Blair reached up to his arm, feeling the muscle underneath. They could keep at this game of furtive compliments and she was sure she would have to resort to no lies to come up with retorts. She smiled at the light kiss, leaning more into him in reply.

Her eyes had brightened at the sight of the infamous blue box. She practically squealed when he opened it up to reveal a diamond bracelet, reaching to trace the feeling of it under her fingers but retracting her hand as if she were a kid and the box was a cookie jar. "Oh my god, Arthur, I can't take this." Surprisingly enough, she was being genuine. They had only known each other for two months at most, and a diamond bracelet was, at the risk of understating, expensive.

Arthur half expected the refusal from Blair. He knew she liked things like this but she was a very practical person about things. Still, he wanted her to have it and he could be just as stubborn as she could.

"Come on, look at it," he insisted. "It's just going to be depressed if it has to settle for being on the wrist of anyone less. At the very least wear it tonight, it's not like I can take it back right this moment anyways."

"Arthur," she said, as if she was scolding him in turn. She was trying so hard to suppress a bright smile, but she made a rather unconvincing frown at him. "I refuse to be bought by diamonds."

Then, after holding back the grin for the few seconds she could manage, she broke into a giggle, definitely happy at the present. "You know I'm yours regardless, right?" While it was a plus that he was so filthy rich, and so cute, and so awesome at any sport and so wanted by all the other girls Blair really did like him. Sure, it was probably all the superficial things that drew her interest, but she could say with confidence now that they matter less than the person she now knew and cared about.

Blair took his hand and gave it a squeeze. "Would you put it on me?"

Arthur was relieved to see the smile, mostly because if she had continued to refuse then Blair was not the girl he thought she was. Not that she was shallow or could be bought but Blair Waldorf liked the finer things in life. Which was appropriate because she was one of the finer things in life.

"Of course," he said, taking the bracelet out of the box and draping it over her wrist before clasping it shut. It fit perfectly.

"Not that that's over with, would you like to dance?" he asked.

Blair giggled at the sight of the diamond bracelet on her wrist. It looked that much more beautiful when seen up close. Another squeal and a "Thank you". She stood on her tiptoes to give him a peck on the lips.

At the request, she took his hand in hers. "Anything for you, Sire." She made a small curtsy.

Arthur was pleased at the reaction of the bracelet, he liked making Blair happy and the giggle was absolutely adorable. He liked it whenever she broke that mask of serenity at something he did.

"Just a dance," he said. "It's all I've been thinking about for a while now."

[identity profile] miss-waldorf.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
She smiled up at him, leading --or more like dragging-- him to the dance floor.

"I've been practicing," she said, with Rosella usually. She was quite eager to show him how well she could do it after the hours of she spent. She wanted to be someone presentable enough for the likes of him, but she did not particularly want him to know how much effort she put into this. "Just to polish my steps."

[identity profile] thefutureking.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
That made Arthur wish that perhaps he had spent a bit more time practicing, although he had been to enough balls and formals because of his father that he was more than versed in dancing. Still, it meant a lot that she would do that for him.

"I'm going to be honest," he told her as she stopped and he stepped forward to put his arm around her waist and take hold of her hand. "I might be a bit out of step due to my beautifully distracting partner."

[identity profile] miss-waldorf.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Well," Blair had a coy smile on her lips, and her eyes locked on Arthur's. "As long as that doesn't mean you stop dancing with me." She hoped that all those hours of practicing have made dancing automatic for her. She could not imagine having to think about steps when she was already so busy with thinking about those blue eyes.

It was very merciful of the musicians to end the cheerful waltz right then and switching to a slower tune. There was less chance of stepping on each other's feet this way. She moved closer to him, close enough to rest her head on his chest. Blair could just stay here forever.

[identity profile] thefutureking.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
When the song changed to a slower one he took advantage of it and pulled her a little bit closer, enjoying the feeling of her head laying on his chest. He liked that feeling and couldn't deny that he wouldn't mind staying like this for a very long night.

"I'll dance with you as long as you like," he promised her as they moved around the floor. Between Blair's practicing and Arthur's lack of it, they seemed to be very evenly matched in their dancing abilities. "I couldn't have a better partner for it."

Blair smiled to herself, content with the feeling of being with him. High school, as well as real life, was a dog eat dog world. You could phrase it differently, or you could feign apathy over it, but the fact still stood. You either had the teeth or you had the bite marks. She could fight for herself, most of the time, but she did it only because she had to. It was tiring. But there was no more need for defenses with him, he would never mean to hurt her.

"I like you because--" She started, then replayed the words in her mouth to make sure it was what she meant. "Because you treat me like something precious."

[identity profile] thefutureking.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Arthur had been trained by his father ever since he was a boy to be looking towards the future. Everything about his life had been about an ultimate goal and working towards that. Everything was about that goal, high school was just another stop along the way. Blair though was something that was entirely just... enjoyable.

"I like you because you are something precious," he said, moving his hand from her back for just a moment to tilt her chin up so that she was looking in his eyes as he spoke.

[identity profile] miss-waldorf.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Blair was definitely blushing, and trying hard not to grin like a maniac.

For all her tough exterior, she was a romantic of the purest kind. If it would amount to a Prince Charming, she really would grow her hair to ridiculous lengths and make her dad lock her up in a tall tower. Or get a cute little balcony and a vial of poison, whichever would work better. Blair could be acting like the biggest tyrant since Alexander the Great most of the time, but she would melt into a puddle of goo if you treat her like a delicate princess.

She tilted her head to give him a slow kiss on the lips.

[identity profile] thefutureking.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
While Arthur wasn't exactly unromantic, he wouldn't have considered himself a romantic either. But he was good at making people happy when he wanted to be and when there wasn't any front to put up. The thing about Blair was that as far as Arthur was concerned she was a delicate princess.

He leaned forward and gently kissed her back, holding her close to him, almost protectively. It felt very right to Arthur.

Blair had always known she deserved this.

She has had times when she doubted that fairytale romances existed, but deep down she knew they did and that she would get her turn one day. Funny how fate decided to turn in her favor when she least expected it. When the kiss ended, she returned to resting her head against him.

She shifted the hand he held, intertwining their fingers. It has all clicked into place.

Arthur danced with her in silence until the song ended, just enjoying having her so close to him and being in his arms. Really, it wasn't the sort of thing that you'd expect to happen, finding someone like Blair when she was on a different continent and went to a different school. Arthur knew they were very lucky to have found each other.

"I can't even begin to imagine what I did to deserve you," he told her once the dance ended. "But I'm very glad that I did it."
