear girl, are a Lady."

Re: open

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
God, that touched her heart.

"Careful, Bobby, or I'll be throwing over poor Chuck and following you home instead."

Re: open

[identity profile] 71-chevelle.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
There's a wistful expression on his face when he replies, "I may talk a good game, but I stepped off that field a long time ago."

He broadens his smile and adds, "Still, nice to know I can charm a lovely girl like yourself when the mood strikes."
