Xanadu is buzzing this afternoon with with food stands and booths with games to play and trinkets to sell or win. There are a couple of stages where people play instruments, sing, juggle, and otherwise entertain.

People donated money, time and materials to bring everything together. Some areas are very polished and professional while others have more of a homemade touch, but it blends together nicely and there is a little something for everyone. A little further from the main attractions there is space for relaxing or playing a game of frisbee or catch.

As the evening settles upon the City, paper lanterns light up an outdoor dance floor and a band plays a range of music from romantic to spirited. There are also tables set up for those who would prefer to star or people gaze.

Yeah. [ Something between a genuine grin and a smirk lighting up her face. ] Your brother let you out to play today, Sammy?

[Sam rolls his eyes.]

Don't remind me. And don't call me Sammy.

No? [ Laughing. She's in a genuinely good mood today. ]

[He's firm, but smiling a little--he appreciates her good humor but only Dean gets to call him that, and that only with the understanding that Sam will protest even though he likes it.]

This is nice, though, yeah? Sort of... what we needed, maybe.

All right, gotcha. [ She can respect that. She doesn't want people (other than the Doctor) calling her Amelia, either. ]

Yeah. It's good to get out a bit. 's usually all same old, same old. This is definitely nice.

[Sam tilts his head, looking at her.]

Same old. What is that for you, exactly? I mean, other than exciting curses?

[waitedforyears]

[ Looking away with a shrug. ] Bartending, hanging about. Checking the network. Just, stuff.

Wasn't so bad while Rory was still here. [ A pause, and then she's giving him a quick grin. It's mostly honest, too. ] 's not too bad, now. The Doctor's here— three of them, but the one who knows me. We've opened a detective agency.

Wow. A detective agency. [Sam looks impressed.] That's something. But... I guess I know what you mean. I don't know what I'd do without Dean here. [He knows that he should think that way about Jess--and he still misses her. But it's not the same.]

[waitedforyears]

Yeah. So if you've got any mysteries, send them our way> [ Bumping her shoulder against his (well, against his upper arm, at least, he is pretty tall). ] 's good to have someone.

[To her credit--or something--she's comes up higher than most women he's known.]

I will. And if you have any... research... you need someone to go to the library for... [He trails off.] Okay sometimes my skill set sounds really lame.

Not so lame. [ With a shrug. ] I like history books. [ So clearly, it isn't lame. ]

Oh yeah? What kind? [He shakes his head.] I mean, like, a specific period?

Romans. I really, really like the Romans. [ And not just Rory. ]

Huh. Why's that?

[waitedforyears]

Not sure. Why's anyone like anything? [ A shrug. ] They're kinda cool.

Fair enough. I just wondered if it was, like, a certain thing, like you like the... sculpture, or architecture, or... I dunno, just making conversation.

[waitedforyears]

Yeah, no.

You know, I never got the sculpture thing. What's so special 'bout sculptures? [ She might hate them a little, thanks to the Weeping Angels. ]

[Sam shrugs.]

I don't know. I mean, I guess because... people learned to represent figures and stuff so well? At least they're not as creepy as paintings.

Sculptures are definitely creepier than paintings.

Has a sculpture ever hopped out of its frame and gone around killing anyone who bought it? I don't think so.

[Though come to think of it... he actually doesn't know that for sure. Except for the frame part.]

[ Pause. ] So you got stuff creeping out of paintings?
