When; June 6, morning
Rating; PG
Characters; Yuri Lowell [[livejournal.com profile] notflynn] and Leon Magnus [[livejournal.com profile] roseofseingald]
Summary; Yuri and Leon bond like real men - through fighting.
Log; Admittedly, it had been a while since he looked forward to sparring with someone. Monsters didn't cut it- they didn't provide the same thrill he felt when sparring with Flynn, when cutting down intrusive Knights to achieve a better cause, and his blade craved to cross another. Someone with skill. Even better, Yuri was going to fight Leon, that mysterious guy who kept such perfect distance between them. He always carried around that one sword- yet he'd never really seen him use it. Not in a way Yuri was interested in, anyway.

They'd agreed to meet at Xanadu, an oddly pretty place for something like a sword fight. But he liked the seclusion and the space of it. Nobody could get hurt here, and that was what mattered. It was approaching their agreed-upon time, and Yuri was itching to fight. Dein Nomos' weight felt so comfortable and ready in his hand.

He leaned against a tree, clearly visible so Leon wouldn't get lost. Though he wouldn't be lying if he said he wouldn't enjoy seeing Leon get angry at him again. Perhaps he was something of a masochist? Really, it just reminded him of Rita- but just a little. Yuri closed his eyes, the heat of the sun energizing his already restless body. He was ready. He could take Leon on, even months without a proper spar.

Most of all, he was interested in what experiences Leon would bring to the spar as a Knight Captain. He could be in for quite the ride.

Leon made his way through the City to the appointed clearing. He still wasn't completely familiar with the layout of the City, but he had already made a trip out a few days prior. Reconnaissance, if you will. It was best to scope out a potential battle field before using it, though it wasn't always possible to do so. However, this also allowed him to reach the appointed spot without mishap.

He could almost feel Chal vibrating with anticipation beneath his fingertips. After all, Chal had been a fighter as well in his time. It was only expected that he'd be eager for a spar. It was all in good nature, after all. Not for saving the world or any of that nonsense. No, this was simply two swordsmen proving their worth - that their confidence was not unfounded.

Even Leon was a little excited, though he did well to hide it as he entered the edge of the clearing, scanning until he found his opponent. Yuri was early. Well, whatever. He wasn't late, so it was fine.

"Ready?" Oh, the confidence was practically dripping from his voice.

His fingers gripped Chaltier a little tighter, and Chal resonated enthusiastically in response as he was pulled from the sheath.

I'm ready! Chal chimed, chipper as ever. Not that Yuri could hear him anyway.

"Is that- is that a magic lens? You're not from Erther, are you?" How strange. Regardless, Leon was pulling his own odd device out, looking very much like a magnifying glass. The item was only there for a few moments for him to glance through it and ascertain what he needed before it vanished.

"Hmph, formidable at the very least. This should prove interesting."

The ground around his feet had begun to glimmer, a soft brown aura etching an incantation into the Earth. A few quick words fell from his lips, and then- "Ground Dasher!"

The earth splintered upward in jagged pieces, rampaging towards Yuri. A little magic was a nice way to start off this fight, he wagered. But then again, he was already damaging the battlefield. Oh well.

What the hell? That arte looked similar to Demon Fang- but there wasn't time to note something like that. But just that small moment was enough to slow him down just enough that he could not fully dodge it. It caught him on his shoulder, knocking him backwards. But he was quick to recover, flipping back, lunging forward as he unsheathed his dagger as well to meet Yuri's advance.

"Tch- never heard of it. Tiger Blade!" An uppercut, hoping to get Yuri airbourne for the remainder of the arte.

"-ck!" Leon wasn't expecting his own arte to be used against him. Except it was different in some ways. He was pushed backwards, wincing at the impacts. To hell with this, if Yuri was going to use it, why not- "Don't get in my way! Dragon Swarm!"

The sound of metal clashing together as he countered Yuri's attack with his own. He leaped back to maintain distance, another etching on the ground, something simple and quick- "Stone Blast!"

Several rocks ripped from the ground and advanced on the older swordsman. "How the hell do you know my artes!"

"Double Demon Fang!" Just because Yuri was showing off didn't mean Leon was just going to sit around and watch. So they had a few of the same artes, they could figure that out later when this little spar was done. And he was definitely interested in figuring out why Yuri had his artes- it bothered him.

