Summary; There's no legal drinking age in the City, but who says we can't party like there was one anyway?

This party was four years coming. The restaurant has set aside a large room just for this event and on short notice too. The food is plentiful and of various cuisines, with even a large selection of vegetarian options for those who prefer that. But of course, there is more alcohol than one has ever seen because Angela knows the people she invited and knows quite a few of them have liquor in their veins instead of blood. Rule of thumb: more liquid than solids every time.

Everything's set and ready for the birthday girl to make her appearance, so for the time being, Angela's flitting around the place dressed in more subdued colors than usual, choosing black because no one gets to stand out more than Ginny tonight, and socializing with the few guests that have shown up already.

Sadly, there are no strippers. Ginny nixed that one hard.

[He studies this tiny human. You all are strange.]

[ Sad. He's not that tiny. And we are strange? ]

Scott. Scott McCall. Or, Mr. McCall. [ But, it makes him think of his teachers or Coach Finstock. ] You just looked like you were searching for something. [ A slow head tilt in. ] You know Jim?

[logistical]

[He inclines his head in a nod.]

Mr. McCall. [Trying to get him to use your first name is a lost cause, Scott, don't even try.] He is my Captain. You are... a friend?

[Except the way he says it makes it sound more like an accusation than a fact.]

[affectioning]

[ Sob. And now Spock will forever think of Spock as one of his horrible teachers. Or, his girlfriend's father. Ex-girlfriend's. ] Yeah! We're friends. Though, he's better friends with my best friend, Stiles. I'm friends with Dr. McCoy, too. He's helping me out with the animal shelter.

[logistical]

[Spock was a stuffy teacher before he decided to go run around on a starship making sure Jim wasn't getting in trouble so. . .]

[Eyebrow raise.]

I believe you recently acquired a parrot?

[He was a pirate. It was weird.]

[ You're right. Very fitting.

He goes a little red. ] Just for three days. And I never actually had a parrot.

I was in a similar situation, except the bird was quite real.

It has been resolved. The bird is receiving proper care and attention, and will eventually find an appropriate owner.

[At least one who appreciates it saying "Polly want a cracker" all the time.]

If he doesn't let me know. After the animal shelter is converted, it's being reopened. It'll be an animal clinic. A vet's.

[ There are people who appreciate that? Yes. He is proud. ]

[itp: Spock is a bleeding heart and Scott just endeared himself with this act of goodwill.]

Yeah. I do. I um, made a post last week. We're [ shit, what's the word ] refurbishing right now. The remaining animals are currently being fostered. But, once we open up I could totally use help. Thanks! [ See this 1000 watt smile? Spock, you did that, you old softie. ]

[logistical]

[DON'T SMILE AT HIM BOY, HE MIGHT ACTUALLY START LIKING YOU.]

I have no field experience taking care of such animals [sehlats, maybe, but nothing else.] however, your filing system will need ordering.

[affectioning]

[ DR. MCCOY LOVES HIM. IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE YOU DO, TOO. DON'T FIGHT IT. ]

Uh [ So dumbfounded but of course ] Yeah. Yes. Please. Any help you can give. I'll let you know when stuff's ready. [ And now for what's in his hands ] Is that a cake?

It is. [A beat, and then he adds:] Chocolate.

[ Brain short circuiting from the adorable? ]

Aw, great. Ginny'll love it. Hey, do you know if you guys are all still going to the beach?

[logistical]

[If it hadn't, it'd be short-circuiting now because nobody told him anything about a beach.]

Pardon?

[affectioning]

Oh. Jim was talking about getting people together. To go to the beach. I was going to grill. But, it was like, a week ago. So, probably not? [ He was going to grill veggies for Spock, too! ]

[logistical]

[Ah, but then Jim and McCoy had had their fallout, and no beach. Thank goodness. Spock doesn't exactly swim for fun. Or do these kind of things at all.]

That plan has encountered delays. I am certain the Captain will fulfill his promise to... take you to the beach. Soon.

[Tiny awkward.]

[affectioning]

[ Tiny adorable. ]

If not, it's cool. [ He's still smiling. Beaming, you might say. ]

[logistical]

[He just looks at Scott curiously.]

You are not disappointed?

[affectioning]

A little. But, it'll happen another time. There are other things to worry about. Like, the clinic. And another friend of mine got here today. It'll happen when it happens, right? [ OPTIMISM, SPOCK. ]

[logistical]

[He'll never admit it, but that optimism means a lot to him. Even something small, like this.]

Your friend. They are accounted for?

[= 'Are they safe?']

[affectioning]

Yeah. They are. Her name's Lydia. She's over there. [ He points her out, looking like a million bucks. ] She's a survivor.

[logistical]

[His gaze doesn't follow the finger, he is more interested in the way Scott speaks about her than what she looks like. Anyway, he'll meet her eventually.]

She was injured, before she came here? Or upon arrival? Dr. McCoy is highly competent in these matters, he will see to her.
