And what is a City overrun by Venice flair without its masque?

Come sundown, the overly-lit Palace, suffering under a sea of orchids and a white-and-gold palette, will be welcoming the ladies and gentlemen of our fair City as its guests to this year’s Valentine’s Day ball. Have no fear, the Palace staff has been given notice to help newcomers dock their gondolas!

Should they lack their own, ladies will be served a dance card, white cape and masque upon arrival. Gentlemen without can also be helped find a suitablemask.

Guests will not be introduced by name, but by their choice of pseudonym; instead, they can play the guessing game until masks are formally removed at midnight, giving their time, and maybe their hearts to some hopeful stranger.

jesusing_clown and a cohort of waiters will produce the evening’s treats;

taravata will be attending on any task that calls for strong arms and keen balance;

risetwice’s patisserie will be providing breads, cakes, and the evening’s tort; and

eagleofautozam has promised sweets and candied souvenirs.

This is exactly his sort of scene so of course he's confident. "And here I'd of thought the glass of scotch would give me away."

He raises the mask to wink at her then settles it back into place.

She responds to that by lifting her mask to show a smile and then putting it back into place. "I think you probably make every place a little bit your own. And what do I call you here outside of the workplace? Boss? Mr. Stark? That tall guy that smells like cologne and scotch over there?"

He smirks, thoroughly pleased with her reaction. "I do try." In other words he tries to take over and be the center of attention. "I think Tony will do but I'm leaning toward 'That tall guy that smells like cologne and scotch'."

"Well in theory, the mix doesn't sound so hot but --" Leaning in just close enough, Dawn inhales a deep breath, smelling the mixture. And when she leans back again her eyebrows lift and she's nodding in a slow mixture of surprise and approval. "-- but it actually is not so bad. Go you. You know if you were smart you'd market a cologne that already has that mix in it." She teases him.

He gives her a grin that he knows is sexy and quirks an eyebrow up at her boldness. "But then I'd have to have you hire a perfumer for me. I can think of better things for you to do."

He takes a flute of champagne from a passing waiter and holds it out to her. "Like have a glass of champagne and then dance with me."

Dawn takes the champagne and nods a bit of thanks to the waiter passing by. Then she looks to Tony. "Well you should know that I'm just now learning to do this ballroom dancing things."

"Stick with me, Kid. I've been doing this for years." More like decades since he started ballroom dancing with his mother when he was very young. He takes a sip of his scotch, rattling the ice cubes as he does.

That surprised her really. Tony didn't seem the ballroom dancing type. "Really? You, ballroom dancing? I'm trying to imagine that."

"Are you kidding? I've been to more charity events than I can count. Ballroom dancing comes with the territory." It was more a society thing; something his mother insisted that he learn.

"I'm kind of excited to see it then." Cause really, she still can't imagine the guy she sees at City Solutions everyday dancing like those people on the dance floor.

"I'm told it's poor manners to keep a lady waiting." He holds his hand out for hers. She can take the champagne if she likes. It's not likely they'll be doing anything she can't hold onto it with one hand. He'll gladly retrieve her another later if she chooses to abandon it.

She decides to abandon it. Taking it with her would be considered multitasking and she would rather not make a complete fool of herself on the dance floor. She puts her hand in his and walks with him toward the dance floor. "I think there is some saying like that. But it probably goes both ways in reality. No one should be kept waiting, unless it's a strategic move with a possibly positive outcome."

"It can be a tactical move," he agrees as he takes her hand. His other hand goes to the small of her back. "Take a deep breath and follow along. Have you done this before?"

"No. No never. Well I mean I've danced at a club but this is real dancing." She's holding tight to his hand because well, she might be a little nervous.

That makes the corner of his mouth quirk up in a smile. "Real dancing that I can teach you."

And he moves them both into a tight spin just long enough to be impressive before they straighten out.

Her eyes go wide as he spins her. "Ohmigod and I didn't fall -- yet." Except she chose that moment to miss a step and step on his toe.

He chuckles at her expression then quirks an eyebrow when she steps on his toe.

"I'm told I'm fairly apt at making sure a girl doesn't fall."

"So far so good on the not letting me fall part, but this doesn't bode well for your shoes. And they're probably expensive." She says.

"They're very expensive. I can afford to buy more."

And it's another spin. This time he's going to twirl her out a bit and pull her back in.

Good move cause she misses his shoes this time. "Bragger. You're a rich bragger, did you know that?" She teases.

He pulls her back in, his arm going around her waist sot hat his hand rests at the small of her back again. "I've always lived by the motto 'if you've got it, flaunt it'." He winks at her.

She laughs then, just because everything he does is so loud and proud. "You really are good at this whole real dancing thing. I'm an impressed Summers girl."

He doesn't know how to function any other way. Dawn will learn soon enough that a lot of it is a cover for his alcoholism and the pressure he feels and has felt his whole life.

"I'll try and make a habit of it."

"Well to be fair since I have no experience in this, I'm easily impressed." She teased as he moved her around the dance floor.

"Now you're just trying to crush my ego," Tony smirks at her, staying light on his feet.