"You don't defend much, do you? That's an easy way to get yourself killed."

/watched Leon's artes last night |D

"Shit-" Leon had been in the process of casting a more difficult spell. Drawing the incantation, he was unable to move out of the way. Azure Storm knocked him to the ground quite suddenly, no time to recover but he could roll a bit to diminish the damage and get out of the way. Leon wasn't ready to use any healing. He could take a bit more damage before that would be necessary, it didn't matter that there was some obvious damage to his dagger arm. He jumped back into the air, which is where he seemed more comfortable.

"Don't interupt me! Dragon Glare!" He was hoping for a six hit attack, one of his favored artes.

omg ikr I'M TRYING TO THINK OF ALL THE SKILLS TO USE LMAO

What a chilling attack, Leon tried his best to guard, but the attack broke through. It had been stronger than he thought it would be.

"Tch-!"

He flipped, using his hand as leverage to catch him from hitting the ground. As soon as he was back to his feet, a circle was carving around him. Though he probably should have healed first, but it was fine. He'd just eat a lemon gel if he took anymore damage. He was sure he could take more of a beating.

"Air Pressure!" Hopefully he aimed it correctly-

why are we made of so much fail |D

An extended Dragon Swarm? Damn, that wasn't good, at this rate he'd really be in trouble if were hit in his condition. No time for a healing spell, he'll have to use an item instead. He backstepped a little, popping a lemon gel into his mouth just in time for the brunt of the attack. He hardly had room at all to counter with Chal.

"Ugh-" he retreated back with a jump to regain his footing before he leaped forward, deciding to forego artes and directly assault Yuri with his weapons.

Just a little more, and he'd be ready for something more devestating. A few more hits, and he'd have it. Against a normal opponent, he would have already achieved such things, but Yuri could hit as well as he did, if not harder with those extended techniques- He couldn't be too careful.

I LOL SO MUCH AT THE SPECING OMG.

Leon had far more tricks up his sleeve than just some flashy techs, though they did make for nice damage. Far more than he could do by attacking normally. He grunted at the taunt, retreating a ways for another arte.

"Chal!"

Ready!

"Let's do this! Pow Hammer!" And there fell from the sky a red and yellow hammer that very much resembled a toy.

LOL FATAL STRIKES. WILL YURI SEE A GREEN CIRCLE?

[identity profile] swordmastering.livejournal.com 2009-06-08 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
"ch-!" Still recovering from his previous spell, the attack caught him full force and he was juggled backwards, grunting at the pain it inflicted with each blow. How embarassing, he was getting sloppy to be hit this much in one battle.

A little more- one more blow should do it, he calculated and his blast calibers would be possible. He just had to get through this attack to counter with one of his own.

It felt like he was being torn apart from all sides - what the hell was that? He was knocked to the ground by it and it took him several moments to get back to his feet. That was some devestating damage, it hurt to even move.

He dashed away from Yuri, figuring the length of the spell cast and how long it would take the other to reach him. When he felt confident with the distance, he started the incantation, a soft glow surrounding him.

"Heal!"

Leon moved straight into a second spell once he was feeling stronger. The etchings along the ground were purple in nature, denoting a dark arte. It took all of about two seconds to cast.

"Demon's Lance!"

Damn it, he'd just healed-! He just barely managed to escape the full force of that second attack. What was it? It seemed special, but not quite as strong as a blast caliber-

Leon didn't have time to try to guess what it was, this battle was too dangerous to spend too much time dawdling in one spot for long. He lunged at Yuri, leaping back into the air. Two spinning slashes and a downward thrust to knock his opponent into the ground, if he was able to catch Yuri in it properly.

And then-

"Don't slow down, scatter everything! Ougi Jouha Messhouen-! Disappear in the flames of darkness!"

[identity profile] swordmastering.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
"-gh!" How many attacks did Yuri have that were like that? He clutched his stomach, kneeling on the ground as he gathered his bearings. Damn- was he not strong enough? No, that wasn't an option anymore! He jumped back several feet, downing an apple gel as he let his body recover.

Once he felt recharged, he charged forward again, "I'll end this! Moon Glare!"

If he aimed correctly when he pierced through the moon that appeared, it'd hit- it wasn't enough to charge another blast caliber. A few more hits.
