→This is an open mingle log for any and all players who wish to use it! Just tag your thread, meme-style, with your character's location and any other notes you might think are necessary and have fun.

Log; Where to go first? Misery Square, where so many new arrivals splashdown in the famous Fountain? Look, over there is the Carousel--listen! You can hear the ticking even here (of course you can, even if the Clock is underground, everyone can hear it all the time). If you get lost, there's the Welcome Center. They'll get you oriented. There's all the shops and stores on the square--anything can be had. There's Xanadu, the main park--it has parks within parks within it, even a real Amusement Park. There's the Cathedral and the Library and the Opera House and the Academy, the ring of 12 Apartments (immediately noticeable), the Underground (easily accessible or avoidable via Subway Panic trains) with all its pleasures and pains, the Beach (complete with Lighthouse). Come climb the Mountain (and see the ring the witches of October left behind). Wander the Wilderness (not too far!). There's a Farm to the northeast of the City and lots of rough characters out that way. Be careful. Or maybe you're more in the mood for some fun and games. Head down to the City proper to see that. Or maybe take a moment to search for peace at the Temple. Stop for a cup of tea (plenty of cafes and teashops). Maybe play a game of cards or two at the Casinos. There are Galleries and Shops every which a way. A wild city, a colorful city. Every comfort and problem of every city can be found in this City.

It's a city of Cities. Enjoy.

Welcome Center // Open to All

Just off of the main square, there's a simple brick building with a blue sign that informs the whole of the City that this is the Welcome Center. Come on in, guests! You'll be met with a smile and, just possibly, a free meal. Or cookies. Brownies? Coffee? No, seriously. What would you like?

Visit with the friendly staff, catch up with friends in the cozily-furnished common room, nap in the back room, or just drop in to use the facilities!

[ The Welcome Center - of course. A familiar face wanders in on Saturday, though a few years older than Penny would remember it last being. There's a hint of grey starting to touch his temples (though that won't get much worse), and some stubble on his face. He's also dressed much more casually than typical, in a long sleeved t-shirt and jeans. Too bad he left his motorcycle jacket behind at home - it's a bit chillier here.

The amenities offered by the center are all well and good, but he's come to visit someone here instead. It's been years since he's been in the City, by his count, but it feels much longer ago than that. When he catches sight of her, he can't help but smile. ]

[She's been drifting alone, being thrown out of her element makes her retreat back into herself and wish to be invisible, and speaking to few, going where she pleases, her goal has been more or less achieved. So India's made her way through the forest-she carries her heels so she can step lightly-finding her way to the beach where the terrain is far more forgiving.

It's beautiful, in an alien way, and she drops her shoes for later, walking down to where the waves touch the shore. The wind whips her hair around, and brings a sound she's unfamiliar with-so she's not alone. India snaps her head up to look, to observe before speaking, and the chill of the water is less important than what she sees.]

[ when she stepped off the transport this morning, dax expected to be back on trill. not back on earth — or what she assumed was earth. there were humans all around her, their skin devoid of the telltale markings that made it impossible to mistake one of her kind for a terran native. did she somehow get on the wrong transport that was making a round trip back to the planet she was intent on leaving? it was possible. ]

Excuse me, but can you point me in the direction of the nearest off-world transport station?

[ beverly isn't any better off than emony at this point, but at least she's wearing the telltale signs of a starfleet medical officer, the uniform, combadge, and lab coat giving her away completely. also the pips on her collar. she's also the friendly sort, so when someone turns to her to ask a question she would normally be able to answer, she's quick to try.

however, the sight of those markings gives her pause, her mouth open to answer the question. she closes it quickly, her mind suddenly on someone she had once known not that long ago, someone she had come to care for very much. odan. beverly briefly wonders how odan is doing, how that host is working for the symbiont, and how the trill people as a whole are doing with the secret so widely known.

she takes a breath and finally moves to continue the answer she'd begun. ] I would, if I knew where one was. [ she pauses just a moment longer. ] I hope you don't mind my asking, but... you're a Trill, aren't you?

