Charlie was married. Charlie McGee, the girl who couldn't get close to anyone back home for more reasons than she thought fair, found someone in the City to marry and that someone was, of all people, Merlin.

The ceremony itself had been nothing short of stunning, right in the center of Xanadu and even though she won't admit to it later (Except to Merlin because he had the best view of it), she teared up a few times during the ceremony. When it came time for vows, she was nervous, hands shaking slightly but when they were finally announced as husband and wife and Charlie could kiss Merlin, she suddenly felt so incredible about everything. All nervousness was gone and all she could feel was ridiculously happy.

Now at the reception, food and cake courtesy Rapunzel (And the dress, too), Charlie was busy speaking to guests and enjoying one of the most surreal moments of her life.

"Yeah. It really is."

He's been having those this is really happening moments for weeks now. They're especially frequent right now.

Charlie smiles a bit, chewing her lower lip briefly. Okay. Stupid as it sounds, she's going to make a hazardous request.

"Open the door just a bit and just put your hand through." She just wants to hold it for a moment. You're marrying a complete dork, Merlin.

"And no peeking."

Okay, that was a bit of a ridiculous request. But Merlin couldn't deny it, and he was definitely grinning like an idiot as he shuffled over to the door and opened it slightly.

"Promise not to peek," he said and slipped his hand in-between the door and the doorway.

He loves her for her ridiculous behavior. She knows it. There's no denying it. Charlie's fingers brush over his for a moment before lacing through them carefully. Her nails have been done and it's weird and new and she's not sure how to move her fingers right now so she's holding his hand softly.

"Just a bit longer. And then it's official." She really wants to peek around the door just a little bit and look him in the eyes but that's a risk, too.

"I may have asked Pepper to bring me something to drink at one point. Oh, and she yelled at the deities. Told them if they screwed up our day, they'd have her to deal with."

Merlin chuckles, and sort of explores Charlie's hand with his fingers. He can tell that she's done something with them, and it seems rather silly, at this point, to get yourself fixed up like that for just one day. But he can also see the reason for it.

And, well, if there is any good reason for it, this would be it, right?

"And us." He wouldn't be very happy about it at all. "I hope you didn't drink much."

She wants to do this right, Merlin, dorky as it seems. Her thumb runs over his fingers and she leans her head on the door, sighing slightly before laughing a bit.

"And us, yeah> definitely us." Hell to pay, and all that. "It was a martini. More olives than alcohol. I don't want to be wobbling too much when I walk down the aisle. Though, you want to know a secret?"

She pauses and then whispers mock conspiratorially. "I'm hiding my shoes in my dressing room. Tell no one." Charlie plus heels times gravity equals loads of falling. She can't handle heels.

Merlin snorts, but he certainly doesn't blame her. He could almost just throw this suit jacket and the bowtie away and settle with just the shirt and trousers because he's not used to them. But that much people will actually see, and he suspects you won't see Charlie's shoes missing.

"I won't," he responds, quietly and almost as if he's suppressing more laughter.

That helps. She feels better when she hears him laughing and she relaxes some more. She's feeling better and can get through this because she knows he's the one she's going home with and the one she's dedicating herself to in front of everyone that mattered.

"I should probably head back to my dressing room before someone comes looking," she says. But she doesn't let go yet.

"Oh. Um...I have something important to tell you about our rings."

He sees walking away is working out. But he's not about to nudge her when she says that, and instead peers curiously at the door as he leans properly against it.

"What?"

"When I went to make the rings with Luke, I asked for something special to be done to them," Charlie says happily. This was so exciting to finally be able to tell him.

"I asked him to make it so if we needed to find each other, for any reason, we'd be able to."

Neat, huh? "I figured, since it can sometimes get unusually hazardous around here, it'd help."

"Oh." He smiles widely, and squeezes Charlie's hand. "That's handy."

Really handy.

Charlie hears the smile, grinning as well and huffing out a soft laugh. Good. He liked it. Not that she had doubts, it was just nice to have it confirmed. She squeezes his hand as well before pulling it away.

"I really ought to get back to my dressing room. They'll come looking. I love you. I'll see you soon."

And with some...no...a lot of reluctance, Charlie turns to head back to her room. They'll be together again in a few minutes and everything will be fine.

"I love you too."

Oh, but he feels a bit as if hearing Charlie's voice was just what he needed. Feeling a little lighter, he closes the door again and goes back to preparing. He didn't have any doubts or anything, but reminders of why he's doing this are always good.
