Log: Ongoing (Closed)
When; Shortly after Harry Dresden's arrival
Rating; PG13ish?
Characters; Mercy Thompson (
coyote_walking)
Summary; Harry moves into the beach house
Log;
Mercy gestured to the house as it came into view. "So... this is the house. Pretty big as you can see."
She wondered if he'd comment on the dog doors on all the doors or if he'd just assume there was a dog there - or figure they were for her cat, Medea, once he'd seen her.
"It's really way too big for just one person, but it's my home now and I just couldn't stand to leave it." Not to mention how convenient it was to the wooded area up past the beach where she could run as a coyote to her heart's content.
The hot tub was pretty darn nice too.

He took in the surroundings like someone who was used to checking for danger, for ways to escape danger quickly and for places things could jump out and eat your face off. "Pretty nice place, you must just rattle around it in it." He glanced to the side at her and gave her a self depreciating smile, "Sure you want me anywhere near it? I have a pretty bad history with nice places. Or well... places in general."
no subject
She headed towards the main door. "Just stay away from the toaster and microwave and electric stuff in the kitchen, and the TV and all in the living room. I like having those functioning." Yes, she was teasing him. Mostly.
no subject
"Show me where to avoid and I'll give it wide berth." He promised, not even joking really. He didn't want to break her stuff. He moved behind her, giving her room to do any unlocking or unwarding that might be necessary even as he looked down along the wall at windows that weren't very defensible. Jeeze just look at him. He was turning into a paranoid warden. But then again he'd just fought a war, he wouldn't have survived if he hadn't been ridiculously paranoid.
He tried to let his senses expand, feel for warding on the building. He felt the buzz, it was familiar although it didn't feel quite the same. Maybe some of his older work. He wondered how young the other him had been.

"Right through here's the kitchen, the living room's on the right. My bedroom's just over there." She pointed to the door which oddly enough had a dog door in it as well. "I'd recommend you take one of the rooms on the far end there, whichever you'd like." She moved further down the hall, pointing things out as she went. "Linen closet there, laundry back that way. There's a bathroom attached to all the rooms."
no subject
Ignoring the feeling he followed behind her taking in the sights. And the dog door which ... meant she was coyote more often than the Alphas were werewolves. They hadn't bothered with a dog door themselves. But they did patrols every night still.
En Suite bathrooms. He really hadn't ever lived anywhere like that. Even at Justin's he had to go down the hall to use the bathroom.
"I feel like I'm running down the property value just by being here." He said only half sarcastically.
no subject
She noticed him looking at the dog door. "Oh, and just for the record. I didn't put in all the doors. The guy who built the place did that when I moved in. He wanted to make me feel comfortable and be able to shift when and where I wanted without having to worry about the whole clothes issue."
no subject
"Huh." Well that was thoughtful of him, he supposed. Coyote's must be a little smaller than the wolves he knew because those looked a little shorter than he'd have thought she needed if she was the same size as say Billy who was on the short side for a wolf.
"Maybe it was for him. The wolves I know don't seem all that bothered by nudity." But he obviously hadn't grown accustomed to seeing a bunch of naked people standing around.
no subject
Only 30 pounds, Harry, way smaller than any of the wolves you've known, undoubtedly.
That got a laugh. "Jack? Bothered by nudity? Oh, you have no idea how far off that is!" She could laugh about that Jack being bothered by it, and counted herself lucky that she could separate him enough from the Jack who'd been her lover until he'd been sent home 7 months ago, to do so.
"I grew up with werewolves, so nudity doesn't bother me much. But I do try not to get naked around people who'd be uncomfortable with it. Or who might confuse it for an invitation I'm not making."
She looked around. "It's a bit of an overkill, but I must admit that in the winter it's nice to shift in my room and not out in the snow."
no subject
Harry lives in Chicago and has never seen a coyote in real life. That he can remember so she'll get to surprise him. He looked a little put upon that she laughed that much about the nudity thing. Apparently this Jack was a voyeur of Bob proportions. "Do I even want to know?"
