"Good to know," Mercy said. "How about you? What do you do here?"

"Mostly, I work and I talk to friends. Equally boring, I think," He chuckled.

"Wow, we're sad," Mercy said with a grin. "Two boring homebodies, who'd have thought?"

"Maybe we should, I don't, do stuff?"

"Now there's a concept," she said with a smile. "I suppose this is a start."

He smiled affectionately. "I'm not complaining."

"Me neither," she said softly. "I'm really enjoying it actually."

He nodded, an almost incredulous smile on his face. "Yeah."

He jumped when a small voice to their right spoke up. "Uh, do you guys need some more time?" She was little, petite, and looked like she hated herself for interrupting.

Thomas chuckled self-consciously. "Uh, yeah. Just a few, thanks." The girl nodded and hurried off.

"Hey, guess what," He said, turning back to Mercy. "We're at a restaurant."

Mercy was blushing. "We are. I suppose that means we should, oh, I don't know, decide what we want to order."

"Yeah, I guess we should." He was laughing as he picked the menu up. Steak. Yes. Steak and a good ale. He smiled. He liked this menu. "So, what looks good to you?"

"Oooh, there's a prime rib special," Mercy said cheerfully. "Prime rib and a baked potatoe and a salad. That sounds just perfect."

"Oh, and she's got good taste in meat also," He smirked. "Not to mention, it sounds divine." He waved the girl over. She came with a smile on her face that seemed for Thomas alone. He heaved a sigh. "The lady and I will have two of your prime rib specials, please. Baked potatoes for both, and salad." The girl nodded, took their doneness orders and dressing preferences, and was gone. His stomach growled. Okay, enough, you.

"Yeah, they can't cook the steak fast enough."

"I know, right?" Mercy was watching the waitress and shaking her head. The girl was still staring at Thomas.

"I didn't realize how hungry I was till just now."

"Yeah," he said, his eyes drifting back to the waitress. "Me either."

"I guess I'll have to get used to that, huh?" Mercy said lightly. "The pitfall of hanging out with a gorgeous guy."

He smiled, but it seemed hollow. "Yeah. Something like that."

"Hey..." she reached over to touch his hand lightly. "You okay?"

He clenched his jaw in resignation. Sometimes, he wished he didn't have to feed on humans to survive. Then, he could just be a hermit and avoid all the attention. "Yeah. I'm fine."

Mercy... didn't get it. But he was clearly bothered by whatever it was and just as clearly not wanting to talk about it, so she let it be. For now anyway. She wasn't known for keeping her mouth shut for long when she was curious.

"So," she said, trying to lighten his mood. "Who knew you were a prime rib fan, too. I hope you're not thinking I'm going to eat three bites and pretend I'm not hungry anymore."

He blinked at her for a moment. She got...no. She didn't get it, but she got that it wasn't a conversation to have at the dinner table, and...she trusted he would explain it. It was in her eyes. A slow smile, genuine this time, spread across his face.

"I hope not. Prime rib's the best cut of meat out there."

"Good," she said promptly, glad to see that real smile. "Because I'm not planning to leave any of it behind."

"You know," he said, leaning back in his chair. "I can't wait to see that. It's gonna be sexy."

That got a big laugh. "Watching me stuff my face is sexy? That's the first time I've ever heard that!"

"Watching a girl get really into anything is sexy, Mercy."

That got her blushing again.

"I guess you'd love watching me change a transmission the," she said with a grin.
