It's Rapunzels birthday.

Rapunzel was one of several people in the City that Charlie thought was important. In fact, Charlie'd quite easily say Rapunzel was her best friend. When she heard Rapunzels' birthday was coming, Charlie wanted to do something about it so, after telling several of their friends about it, Charlie spent the last several days gathering what she needed for the party.

There was a cake which Charlie helped make. There was a table covered in other kinds of foods, too. Smaller cakes, candies, sandwiches, fruit and vegetable trays and several kinds of drinks. Some with alcohol and some without.

And this all took place in the rooftop garden of Charlie's apartment. Most of the vegetables and fruits are gone. (protip; they're on the table covered in food). This leaves several kinds of flowers decorating the place. And there were floating lanterns, unlit, set on a table. All of them had been made by various party-goers and Charlie and she'd left a few unfinished in case people wanted to work on those.

Tied to the corners of the table were a few lit lanterns that burned harmlessly. There were also strings of dragonfly lights strung around the area, some of which shift color very very slowly.

Hey! Charlie, is this high enough?

[Setsuna's helping to hang up the lanterns he didn't help make, big smile on his face. It was the least he could do, and to him, apparently, climbing on a step ladder is fun.]

none whatsoever!

That's perfect. Thank you.

[Charlie doesn't much care for heights so Setsuna can hang as many lanterns as he wants.]

Do you think this looks okay so far? I feel like I over-did it.

[Setsuna looks over at the dragonfly lights, the other lanterns already hanging up, every possible area taken up by some sort of light, and shakes his head.]

NAH! Not if she likes this sort of thing. It'll be all shiny. Girls like the shiny, right?

[charring]

She does. The lanterns are significant back home and she's always wanted to see them so...

[Lanterns. Everywhere.]

Thought she'd like them.

The Party

[Setsuna is being as patient as Setsuna gets, but he does want to meet this Rapunzel girl. He came to her party, after all. And hey, anyone else is cool, too. Maybe he's standing in the way of something someone wants. That's typical of him.]

[Casually walking over and putting a hand on Setsuna's shoulder.]

Yo. Didn't know you were coming.

[beyourarmy]

Eh, well, I figured I could help Charlie out. [Right, Charlie had said Kira, and someone else, were bringing Rapunzel later.] And then maybe meet the birthday girl.

[charring]

You'll love her. She's the sweetest person in the City, I can guarantee it. [Charlie grins, heading over to Setsuna and leaning a shoulder on the nearest wall.] Just watch for the girl with the really long, really pretty hair.

Re: The Party

[Rapunzel's birthday so far had been busy. She'd spent most of the day with Kira and Toph, respectively, and so far, it had been a really, really fun day.

Still, she wasn't expecting a party. She threw her own party last year, and it was more for the city as a whole than it was for her. So she's a bit surprised when she's herded over to Charlie's that night...

And that surprise just grows, and her eyes widen as she see's what her friend has done for her.]

The Party

[charring]

[Charlie spots Rapunzel and smiles, watching her friend from a distance. She wanted to give her friend a moment to see everything before heading over to hug her and wish her a happy birthday.]

[Everything is AMAZING. The food, the decorations, the cake, the lanterns...the lanterns...

She's blinking heavily, feeling rather wet in the eyes. At her feet, Zucker barks happily as she smiles at Charlie.]

You did all this...?

[charring]

[Charlie nods, shrugging slightly.] Yeah, well. Y'know. Just a little thing I threw together for my best friend in the entire City. You like it?

[beyourarmy]

[When he spots her, Setsuna wastes no time in going over to her.]

That is the longest hair I've ever seen. You must be Rapunzel, right?

That's me!

[She smiles and holds out her hand.]

It's a pleasure to meet you.

[beyourarmy]

[So...perky. Dammit, he can't help by smile strongly in return. Though he gives the hand thing a large-eyed blink.]

Is that the thing Americans do? I see it in the movies all the time.

Post-Party Clean-up (AKA charlie is worn out and sitting on a lawnchair)

Charlie's first party in ages and it was for someone else. She didn't have a problem with that, to be honest. She'd actually enjoyed it. But now, she was worn out.

She'd cleaned up most of what she could and then decided to find the nearest lawn chair on the roof to settle on, watching the remaining lanterns float above the tables they were tied to.

Merlin of course stuck around to help with the cleaning, and actually continued for a little while after Charlie left. But not very long afterwards, he went up to the roof as well to occupy another lawn chair.

And he looked pretty damn content as he did, letting out a soft sigh. It was much more fun to the cleaning after a party than Arthur.

"Guess you could say that was a success."

Hello, handsome boyfriend!

Charlie had one of the leftover beers in her hand. She totally earned it after the hard work she put in but was just sort of holding it. She looked at Merlin and grinned, reaching for his hand.

"I hope so," she said with a slightly tired sigh. "I think Rapunzel liked it."

The lanterns had been pretty, at least.

Seeing the movement of Charlie's hand, Merlin moved his to meet it halfway, sending a grin her way. He thought it was quite obvious Rapunzel liked it. And, well.

"That's what matters, isn't it?"

[charring]

"Yeah, it is," Charlie replies, turning to look at Merlin. Her fingers lace through his easily, thumb running over his skin. She's grinning, feeling a bit proud of herself.

"And she loved the lanterns." That had been important, that Rapunzel had the lanterns and enjoyed them.

[Seeing Charlie settle down, Ken smiled softly and started to pick up anything that remained, just a few odds and ends, to let her rest. She had, after all, done so much work for this. She deserved a break. And he tried to be really quiet about it, too.]

[charring]

[Charlie's eyes flicked over to her little brother and she smiles slightly.]

You don't have to do that, Ken. I can get that in a bit.

[A pause.] Did you have fun?

[oceantrauma]

Ah, no. [Busted...well, that doesn't stop him. He keeps going. There's not much left, anyway.] You and the others did a lot to set up, and you cleaned up a lot, too. I can do a little to help out.

[A shy nod.] Yes, I did. Although I'm not used to that many people around at once.
