Charlie was married. Charlie McGee, the girl who couldn't get close to anyone back home for more reasons than she thought fair, found someone in the City to marry and that someone was, of all people, Merlin.

The ceremony itself had been nothing short of stunning, right in the center of Xanadu and even though she won't admit to it later (Except to Merlin because he had the best view of it), she teared up a few times during the ceremony. When it came time for vows, she was nervous, hands shaking slightly but when they were finally announced as husband and wife and Charlie could kiss Merlin, she suddenly felt so incredible about everything. All nervousness was gone and all she could feel was ridiculously happy.

Now at the reception, food and cake courtesy Rapunzel (And the dress, too), Charlie was busy speaking to guests and enjoying one of the most surreal moments of her life.

[ooc: there will be several threads to tag into in the comments, a pre-wedding one if anyone wants to say hello to charlie or merlin beforehand. a post-wedding one at the reception. and there will be one where guests can interrupt merlin and charlie trying to have a moment to themselves.]

[ooc: Nothing fancy. Just Charlie getting ready for her big day. Tag anyone that want's to say hi. She's fully dressed in her wedding gown, I promise. It's just hair, make-up and pre-wedding well wishes. That's all.]

Pepper has to stop herself in the doorway, hands over her lips and almost tearing up.

"You look... so beautiful.

The wedding stuff caught Theo's eyes for two reasons. One he recognized Charlie's name and two wedding. He was supposed to be doing that soon. Except, you know, circumstances. So, he sneaked in uninvited and poked around a bit.

"You must be the groom," he says when he spots Merlin, a lopsided smile on his face.

Charlie looks over from where she'd been straightening part of the dress, eyes on the almost unrecognizable her in the mirror. When she hears Pepper, she grins, also almost tearing up some.

Tell no one.

"Thank you. And hi. I'm insanely happy you're here. Someone has to keep reminding me to breathe because I keep forgetting."

"I can handle that task." She closes the distance between them, rubbing her hands up and down Charlie's arms to smooth out the goosebumps, then looks her right in the eyes with a confident smile. "Breathe."

Charlie's okay with that. Pepper gets a faint laugh out of Charlie before she's hugging the woman with a soft sigh.

"This is really happening, isn't it?"

Unsurprised by the hug, Pepper switches from rubbing Charlie's arms to rubbing her back in slow circles.

"It's really happening. You're about to make Merlin the luckiest guy in all the damn universes."

"Have you seen him yet?" She hasn't. She wants to but that feels like it'd run the risk of him seeing her in the dress and she wants to keep at least a few traditions. "I didn't get to see his suit, not even when it was at home. Oh, my God. He's actually going to be wearing a suit."

And she's actually getting married.

You know, spinning in circles isn't going to help you put that jacket on any faster.

[ having a little trouble finding that second sleeve, hmm? ]

[ooc: because sure why not? meet charlie and merlin after the ceremony before people go to (address at the beach sort of near their honeymoon spot) for food and alcohol.]

I know that.

[ You know what? He's starting over. So he takes the jacket off again and glares down at it. ]

Charlie'd had enough of waiting. She just needed to hear his voice, weird as that sounded. No one was in her dressing room anymore, except for her, so it was easy to sneak out.

The dress, however, wasn't making things easy on her. Nor were her shoes, so they were abandoned halfway down the hall.

There's a soft knock on Merlin's door and then Charlie says "It's me. Don't open it."

...that part sucks.

This wasn't a face Merlin thought as familiar, nothing he could connect to it, so he was just... sort of going to squint a bit, for a moment.

Ah, well.

"Yeah. That's me."

Ah.

Merlin didn't really much understand the big deal about the groom not seeing the bride before the ceremony or whatever, but then, he supposed there was a charm in seeing her for the first time only when she was walking down the aisle. That, he could wrap his head around. So he didn't open.

"Oh. Hello."

He was busy fingering at the suit, anyway. It felt weird.

"I wanted to see how you were doing. Plus, my dressing room was way too quiet," she said with a smile in her voice. "This is really happening."

Where's Pepper? Charlie might forget how to breathe again.

Pepper breaks the hug. "I do, in fact, have a picture of him on my phone." She holds up the device in question, screen facing away from Charlie. "That is, if you want to see it."

"Yes," Charlie says and then waves her hands, nose wrinkling and a nervous look on her face. "No. No, don't sh--" This was a hard decision.

"Don't. It wouldn't be fair." Fuck.

"Sorry," Pepper says, "I shouldn't be tempting you like that. I'll just put this away." She slides the device back into her handbag.

"I asked. Don't worry about it." Charlie adjusts the dress once more, again checking herself in the mirror.

"So, I never told you how Merlin meeting my dad went." Change of topics are good, yes? She needs one. And a drink. It's okay to have a bit of alcohol before a wedding, right?

All she has to do is ask, and Pepper will go get them both some champagne. Or a martini.

"No, you didn't. How was it?"

"It went better than I expected. I mean, I didn't think Merlin was going to be rude. It's Merlin. He's amazingly polite, I think even when he wants to deck someone and that's one of the reasons I love him." Charlie fidgets, shifting on her heels briefly.

"But it went well. I think dad approves. So...that's something?" A sigh, a faint wringing of fingers and then...

"Pepper, is it wrong to want something with alcohol before the wedding? I keep thinking the City is going to pull something last minute and really, that's the only thing worrying me today."

"Yeah. It really is."

He's been having those this is really happening moments for weeks now. They're especially frequent right now.

Charlie smiles a bit, chewing her lower lip briefly. Okay. Stupid as it sounds, she's going to make a hazardous request.

"Open the door just a bit and just put your hand through." She just wants to hold it for a moment. You're marrying a complete dork, Merlin.

"And no peeking."

"That's definitely something. That's something very good."

Pepper laughs a bit at Charlie's nervousness. Not in a mean way, just that she's so adorable. "Sure, I'll be right back. And if those Deities are listening," she goes to open the window and calls out "You'd better not mess this up for Charlie and Merlin, or so help me you'll have me to deal with!"

With that, she pops out of the room and down the hall, looking for a bar somewhere.
