It's Rapunzels birthday.

When; Thursday night
Rating; PG-ish
Characters; Charlie, Rapunzel, Party invitees.
Summary; Charlie's trying to throw her best friend a surprise birthday party and may have botten in over her head.
Log;

Rapunzel was one of several people in the City that Charlie thought was important. In fact, Charlie'd quite easily say Rapunzel was her best friend. When she heard Rapunzels' birthday was coming, Charlie wanted to do something about it so, after telling several of their friends about it, Charlie spent the last several days gathering what she needed for the party.

There was a cake which Charlie helped make. There was a table covered in other kinds of foods, too. Smaller cakes, candies, sandwiches, fruit and vegetable trays and several kinds of drinks. Some with alcohol and some without.

And this all took place in the rooftop garden of Charlie's apartment. Most of the vegetables and fruits are gone. (protip; they're on the table covered in food). This leaves several kinds of flowers decorating the place. And there were floating lanterns, unlit, set on a table. All of them had been made by various party-goers and Charlie and she'd left a few unfinished in case people wanted to work on those.

Tied to the corners of the table were a few lit lanterns that burned harmlessly. There were also strings of dragonfly lights strung around the area, some of which shift color very very slowly.

Enjoy!

Seeing the movement of Charlie's hand, Merlin moved his to meet it halfway, sending a grin her way. He thought it was quite obvious Rapunzel liked it. And, well.

"That's what matters, isn't it?"
destinedtobeunpopular: (Oh you)

"Yeah." He squeezed Charlie's hand a little, briefly, and closed his eyes as he dropped his head back. "It was very thoughtful of you. All this."

First, Merlin didn't say anything and just nodded, the smile not quite leaving his face. It was subdued, content.

"Fine. Just a little tired."

Cleaning was fairly exhausting after all. Good thing he was used to it.

Merlin smiled a little wider, amused, and shook his head. Charlie had been doing pretty much everything, after all; the least he could do was help a little.

"You deserve the rest," he said.
destinedtobeunpopular: (Oh wow did that just happen)

A snorted laughter escaped Merlin at that and he cracked an eye open to peer at her, trying to raise an eyebrow although hell if he knew if he succeeded. Hopefully something like it, at least.

That was one way to ask, he supposed.

"I guess I can put up with that."

Merlin made sure to help and make room best he could. Charlie's presence always made it very difficult to feel any sort of negative emotions, and it tended to leave him feeling amused most of the time as well. She had a wit to her that meshed well with his own humour, and that certainly helped matters.

What use was it to be together if you couldn't make each other laugh, right?

He made a humming sound as a response and stroked his hand absently over her back, resting his forehead lightly against hers as he kept his eyes closed.

Her voice was nice like that, though. Very soothing, sort of like the wind whistling through the walls in his old home back in Ealdor. He took a deep breath at it, relaxing considerably, and gave a quiet chuckle.

"Maybe. Pretty sure we might wake up with a bit of pain, though."

Because this probably wasn't an ideal place to sleep. Even if he grew up sleeping on the floor... A chair is a little worse, even there, probably.

Merlin was definitely more used to fairly quiet festivities, at least before he came here. Feasts that he attended in Camelot were always pretty private and anything else was outside so all the sounds were a little less obvious and melted together a lot.

So he was pretty exhausted, and this silence was nice.

"We have a lot of things we have to do often," he said idly.
destinedtobeunpopular: (No I don't believe you sorry)

Oh, he was more than glad to take the blame for that. Seeing her happy was the best thing and, really, all he needed.

"Everything?" he suggested, because they basically just had to do everything ever together and it certainly wouldn't hurt to do things more than once.
destinedtobeunpopular: (No that's fine)

"Mm, definitely a part of everything."

It actually sounded very nice. This was very nice too, of course, but he liked taking walks, and he was fairly fond of Phantom. So that worked perfectly.