[ she doesn't sound upset or worried about this fact at all; if anything, she's curious, interested, and a part of her wonders if this trill knows odan. ]

[She's being as stealthy as possible because she knows her City counterpart is now almost as old as she is. (She's actually 27 years old.) They could almost look identical, save for the fact that Ginny Potter has a wedding ring on her finger and is a little softer around the edges after having had three children.

SO YES. Go say hi, if you'd like. But Mrs Potter is going to be hiding out caaarefully so as to not traumatise anyone anymore than she has to. Oops.]

[ It's been a long time since he's been in The City - years that he spent living out his life without any knowledge of that existence which he'd left behind. The recollections aren't precise or clear, but he remembers enough. He remembers people most of all, but as he walks the streets, there's a disarming sense of familiarity that comes over him. He's been here - he spent a long time here, he knows. He also knows that he's overlapping his own stay, that this younger version of himself is still here, before things really started to unravel. House, Cameron... they're here, too. And Chase - he remembers that Chase was from another point in time, though to him it's still the past. After Amber, but before... before a lot of other things. He can't pinpoint when it was, exactly.

It's for the best that he avoids them, he thinks - he'll observe from afar, see them the way they used to be, but direct confrontation doesn't seem like the best idea. Maybe he'll come around on that. Maybe they'll catch him and he won't have a choice. But on his own terms - he's here, and there are others in The City who meant something to him, whose meaning was stripped when he was brought back home. Those are others that he's been given a chance to see one more time, to be reminded of what they meant, to reflect... that is worth something, and its worth is considerable.

So he wanders the City, speaking with those whose faces stir recollection from another world, nearly another lifetime, and does his best to keep his thoughts from venturing too far into darkness. ]

[He looks different than from what she remembers, but she can't help but approach him because he's always been so kind to her. Her voice is gentle, so as to not startle, as she comes up at his shoulder.]

[ His communicator didn't work. Naturally the Doctor had tried to call Voyager immediately after landfall--just after trying to shut down the program. And that was immediately immediately. Not at all after a round or two of karaoke. He wouldn't be standing just outside said bar just now, the music thumping behind him, wondering why nobody was missing him enough to send out a search party. ]

Hm. [ Well, what could he possibly do about it now? They wouldn't leave him behind. Someone would surely come looking, and what harm could it do? He turned back into the bar, waving his hand above his head. ] Maestro! From the top! [ Just one more ballad. ]

[ ah, the voyager arrival standard: attempting to hail the ship and going to war with an inactive, nonexistent simulation. janeway herself waltzed around the place demanding that the computer end program, show the exit, and so on for a good hour before she spoke up on the network and attracted james t. kirk's attention. it was even longer before she accepted the reality of her situation and saw it for what it was instead of some sort of elaborate deception — although, she hasn't quite ruled that one out. not entirely. stranger things have happened.

like finding her holographic doctor singing karaoke inside some bar. she's in uniform, having agreed with kirk's suggestion that they suit up for the weekend while the subspace fractures were active to make themselves more recognizable by any familiar faces that might make an appearance.

she'll just be placing herself next to the stage over here, leaning against it casually while waiting for the doctor to finish the song. she doesn't recognize it. ]

[He's an old hand at visiting, though it's been a while, and as he has nowhere in particular to be, Troy is going approximately nowhere.

He has a guitar, though-- he brought it with him, maybe, or found it here; who knows? It's not your place to question him-- so he's playing. Not busking (because he doesn't like the air of desperation that conjures, so he has no hat out to collect stray candy-colored coins, though he wouldn't say no to lunch or a pack of cigarettes or a record deal), just playing, sitting on a bench or on a curb or on the grass or anywhere he pleases, picking at the strings, occasionally singing, too.]

[During one of the singing sessions, a woman who might stand out just a little (it's the heavy makeup and goth ballerina outfit) stops and listens. Just listens, tilting her head towards the sound of his voice.

He might notice that she was navigating by feel, trailing a hand along fences and benches, or that her eyes aren't exactly focused on anything. This might strike most people as vaguely creepy.]

