WHEN: midnight between Sept.29 - 30th, all day of the 30th.

SUMMARY: Come midnight,

monstrodick seeks its [Bad username or site: tharheblows title= @ livejournal.com] in battle, taking down his ship in three flicks of its great tail in the course of one hellish hour. The Whale takes the Captain, but spares his crew, and later it returns to carry the less fortunate survivors to the island fringe. And what of the Arkmaster? Time will tell. For now, deprived of their weapons and their goods, the shipwrecked Citizens should care for their own.

[ooc: have fun playing out the aftermath of the shipwreck! After sinking the ship, The Whale will deliver any survivor who can't make it back to the island on their own; it will also be making sure no one tries to escape the City by trying to swim further off in the horizon.

If you'd like to log the ship sinking, or your characters making their way back to the City!island, be sure to title your threads "DURING SHIPWRECK" or "ON THE WAY BACK" or something to hint at the timeline. If not, just go ahead and thread how your gent, or your belle manages to pull it together and survive at the City!island periphery without much by way of provisions.

Remember that while they'll have access to their apparently waterproof network devices, your characters won't be able to get back into the City proper until tomorrow, because of the very heavy patrol of forest monsters blocking the way. (Naturally, it never hurts to try!) Likewise, while people in the City are welcome to give them tips or instructions, and to know of their whereabouts, they shouldn't be able to physically come down and meet the survivors at this time.]

[ The sight of the blade in Kanone's hand took Tyr by surprise - which was likely evident on his face - before he simply nodded after a moment. So he was the type of person to carry a weapon on him? Somehow, he thought he should have expected something like this from Kanone. ] If you can do it on your own, I'll leave the hunting to you... I'll try to have the fire started by the time you return.

[Kanone nodded, turning and heading into the depths of the forest. He promised himself he wouldn't take too long. It was partly because he was very sure he wouldn't be able to make it far in his current state, but also because he had someone dependent on him for survival. Of course, Kanone had no doubts that Tyr could fend for himself if he was alone. That he knew. But it gave him a familiar comfort to think that someone needed him right now. It brought him back to a time he secretly yearned for.

It was the same; the trees, the falling leaves, the sounds that echoed but had no definite source. The way he focused the blade was the same, the flick of his wrist, the narrowing of gold eyes as they ensnared the target before it was struck by the knife. The poor creature fell without a sound.

He returned after a while, carrying two decent-sized rabbits. The switchblade, still bloodied, had been hastily closed and shoved back into his pocket. Kanone set the rabbits down before taking a seat, himself.]

[ With Kanone leaving without a word, Tyr turned his attention to the task at hand. The... forest? ...floor was littered with branches and leaves that had fallen with the start of autumn. Even with his head (now more subtly) aching, he could build a fire with his eyes closed. The things you get used to when you wander aimlessly for a few years, he guessed.

At least with this task, as mundane as it was, Tyr could continue to push away darker thoughts. His mind was entirely focused on the sounds around him and the sticks he was collecting. Collecting wood, clearing a spot, arranging the sticks - it was all done automatically. The only real thought he had was that if he had anything but his staff with him, he'd light the pile with flint, but failing that, he removed his left glove. He really disliked using magic, being skilled in using it or not, but the common fire rune had the wood burning in no time.

Upon hearing Kanone's approach, Tyr returned the damp glove to his hand and watched as he - and the rabbits - come into clarity in the fire light. But he wanted to look over the rabbits once Kanone set them down. ]

They look good... You're a pretty good hunter. [ He looked back up at Kanone. ] Do you want me to skin them? Since you caught them...

[Kanone appraised the fire before answering the question.]

I can take care of it. And you can cook them. [With that, he took out the switchblade and proceeded to skin the rabbits, and remove the parts they would not be eating. It was a simple task, having done it before with his mother, but the cold made his hands numb and slightly clumsy. When the task was completed, Kanone looked up at Tyr with a satisfied smile, and held out the rabbits to him.]

This should be enough for us until the morning.

[ Tyr watched him work curiously. So Kanone was used to this sort of thing? Even though his hands didn't move as deftly as Gremio's would have at such a task, it was a more thorough job than Tyr would have performed. When he finished, Tyr took the rabbits and returned the smile with a nod. ] Yeah... Hopefully it won't be hard to find more later...

[ With that, Tyr skewered the two rabbits through the cavity with the green branch he had set aside for the task. It was too bad they didn't have anything to go on them, but really, as long as they were cooked and warm, Tyr wasn't going to be picky for once. Right over the fire they went. ...Tyr took this opportunity to sit a bit more closely to the fire, too. ]

We can always fish, if we need to. [He was sure they would at least have enough energy for that, after a meal and sleep. Hunting was his forte, so he would have no trouble finding and bringing back anything that inhabited this forest. He momentarily entertained the though of coming every now and then to practice knife throwing. Goodness knows he's gotten a bit rusty. And it would be perfect for clearing his mind.]

Cold? [He noticed Tyr moving to sit closer to the fire.]

If you want... [ He would have scoffed if he didn't realise Kanone probably wasn't picking at Tyr's lack of fishing skill. So instead he simply nodded even though he had little intention of actually fishing with Kanone. If knife-throwing would clear his mind, fishing would just do the opposite for Tyr. ]

My clothes are still damp... I can't exactly hang them up to dry. Aren't you cold?

