Her eyes had brightened at the sight of the infamous blue box. She practically squealed when he opened it up to reveal a diamond bracelet, reaching to trace the feeling of it under her fingers but retracting her hand as if she were a kid and the box was a cookie jar. "Oh my god, Arthur, I can't take this." Surprisingly enough, she was being genuine. They had only known each other for two months at most, and a diamond bracelet was, at the risk of understating, expensive.

"Come on, look at it," he insisted. "It's just going to be depressed if it has to settle for being on the wrist of anyone less. At the very least wear it tonight, it's not like I can take it back right this moment anyways."

Then, after holding back the grin for the few seconds she could manage, she broke into a giggle, definitely happy at the present. "You know I'm yours regardless, right?" While it was a plus that he was so filthy rich,
and so cute, and so awesome at any sport and so wanted by all the other girlsBlair really did like him. Sure, it was probably all the superficial things that drew her interest, but she could say with confidence now that they matter less than the person she now knew and cared about.Blair took his hand and gave it a squeeze. "Would you put it on me?"

"Of course," he said, taking the bracelet out of the box and draping it over her wrist before clasping it shut. It fit perfectly.
"Not that that's over with, would you like to dance?" he asked.
no subject
At the request, she took his hand in hers. "Anything for you, Sire." She made a small curtsy.

"Just a dance," he said. "It's all I've been thinking about for a while now."

"I've been practicing," she said, with Rosella usually. She was quite eager to show him how well she could do it after the hours of she spent. She wanted to be someone presentable enough for the likes of him, but she did not particularly want him to know how much effort she put into this. "Just to polish my steps."

"I'm going to be honest," he told her as she stopped and he stepped forward to put his arm around her waist and take hold of her hand. "I might be a bit out of step due to my beautifully distracting partner."

It was very merciful of the musicians to end the cheerful waltz right then and switching to a slower tune. There was less chance of stepping on each other's feet this way. She moved closer to him, close enough to rest her head on his chest. Blair could just stay here forever.

"I'll dance with you as long as you like," he promised her as they moved around the floor. Between Blair's practicing and Arthur's lack of it, they seemed to be very evenly matched in their dancing abilities. "I couldn't have a better partner for it."

"I like you because--" She started, then replayed the words in her mouth to make sure it was what she meant. "Because you treat me like something precious."

"I like you because you are something precious," he said, moving his hand from her back for just a moment to tilt her chin up so that she was looking in his eyes as he spoke.

For all her tough exterior, she was a romantic of the purest kind. If it would amount to a Prince Charming, she really would grow her hair to ridiculous lengths and make her dad lock her up in a tall tower. Or get a cute little balcony and a vial of poison, whichever would work better. Blair could be acting like the biggest tyrant since Alexander the Great most of the time, but she would melt into a puddle of goo if you treat her like a delicate princess.
She tilted her head to give him a slow kiss on the lips.

He leaned forward and gently kissed her back, holding her close to him, almost protectively. It felt very right to Arthur.

She has had times when she doubted that fairytale romances existed, but deep down she knew they did and that she would get her turn one day. Funny how fate decided to turn in her favor when she least expected it. When the kiss ended, she returned to resting her head against him.
She shifted the hand he held, intertwining their fingers. It has all clicked into place.

"I can't even begin to imagine what I did to deserve you," he told her once the dance ended. "But I'm very glad that I did it."
