Xanadu is buzzing this afternoon with with food stands and booths with games to play and trinkets to sell or win. There are a couple of stages where people play instruments, sing, juggle, and otherwise entertain.

People donated money, time and materials to bring everything together. Some areas are very polished and professional while others have more of a homemade touch, but it blends together nicely and there is a little something for everyone. A little further from the main attractions there is space for relaxing or playing a game of frisbee or catch.

As the evening settles upon the City, paper lanterns light up an outdoor dance floor and a band plays a range of music from romantic to spirited. There are also tables set up for those who would prefer to star or people gaze.

[She smiles a more specific sort of smile just for him—fond and teasing.] That sounds like something you'd say about a festival. Which is good since it was something you said about a festival.

Did you come to steal me for a dance?

[He has to smile back. Euphie makes it very hard to be miserable, especially when she's right.] What made you think I don't usually go to them?

[Good question.] Should I have?

[She likes seeing that smile. Nicer for how rare it can be.] I have my ways.

[She reaches a hand out for his, ready to step into the dancing area.] Of course. [She might do the stealing.]

[Euphie's hand gets the same look that a venomous snake might receive. He takes it gingerly.] Then I should warn you that I'm a terrible dancer, too.

[A happier end than the snake would receive. Maybe. This is Justin.] I wore reinforced shoes just in case. [She didn't of course. Her smiles says as much.]

[Euphie does rank higher than poisonous snakes.]

You should have. I'll try not to break your toes. [That's as much of an invitation to dance as she's going to get.]

[She is glad of that!]

I appreciate that. Such a gentleman. [She feels the coolness of his hand. It's not something she's discussed much with Justin and certainly not a conversation she wants to have at the moment. No, for now, she'll gently pull him to the edge of the floor. She won't try to take him to the center. She as a feeling a darker corner is more comfortable to him. Just as they arrive the lively song comes to an end and a ballad begins, so she gently guides his hands to where they should rest on her.]

Have you danced with anyone before?

[Was that snark? She sounds so sincere.

Snark or not, he follows Euphie's lead, more than happy to stay out of the middle of things. Dark corners and edges are always preferable whether they're literal or metaphorical. Justin keeps his hands where she puts them and watches his feet to make sure they don't do anything stupid.]

I danced with Shilo once. That was during a curse.

[It was sincere snark which is totally a thing! Mostly just light teasing. She feels like she can do that with him.]

Did you enjoy it? I mean besides the part where it was a curse.

No one left prom with a limp, so I suppose it was okay.

The curse was prom? [She looks at him curiously as she steps to the music.]

High school. [Euphie's feet narrowly escape being stepped on. Justin wasn't exaggerating his inability to dance.] That curse was interesting.

I think I remember a curse like that. It makes sense that I would. We were here for the same time without knowing each other I suppose.

[othersdie]

Probably. I knew of you before I ever spoke to you.

[deadly_legacy]

Knew of me? Do you mean in the play or even before that?

[othersdie]

Before that. [That sounds somewhat creepy, actually, but Justin tends to know of people just by virtue of paying attention to the network.] Neil and Todd might've mentioned you.

[deadly_legacy]

[She smiles and finds it kind of cute instead of creepy.] I'm glad I finally spoke to you then.

[othersdie]

[Euphie, your character judgment.] So am I.

[deadly_legacy]

[She just smiles.] Do you want to try a spin?

[othersdie]

Where I spin you? I just--sort of lift my arm up... is that how it works?

It's a little more involved. I could spin you to show you. [A teasing sort of smile.]

Maybe you should spin me once so I know what I should do...? [After all, it's not like Justin has any dignity to lose.]

Okay. I should switch to the lead. [She moves her hands and nods for him to shift his too.]

[othersdie]

[He puts his hands where hers were on him, paying very close attention. There will be a test.] Okay.

Just move with the flow. [She takes him through a few steps and then begins to lead him through the spin. It's a little strange being on this side of it, but she used to dance with Nunnally when they were children and she'd lead then.]