It's colder if you keep them on. At least you would dry more quickly if you took off something. [The reflection of the flames danced in his eyes. He closed them momentarily, trying to rid himself of the weariness he felt.]

I'm fine. It's not like I could do much, anyway. Let's hope this is as cold as it gets. [He stretched out his arms, resting them on his knees. He was hungry, but he feared sleep would claim him first. Kanone began to yawn, but stifled it.]

You could take your own advice... [ Since the only thing Tyr does is pull off his bandana and set it on his knee. Look at his short, messy hair, because it's the only time Kanone will ever see it again. While he'd like to take off his gloves, he couldn't allow himself to with nothing else to cover the rune on his right hand. Tyr rotated the makeshift skewer the rabbits were on just to put his hand closer to the fire again. ]

But if it gets colder, I'll just set up a second fire... There really isn't much more we can do until morning...

Right. I don't think so. I only suggested it for your sake. [He toyed with the idea of setting his shirt to dry, but he felt oddly uncomfortable at the thought being exposed...though, it wasn't as if Tyr could actually see a missing rib. Still...

Kanone quirked an eyebrow and smiled a bit. Tyr looked more like a child with his tousled hair. He wouldn't voice that, though. No. He would just think it, amused.]

When are those rabbits going to be ready?

It depends on how rare you like your meat... They're probably still bloody at the core now. [ But Tyr noticed that raised eyebrow and smile. If he had just smiled, Tyr would have shrugged it off as Kanone smiling at odd times again, but with that whole look... ]

What's wrong?

[Kanone shrugged, averting his gaze from Tyr and back to the food.]

Nothing's wrong. I was only asking. [He played it off, the smile on his lips faintly present.] Is there a problem...?

Not that I know of... [ Though he was a bit suspicious of that look, he could disregard it for now. ] As long as this place gives us a break for the night, we should be fine.

Unless you're not used to sleeping outdoors! But, I highly doubt that's the case for either one of us.

[Crossing his legs, he leaned against a log and closed his eyes.]

Anyway, there's nothing to be afraid of here. The forest only feigns mystery.

Nah, I'm used to sleeping on the road.

[ It was nice to see Kanone so relaxed; it put Tyr a bit more at ease, too, though he remained in place. ] Hopefully that applies to this place, too. Though I guess you've already gotten a pretty good look at this forest...

Travel often, Tyr?

[It was good to know they were on equal ground, in this respect.] Not thoroughly, no. But I don't think it would be much different that a forest from my home, or anyone's for that matter. I don't care if it is part of this curse-ridden world. Aside from that, it's not much different.

I used to, yeah. Did you?

If you say so... [ Tyr was pretty sure Kanone could eventually regret thinking like that, but at the moment, he wanted to believe Kanone more than be overly cautious. ] But from what I've seen of the areas of the City proper, the only thing that's really different from normal forests and beaches are the species of monsters... There shouldn't be anything we can't handle here.

Not traveling. I'm used to extensive stays outdoors, though.

[He gives only the slightest nods in agreement] Different species aren't much. It'll make for a more entertaining experience out here, at the most. Not that we're looking to be entertained right now.

Oh... [ Tyr wasn't sure if that was because of something good or bad, so he simply didn't press the topic. Unwanted memories were the last thing he wanted to bring up. ]

Right. [ Tyr gives a more sure nod before turning to the rabbits again. ] We should probably eat these soon, though. The aggressive ones won't be much fun to deal with right now...

I think they should be ready. [And if not, it didn't matter to him. The hunger was already uncomfortable. But he smiled to himself and looked forward to the next day, when they would finally be home and away from this godforsaken area. This had been too much.

Kanone takes one of the rabbits and cuts off pieces to eat.]

[ Since they were fresh, they'd be warm on the inside anyway, Tyr reasoned as he watched Kanone start cutting. ]

Are we going to share each of them? [ Since you're the only one with a knife here, though Tyr didn't voice that part. ]

[ Also, I'm sorry for taking forever and a day. orz ]

You can take your own. [Kanone took the other rabbit off of the fire, handing it to him.

After a second--] Did you want something to cut it with? I do have another one. [A half-smile, because Tyr could've just asked him]

[No worries~ We should try to finish this thread though <3 ]

[ Tyr took the other rabbit when it was offered to him, though looked at it a bit blankly until Kanone spoke again. That was a bit embarrassing! But Tyr just nods and holds out his free hand. ]

I didn't think you would... I was going to wait until you were finished with that one...

[ We will! Just forgive me for being so slow.;; ]

Why wait? [Kanone didn't mention that he always carried several on him, instead taking out a different switchblade that was in another pocket.]

The food isn't as enjoyable when it's cold, you know. The dinner setting itself leaves a lot to be desired, but it's better to make the most of it. [He then hands Tyr the knife.]

[Don't worry, it's okay! :D ]

Might as well... [ Nodding, Tyr started cutting away bits of meat as best he could. Tyr obviously did not act as the butcher in his group. He gets the job done, though, and starts eating; some blood does end up staining his gloves, but he doesn't really care. ]

So you use knives? [ Sorry, Kanone, carrying more than one was already a bit questionable to Tyr. ]
