Summary; The celebrations continue, and the Anonymous regime has summoned guests that Citizens might (not) prove very thrilled to see! As opposed to other Fourth Wall events, all visiting characters will have been invited to the City, or they must arrive here of their own will.

There's so much to do and so much to see in this City of cities. From tromping through Xanadu, long walks along the shore, shopping in the Square, hunting in the forest, meeting a contact in the Underground, or getting as many answers as possible at the Welcoming Center how can anyone decide on just one. In three days time so much can be done!

Shops and restaurants are having specials. Happy hour has become happy days in some bars. This is quite the occasion! When the City decides to celebrate, it becomes contagious. Why not smile and strike up a conversation with a stranger? After all, a stranger is a friend you haven't met yet.

Do you know what the Orion thing to do in this situation would be? [ she doesn't give him time to answer (she also doesn't talk about her people very often, secretive about that by nature). ] Take advantage of it. Seize the opportunity and work it to your advantage. But, that's not the Starfleet way. The Starfleet way is to be calm and collected, to analyze and learn and not freak out.

[ so maybe she's freaking out. it's been a rough year. ]

How would you even begin to take advantage of this situation when you have no idea what's happening? I've been here for three days, okay? Half my bridge crew is here, Uhura is on her way ...

[ He takes a step forward, a hand outstretched as if trying to pacify a hissing sehlat. To be fair, the sehlat would have ripped his head off already and Gaila doesn't look too far behind. Jim can't quite help using a mixture of the soothing way he used to address her and his Captain's Voice to try and contain the petite Orion star from going supernova. ]

Gaila, I don't care what your people would do. I'm telling you, you are going to be alright. You will.

[ she wants to hurt him. hurting him would be the orion thing to do as well, to lash back out at him for using her and make him feel as awful as she had. but she's been immersed in the various cultures of the federation for far too long, has adapted to the starfleet way of life too much to allow the old ways to influence her judgement. even if it is very tempting. her career would be over and she's worked too hard at getting this far to give it up so easily. few orions who've opted to venture down this path have gotten this far. ]

Can we at least sit down until Uhura gets here?

[ She really needs to trust him more. He only has himself to blame for that, though, easing up when the stress gets to her. ]

Yeah, sure. C'mon. [ Nodding to some picnic benches, he leads the way and opts for smalltalk. Best decision or best decision? ] So, Mars. That sounds ... arid.

[ smalltalk is good. she can do smalltalk. smalltalk doesn't involve a mathematical engineer trying to do theoretical physics in her head. ]

We were beaming down to help fix some of their computer systems. The Mars training facility needed the back up, and Admiral Witham thought it would be a good hands-on experience for us.

[hischair]

Is he as much of a tough nut to crack as they say? Because I don't think he likes me.

[ Sliding onto a bench, he chins a hand. ]

[ okay, maybe that was mean... but it was the truth. and witham really didn't like jim kirk. he'd been one of the admirals against him being assigned the enterprise after pike got promoted. ]

[ Mean admirals. Mean Gaila. :( ]

Well, maybe he'll get stuck in here instead of us. Gaila, I need you to alert Starfleet to the anomaly if you manage to get out of here somehow. I think it's circling Earth, snapping us up as we go from whenever and wherever it wants.

Mmm, beacause Starfleet Command is going to believe a cadet -- an Orion cadet. An Orion cadet whose job doesn't involve monitoring temporal anomalies.

[ that wasn't an insult to his request, more a statement of fact. the federation wasn't perfect, and she'd be kidding herself if she said they didn't have good reason to be suspicious of an orion. hell, orions were suspicious of other orions. ]

I'm pretty sure no one who knows you would even consider the fact you're Orion. Will you stop beating yourself up about it? Literally a ton of people liked you at the Academy.

[ Mildly frustrated with her self-deprecation? Yep. ]

[ stop that. that sort of view that turned the speciesist‎ outlook she was used to encountering on its head had been one of the reasons she liked him. she doesn't enjoy being reminded of that positive trait when she's still holding steadfast to her anger. ]

Jim, I say this as someone who used to be your friend -- watch out for Orions.

[hischair]

[ He can't help being a decent human being, sry2say. ]

I will, Christ, I'm not going to go out and fly the Enterprise into a slaving lane. I'm just saying, you're nothing like the rest of them and anyone with a single braincell would realize that.

C'mon, you're the scariest Orion I ever met; I've never seen anyone get dressed up for a night on the town as fast as you could.

[ Offering a smile, he tips his head in deference to her skills. ]

[ a decent, womanizing human being who dates people to hack testing simulations and apologized to the wrong orion. B| ]

I'm just saying, not every Orion is like me or the girl you thought was me. [ yep. she heard about that. she and your orion officer talk. ] And nobody -- not you or anyone else who likes either or one of us -- should use how we carry ourselves or treat other people as an example for our people.

[ yeah, that compliment and a smile is met with a look. ]

[ Wincing slightly, ooooooooh, boy. How did she even find out about that? ]

... In my defense, I liked you best.

[cadet]

[ this face, jim. this face. ]

What, I genuinely did like you!

[ Sighing, he spreads his hands where he's sitting on the other side of the picnic table. ]

I wasn't thinking about anyone but myself, I admit it. I was going to speak to you after the summons, but then we all got fired off into space and ... Gaila, I'm sorry.

[cadet]

And you saved the system, got a starship, and couldn't be bothered to even send a silly transmission to the girl you screwed over in the process.

[ she frowns because, ] I genuinely liked you, too.

[hischair]

I had bigger problems to deal with than just being me.

[ And it takes a lot for him to say that, turning to sit astride the bench so he doesn't have to look directly at her when he does. ]

[cadet]

I know. [ she'll relent on that, because he does have a lot of responsibility sitting on his shoulders. gaila bows her head, looks at the table. ] Still hurt that all I got in terms of a sorry was that note attached to your overrides and a case of mistaken identity.

[hischair]

[ He's never been good at break-ups but this one really does take the vengeance-class, warp core-tripled cake. ]

I still think you're pretty amazing, for the record. I always did.

[ It just ... wasn't important enough compared to other things, sadly. ]

[cadet]

You sure have a funny way of showing it.

[ gaila sits up straighter, lifts her head, and meets those impossibly blue eyes of his. (was blue as uncommon in his species as it was in hers? she never thought to ask or look it up.) ]

So, where does leave us, Captain? [ captain. because whether she likes it or not, he outranks her, and if she's going to be stuck here for a while, she might as well get used to it having to follow his orders. ]

[ Eyes as blue as his? Rare enough, he'd say. Giving a can't argue nod, he looks up when she tacks on a 'Captain' and feels any levity slip away. Damn the City to hell, it's not doing him any favors right now. ]

It leaves me with one more person to get out of here in one piece. [ Glancing away, he looks around for Nyota. ] And it also probably means you're back to rooming with Uhura.

[universaltranslator]

[Speaking of, guess who is running forward and looking around frantically.

Gaila's back. Where is she?!]

[cadet]

[ is that uhura? gaila spots her across the way when she turns away from jim, not having expected to see her old roommate so soon. ]

Nyota?

[universaltranslator]

[That voice acts like a rope, tugging Uhura forward.]

Gaila!

[Prepare yourself for a bear hug, girl, because Uhura doesn't plan on letting you go unless she starts accidentally breaking bones.]