"It would be pretty distracting." He agreed. "And ick, naked in snow. Not fun."
no subject
"And you have no idea just how bad naked in snow can be unless you've had to all but lie naked in it, explaining your business, in a Montana winter."
It still made her shiver, just thinking about it.
no subject
He remembered how bad it was when he was fully dressed and fighting in the snow. He expected he had naked in the snow coming if he got out of here anyway. Mab would likely enjoy that kind of torture. "Why on earth would you do that?"
no subject
"Oh, definitely. There are... many things we don't need to see - or even hear about." The thing with the tentacles... shudder.
Mercy considered explaining how she'd ended up there, but decided it would just take way too long. "It's a really long story," she hedged. "I'll tell you sometime if you really want to know. Suffice it to say I wasn't sure i'd ever warm up."
no subject
"Mmm, yeah I imagine becoming a Mercy-cicle wasn't at the top of your bucket list." Who knew, "Maybe we'll have time sometime to tell stories. Is there a good pub around?"
no subject
It was a nice room
in fully moddable colors and designand, since Jack had been in charge of furnishing as well, all the beds were oversized and therefore probably big enough even for someone of Harry's size."There are a lot of pubs," she told him. "I'm not really a drinker, but I'd be glad to take you out to one of them."
no subject
"Anyone who does drink have a preference on the beers?" He asked curiously as he walked around the room, mentally cataloging it's defensibility.
no subject
She watched as he circled the room. "Anything you need for here?"
no subject
He crossed his arms and looked around the room. "Candles to start, the light won't last long. Maybe a Bunsen burner eventually, and some tubs for storage. I figure I can collect things as I go. It's pretty much how I function, dollar to dollar."
no subject
She was already putting 'fire extinguishers' on her own mental list.
"There are some candles in the storage closet and there may be some tubs somewhere. I can check for you."
no subject
"Storage close, which is.. uh..." He pointed his fingers in opposite directions like the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz.
"So uh... what all do you know about me anyway? I probably ought to know."
no subject
"What I know about you..." Mercy sighed and leaned up against a wall. "That's a tall order. Wizard. Half brother Thomas - whom I dated for a while. In your world wizardry tends to disrupt or take out electronic stuff, which is why I stuck you over here. Tendency to get yourself into trouble. Smart mouth that gets you into more. Good heart. Protective, but considerate about it usually. Funny. Um... not sure what else."
She smiled at him ruefully. "This is hard."
no subject
"You da..." Something falls and hits his head on the way down in his surprise, "You dated Thomas?" There's definitely concern there and even more wariness because what the hell is he doing running around telling people about that relationship. He has to assume she was a very close friend if he shared it. That could be dangerous if it got back to anyone in his own world.
"I have a PH.D in wiseass." He agreed with a grin over his shoulder. He turned away and opened a box, purposely not looking at her. "Mention anything about ... Winter or uh, Red Court?" Or Susan, but he can't really ask that, it's still a fresh wound.
no subject
Mercy didn't know that the brothers' relationship needed to be kept hidden back at their home. Things were so different here. Back in her home she could count the humans who knew what she was (not counting her family) on one hand and still have fingers left over because of the need for secrecy. Here, pretty much everyone knew, or might easily find out.
She considered his question. "I don't think so. We talked some about the different types of vampires from your world and mine, and I know there were different courts, but you didn't really go into too much detail."
no subject
"Nothing about wars or anything huh? I wonder when I was here..." He finds some candlestick holders and puts them in the box.
no subject
She shook her head. "No. Not that I remember."
no subject
Turning he shows her the candles and moves back to his room with them, setting them out where he could fill the room with light at night if necessary. He's not normally terribly reticent about things, especially not with people in the know supernaturally speaking. Unless he gets creepy vibes or it's important not to mention.
Setting up of the room completed he turns back to her, because let's face it, he has nothing else to set up, he'll start collecting stuff for potions when he has money but what's he supposed to do in the mean time? "So... what do you do all day?"
