It hadn't occurred to Clef to have the party at the beach - probably because it was still a little chilly yet, but that's presumably why Fuu had rented the hut. He still smiled to think of how meticulously she had planned it, and right under the noses of everyone else. She had gotten the decorations together, rented the hut, and sent out invitations even while Umi and Clef were still unable to decide where and how this party was happening. Not just that, but all of Umi and Shin's cooking for the party had somehow been transported here. It was absolutely perfect, he thought, and now that he considered it he knew that this was exactly what Umi would have wanted - whether she realized it at the time or not. She loved the beach, so it was entirely appropriate to have her party there, regardless of the season.

Clef, for his part, wasn't much of a party person. He made sure to give his well-wishes to all three of the birthday people, but aside from that mostly stayed on the sidelines, ready to help Fuu with her hostess duties should the need arise. Seeing all three of the girls so happy made even him a little more cheerful than usual, though, and even as he lurked in his little out-of-the-way corner there was plainly a slight smile on his face.

When she thought back to how FAST she'd run all the way from the apartment, forgetting everything about birthday plans... Or worse: thinking her birthday was ruined... Fuu had played this one beautifully.

Alright, so maybe it'd freaked the heck out of Umi when she'd heard some sort of weirdo monster had appeared at the beach (she definitely remembered the last time that'd happened: not very nice memories, those). But when she'd arrived there to find all of Fuu's arrangements made for the perfect surprise party it all had vanished.

She should have seen it coming. She should have seen it coming with eyes closed.

Now the Water Knight stood there, amazed by how lucky she was to have nearly all her most beloved people gathered there to celebrate... and yeah. Suddenly being stuck in The City didn't seem too bad.

Not really bad at all.

It was more difficult than she had ever expected to arrange a celebration without Umi's knowledge. It required everyone's help, everyone's silenced help, just for this party to come to fruition. And it was worth it, really. All the conspiracy paid off, she realized, as she glanced around the thoroughly decorated hut.

Fuu had to admit that the monster thing was a little evil. But, she knew Umi too well. She knew that she would set aside everything if any one of them gets endangered. It was the perfect set-up. Although, Fuu couldn't help but feel somehow guilty for playing that little trick.

Nonetheless, their birthday girl was here now and that was all that mattered at the moment.

"Happy Birthday, Umi-san!" Fuu called out, a wide smile on her face. If Umi would dash to their direction now, she would receive not only her present, but a warm hug from one of her best friends. Enough to extinguish the cold for a while.

"There you are..." Umi spoke the words with all the affection she held for her best friend.

That Fuu had gone through all this trouble for her sake, for making her birthday count, even in a place like this... it meant the world to the Water Knight. She intended to make it clear. Who cared for being too sappy this once. Umi couldn't be eloquent enough. Not when it came to thanking her sister. "This... All of this your fault, you know?"

By that she meant not just the party, or the lovely way Fuu's plot had played out, but also the truth their friends were all gathered there, proving once again that yes, it WAS possible to feel happy, even in a City that supposedly thrived on negative emotions.

"Jeez, Fuu. You couldn't have possibly made it better for me!" That stated --sappy or not, it was just the simple truth-- Umi rushed to pull her best friend into a hug. Yes, she'd take the initiative this once. It wasn't as if she couldn't guess those had been Fuu's intentions all along.

At least this one she could really guess. The monster plot? That one had caught her completely off guard!

Ascot hadn't been very sure about what to expect with Fuu's plan, but the look of surprise and happiness on Umi's face was enough to make him happy for weeks. He was glad Fuu had been there to plan out the party, and only hoped he had been help enough.

He approached Umi and smiled, his cheeks their usual rosy shade. "Happy birthday, Umi."

"Ascot!" There you had him, just the young man she wanted to see. Now her day was complete. Not that she doubted he'd come over. She actually saw his hand in lots of the arrangements here. Umi was sure Fuu'd found a great accomplice in the young summoner.

She beamed brightly at Ascot and approached him in turn. "Thanks a lot! You guys have sure made it happy for me! I can't really thank you enough."

Alice stood a bit off to the side, looking around almost nervously. There were a lot of people, some she didn't know, but the crowd was not what made her antsy. It was the fact that she was at a birthday party. She had never had one, as she didn't have a birthday, and had never seen one, save for Oz's coming of age ceremony. And that...well, that wasn't really a party at all.

So seeing so many people, so many happy people, was definitely a sight for her. And she wasn't quite sure how to respond to it or how to act. She wasn't even sure what to do when she got the invite but curiosity urged her to go find out just what all this "birthday" nonsense was about. The only thing she knew Umi liked was cakes, so she went with gut instinct and bought the first thing she found. She's a tard, I KNOW. She had never bought a gift for anyone before, so she hoped it was okay. If not, well, it would be. Just because Alice bought it.

