After speaking to Brennan, Inara retrieved the requested double vanilla latte and a Chai latte for herself. It wasn't hard to find Brennan's room number once she was at the hospital. She took the elevator up, carrying the lattes and walked down the hall, poking her head into his room.

"Your coffee has arrived, Sir," she said in a cheerful tone as she stepped inside. "How are you feeling?" she asked, handing him the latte and take a seat in the chair next to his bed.

Brennan accepted the latte with his good arm, nodding his thanks. "Like an angel just floated down from Heaven, bringing the nectar of the gods with her." He took a sip and leaned his head back, heaving a satisfied sigh. "Thanks."

"Well," he said with a smile, "It doesn't hurt that you could pass as an angel." He shifted on the bed, wincing as he tried to make himself more comfortable. "I wish you could have seen me, I don't know, with actual clothes on."

He kept a strained smile on his face while she helped him get comfortable. Once he was, he met her eyes, still smiling. "The sweet talk could just be because I mean it."

"You don't have to thank me for that. I'm just being honest." He took another sip of his latte. Oh, heaven. "It's been a while for me, but I think I still owe you a night out dancing."

He tried to shrug and winced. That was easy to forget, given the painkillers. "Six months, give or take."

He nodded, carefully this time. "Yeah," he said, smiling at her again. "I'm glad."

He looked thoughtful. "Well, I've never liked the idea of forgetting things. It's like losing a part of yourself, you know?"

He smiled. She got it. "Yeah." He studied her for a moment. "You know, it's nice to see you outside the tea house. This is Inara, then, huh?"

He shrugged with his expression, to keep from moving his shoulder anymore. "There's enough of a difference to notice, if you're looking I guess."

He gave a quiet chuckle. "This place is a vacation, Inara."

"Home is that stressful." He heaved a small sigh. "How can I explain this...I'm a New Mutant."

He sighed again, this time slightly at a loss as to how to continue. "Genetic experimentation. They were trying to engineer super soldiers. Our genes mutated and we all developed superhuman abilities." He sat his coffee down on his tray and held up his hand, calling forth a coil of electricity in his hand before letting it dissipate. "I'm an electrical elemental."

"Yeah, well." He chuckled. "People want to use us. There's this organization called the Dominion who's been running the scientific community for centuries, controlling what was released and what wasn't, all that jazz." He shook his head. "We've been working for them and didn't even know it."
