Come sundown, the overly-lit Palace, suffering under a sea of orchids and a white-and-gold palette, will be welcoming the ladies and gentlemen of our fair City as its guests to this year’s Valentine’s Day ball. Have no fear, the Palace staff has been given notice to help newcomers dock their gondolas!

Should they lack their own, ladies will be served a dance card, white cape and masque upon arrival. Gentlemen without can also be helped find a suitablemask.

Guests will not be introduced by name, but by their choice of pseudonym; instead, they can play the guessing game until masks are formally removed at midnight, giving their time, and maybe their hearts to some hopeful stranger.

jesusing_clown and a cohort of waiters will produce the evening’s treats;

taravata will be attending on any task that calls for strong arms and keen balance;

risetwice’s patisserie will be providing breads, cakes, and the evening’s tort; and

eagleofautozam has promised sweets and candied souvenirs.

She laughs. "I guess it's not so bad. Are you happy now?"

"Actually, I am! Thanks for coming with me, Toph." His voice and the smile on face are gentler than they normally are. At first, he was disappointed that Katara was going to the dance with Tyr, but now he's not feeling so disappointed.

"You're welcome, Twinkletoes." She smiles a little and thumps him in the shoulder. Somehow Iroh had been right. This wasn't as bad as she'd expected.

"You know, I think I could call you twinkletoes after this. Were you given dancing lessons when you still lived at home?"

"They trained me to be the perfect lady," she answered. Her tone made clear what she thought of that ridiculous idea.

Aang decides to try and take the lead again. He starts to pick up the pace and the two of them go faster across the dance floor and start to twirl more often. "Sounds like some of the training I did, except it was to be the perfect Avatar."

She seems content to let him lead, laughing as she twirls. "I bet that training was a lot more interesting than mine. I'd rather learn earthbending forms than how to arrange flowers I can't even see."