Bag of charms in hand, Alice crept up to Umi shyly, "Umm...Umi?"

"Alice! You could make it! Hey there." Umi was distracted from pondering what an amazing day she was having despite the monster false alarm and all, at seeing the other girl approach her. The Water Knight wasn't the most perceptive soul in the world, certainly. Definitely less so when she was happy. But she did notice Alice's slight hesitancy.

She imagined it was due to social gatherings like this not being a common thing in her friend's world. Like it happened with Raenef. Maybe birthdays were a new, extravagant thing for Alice too!

"Having a good time so far?" She asked. Alright. Now it was her duty to make sure her friend ended up enjoying this as much as to wish to celebrate her own birthday, whenever that was.

It hadn't been an easy secret to keep, honestly - pretending to try and plan with Umi for a party at the apartment while knowing full well that it wouldn't happen. One might suppose that his advising against an outdoor party was just a clever ruse to keep her off the scent, but in all honesty he had been a little worried about the temperature and was glad that Fuu had rented the hut. Ever since he had come to the City and stopped wearing his formal robes in favor of lighter Earth clothes, he had found he was much more sensitive to temperature differences. Nonetheless, he was still secretly wearing the swim trunks he had bought the previous summer underneath his clothes - this was the beach, after all, so he might as well come prepared.

Birthdays weren't usually celebrated in Cephiro, save for a few specific cases. In any case, they weren't gift-giving occasions, so he felt a bit awkward with the small blue box clutched in his hands. He tried to think of it as a sort of coming-of-age ceremony, and that was admittedly part of why he had gotten earrings. That, and the fact that when he saw them they just screamed Umi at him. They weren't the sorts of rounded studs and pendulums he was used to and wore himself, but instead made of light blue wire curled and twisted on itself with a single small stone dangling from it. They reminded him of a rolling ocean, seashells, and of course Umi. It seemed like the sort of thing she'd like, at least, and he was fairly sure he'd seen her wear earrings before.

"Happy birthday, Umi," he said, approaching her with his usual air of formality. Though, if one looked closely one might notice a hint of amusement in his smile. Fuu certainly had her fooled there, didn't she?

"Surprise!" Yuuko said, grinning, when the initial furor had died down and she decided to approach Umi. She loved these kind of silly things, being a bit of a prankster herself. And there was no harm done, in any case.

She smiled. "Having a good time?"

"Did we surprise you?" Presea said eagerly, smiling. One didn't really celebrate birthdays in this manner on Cephiro, but she'd happily thrown herself in the preparations with anyone else. Why not celebrate the anniversary of one's birth regularly? It was great to have Umi around, after all, and that wouldn't happen if she hadn't been born.

Okay, so the reasoning was a little weird, but her heart was in the right place, and she approached Umi with a wrapped gift in her hands.

These were the things Hikaru loved to see: people she loved being together enjoying themselves. It was a pretty big celebration, and Umi deserved every bit of it as far as she was concerned. Fuu and Clef had planned it wonderfully.

Hikaru was more than happy to shout, "SURPRISE!" with everyone when the moment came. And watching Umi's face as the realization set in was like a small prize. After Umi's meets-and-greets were done, Hikaru went up to hug the water knight's neck.

"Happy birthday, Umi."

"Ah, the birthday girl in her natural habitat," Clow remarked, sidling up to Umi and possibly looming there, smiling. "How are you doing, Umi?"

Aska smiled as she waited for everyone to rain their birthday blessings on the trio celebrating. She had not one, but three presents in her small arms, one of which was a bit bigger than the rest. As anxious and impatient as she was, Aska forced herself to wait.

She had one present for each of the Magic Knights, and then one BIG present for everyone in attendance. She smiled and rocked on her heels, just waiting for one of the Magic Knights to approach.

Fuu took notice of this when her gaze traveled to the Fahren royalty and she couldn't help getting curious. Giggling, she approached her, watching her rock her heels like that. It was downright adorable.

"Lady Aska, is there something the matter?" The Wind Knight inquired softly, crouching down a bit so she could be at eye-level. Of course, she knew they were presents but three? Who knew Lady Aska loved giving birthday presents to people in threes?

"Aska..." A plate of cake in hand, Umi approached Fahren's young Princess with a comforting smile on her face. That day hadn't precisely started well for either of them. Therefore it was relieving to see the little girl there, willing to have fun along with all their friends from Cephiro. "I'm glad you came. Um..."

