When; Wednesday afternoon and evening
Rating; PG-13?
Characters; Several
Summary; Sam hosts a beach party for anyone who wants to come
Log;

Sam had tried to do everything he could to make the beach trip as fun as possible, especially considering all that had happened recently. Not everyone had calmed down after yesterday, but it was enough that he didn't cancel the trip.

He had volleyball set up, a dozen umbrellas for the more fair skinned to take refuge under, and a really ugly couch to put in a bonfire later.

Food and drink also abounded, including enough electrolyte replenishing drinks to help anyone who drank all the alcohol he brought stave off too massive of a hangover. All in all, it was a recipe for a good time. Or at least Sam hoped.

CAN HAZ VODKA!

Arkady had picked up the bottle and was sitting cross-legged on the beach, looking out over the... ocean? This place was wrong. Things here were wrong, off, different and she couldn't go wide enough to understand it.

She took a pull on the bottle and closed her eyes, trying to find the ticking. Maybe if she found the ticking...

Power was to be kept a secret. They were good at that, hide the power, hide what they did. So she pulled herself back, contracted back to herself, and opened her eyes.

"Hello."

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
She looked at the bottle. "It's vodka." As if that explained everything.

"Oh, I forget things all the time. Not just when I'm drinking."

She remembers manners and holds out the bottle. "Share?"

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay." She takes another swig herself. "Is it safe to sleep out here?"

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
She considered this. She's never tried to do things like that underwater, maybe she could.

Maybe she couldn't.

"Until tide?"

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-05-27 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe a roof somewhere."

Another swig of vodka. She set the bottle aside, she'd save it for later.

After the sun set, Penny ventured out from under the shaded safety of the sun umbrellas to enjoy the bonfire (although the couch that served as kindling was too cute in a retro way to burn, she thought) and company. A girl sitting alone on the beach caught her eye. Someone she hadn't met? How on earth could that have happened?

"Hey," Penny said with a smile, approaching the girl. "Having a good time?"

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Arkady hefted the bottle.

"I have vodka, I'm good."

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Vodka always makes for a good time." Well, not always. At beach parties, however, it's relatively harmless. "Are you a friend of Sam's?"

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
She shook her head, "No, none of my friends are here."

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm sorry," she replied, sitting next to the girl. "Well... if you're up for making new friends, I'm Penny."

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
"We've always been together. Now I'm alone."

She shook it off. "Vodka?" She offered the bottle to Penny. "I'm Arkady."

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-05-28 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Had Penny known Arkady longer than about half a minute, she would have given her a hug. "You won't be alone for long, I bet. This place has a way of bringing the people we're looking for to us eventually."

She grinned and waved off the offer of alcohol. "No thanks, Arkady. Arkady... that's a neat name."

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-05-30 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
"I like it."

She looks around, at the people that she can hear outside and inside her head, and this new person.

"People have been nice so far."

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-05-30 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Arkady seems a bit... off? Distant? Penny wonders if it's the vodka or something else. It doesn't matter either way. Most people here are a bit off. Anyway, Arkady seems nice. "They usually are. This's a good place to be... I mean, as far as company goes. Maybe not so much for the curses."

[identity profile] have-a-job-too.livejournal.com 2010-05-30 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmmmm." She's heard of the curses, it's like the Deities are like Mark. Getting in people's heads, making them their army.

Only a lot sillier.

"It's not right to make others do what you want them to. Not if they don't want to."

[identity profile] horrible-penny.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
"It's not," Penny agrees, not sounding all that bothered by it. "The curses are definitely violations of our rights. I don't know if the deities have that much choice in what they're doing, though. They act like it's their jobs, not something they do for kicks."