Umi nodded toward the bundles in Aska's arms, here eyes widening in amazement. "You bought presents for all three of us?"

Inevitably, Clef slipped out of the hut to take a stroll along the shore. Even if it was too cold for a swim, it seemed rather silly to have a party at the beach and not go out to look at the ocean. Even if he lacked the particular affinity Umi had for it, he still loved gazing out to sea. The vast expanse of blue had a way of making one feel small and insignificant, much like gazing up at the stars. It was a good meditative exercise, in any case, and gradually his eyelids drooped and then slipped closed as he contemplated the near-perfect silence, the rushing of the wind and waves, and the happiness and harmony of the party he had just left behind. A deep expanse of blue.

He opened them feeling calm again, if just a little homesick. Not in an altogether bad way, though.

The sound of the water was on the edge of Presea's consciousness, and had been nearly since they'd arrived. She didn't live close to a shore, and eventually slipped out of the party to have a look. It was too cold, Fuu had said, to swim, in all likelihood, but just to watch the waves come in would be nice, Presea thought. The ssssh-sssh-wavecrash sound was soothing, and such a contrast to the bubbly and bright celebration going on indoors. Presea was enjoying the party, of course, but there was nothing wrong with taking a break.

She supposed she shouldn't be surprised to see Clef out here. It wasn't unlike him to seek a moment's peace in the midst of chaos, if he was allowed the chance. And he did look peaceful, which made her smile a little. She was used to his much brighter demeanor after the creation of New Cephiro. To think of him as he had been living at home, amidst all the worry of those previous uncertain times, made her sad. She was glad he could find some rest here.

So she put on a small smile and approached him with the easy manner of long familiarity, knowing that if he'd really minded company, he wouldn't have been so easy to find.

Raenef knew there was going to be celebration for their birthdays, but this was still a surprise to him, especially with how many people invited too.

He didn't have one of his own that he knew of, so having this day as his birthday was nice. It was almost perfect timing since Eclipse just arrived the other day and he really was glad to see him. He'd never really had much of a celebration or anything really for this sort of thing, it wasn't something he was used to, but he was happy about it, regardless.

When Eclipse was informed of the party, he was initially opposed to such foolish mortal concepts. Demons lived several thousand years and Demon Lords even longer than that, so the very idea of celebration of one year's passing was senseless and unheard of. To hear of a Demon Lord commemorating his birthday would cause a riot in the demon world. It was absolutely absurd.

But Lord Raenef was quite unlike most other Demon Lords and, knowing his background, Eclipse was certain having this party would greatly please him. As such, he held his tongue and accompanied his master to the festivity in silence. He stood off to the side, observing as the party-goers had their fun and leaving Raenef to do as he wished. Of course, however, he still remained closeby at all times in case any trouble should break out.

Her partner birthday boy! There you had him. Umi had moved from greeting the several guests at the hall of the hut to getting herself a sampling of the amazing variety of pastries Hikaru had shown her to (the not sweet ones, of course!). Now she'd spotted Raenef amid the crowd, she had to smile and approach him.

"...Hey." She greeted him happily, casually. They'd both been victims to Fuu's master plan regarding the false monster alarm. How on earth had they'd both fallen for it so completely. It was a great thing that they had. "Enjoying your party so far? You should get yourself something to eat! Shin outdid himself at the kitchen."

It was as important for her that Raenef should enjoy this gathering as it was to enjoy it herself.

Spotting the other celebrant, Fuu made her way to him with a ubiquitous smile on her face. She had heard that Umi gave him his birthday and the Wind Knight couldn't help but feel a bit saddened by the fact that demon lords actually don't have any birthdays. This was another reason why Fuu made a special effort to make this party just perfect.

"Raenef-san, happy birthday!" She beamed, greeting him like this was actually the day he was born.

It was quite the celebration, and what with Mokona being, well, Mokona, he was bouncing about and having a grand old time, hoping from one person's head to another person's shoulder, and generally enjoying himself as he scurried about.

After feeling he'd caused enough of a ruckus for the time being, he settled himself in one of the available chairs, letting out a long, content sigh as he watched the party-goers. It was a nice sight to see in a place such as this, and it was a nice reminder that even here, there was fun to be had.

...Just the fluffball she'd wanted to see. Umi had to giggle and roll her eyes at the tiny god's antics. So a part of the bouncy ball of marshmallow fluff they'd believed him to be during their time in Cephiro hadn't ever left Mokona entirely. Just see him there.

She waved from afar and then approached him. "Having fun, aren't you? That's a good thing! I'm glad you decided to come too, Mokona. The party wouldn't be complete without you."