[ His was the misfortune of a universe that had turned malevolently against anyone with any remaining sense of fun. No room for laughter among the stars. No place in the grand scheme of things for a pity when it came to a poor, imperiled Q. That was why, of all people, he was the one to find himself turfed out into the fountain in Starfleet command red, soaked through from head to toe. It was why when he stood, and tried to step to freedom, he slipped instead, and cracked his head on the stone.

After that, the water didn't seem so bad.

Q, expression twisted into abject misery, one hand pressed into the back of his head, can be found sat slumped in the cold water, feeling quite incredibly sorry for himself. Mortal. Mortal and wet and his head is throbbing and this thing called 'life' is supremely unfair.

[ she draws closer after spotting one of her uniforms, trying to put a name to the back of the head her gaze is transfixed on. she's shuffling alphabetically through a list in her head of everyone who wears command red on her ship when she catches a glimpse of the man's face.

oh. of course. of all the people, it's him. this is what she gets for telling b'elanna that she wouldn't mind one of his visits after the things that've happened in this godforsaken city. ask and ye shall receive.

[ when she'd thought – very briefly, back on mars – that she could do with a nice vacation, finding herself in the middle of an unfamiliar beach, completely alone, hadn't exactly been how she'd wanted it to go. she looks around, gaze momentarily trained on the lighthouse in the distance before she starts walking through the sand, errant pieces of blonde hair occasionally blowing into her eyes with the light breeze.

[ her voice echoes, bounces back to her in empty acoustics, and she sighs.

[ Guess who's leaning over the side of the beach's wall parallel to the ocean, getting a little alone-time? This gold-shirted guy. Squinting through the sunlight, he raises a hand to wave when he hears her calling and shouts back. ]

[ beverly wasn't expecting to get dropped into something like this so soon after something that could be considered one of the worst experiences of her life. she might look a bit worn, but that's to be expected. still, she's wearing her starfleet uniform and lab coat, looking every bit the typical starfleet doctor. for a while, she'll be wandering around the fountain, but eventually she'll make her way to the hospital as a good doctor does. anyone who wants to run into her is more than welcome to. ]

[ Fortunately, it isn't too long after his arrival - and into his careful examination of his surroundings - that one young man catches sight of one person he would definitely recognize in any reality. He's wandering the perimeter of the open area surrounding the fountain when he spots her and heads in her direction. He even calls ahead of him - not quite across the whole square, but when he's within more reasonable earshot. ]

[ hello, cityzens, there is one (1) little half-ktarian girl with forehead ridges wandering around the carousel. she definitely wasn't here yesterday and she doesn't look particularly happy about being here now. she is, however, fascinated with the carousel.

someone want to come explain it to her before she turns to someone and asks: ]

[ there are few things in this universe that can push captain janeway into an instant state of ire, that can anger her past the point of being able to take it in stride. one of those things is messing with the youngest member of voyager's crew, and she is not at all happy to pick up on the combadge signal assigned to samantha wildman's young daughter. it has her practically running from point a to point b, coming to a stop on the other side of the carousel, where she returns her tricorder to its holster.

she walks around the massive amusement park ride until she's in view of the young girl, who is currently speaking with someone she doesn't recognize, not wanting to alarm her. she imagines she's already scared enough as it is. ]

[ she thought that she was done with water.

then again, she thought that she was done with a lot of things, and look what good that's gotten her into. of course her first move is to come out on the aggressive, scraping wet, messy brown hair out of her face as she reaches for - well, just about anything really. her bow, a knife, just something that she can wield. nothing.

...fine, she can work with that. she just has to be clever, smarter than 'them' - whoever the them is in this instance remains to be seen - and she can make it out of this. if there's one thing she's gotten good at by now, it's surviving. despite all the odds (and her best efforts at times) she's still clinging on. best make some use of that. ]

[ later when she's calmed down, and therefore less likely to revert to fight or flight with anyone approaching, she starts to explore. careful to avoid anything that looks too enclosed or bustling, she mainly sticks to the open areas. she pushes to the city limits, skirting along the edge of the wilderness and the sights as close to the perceived safety of the forest as she can manage. there are a few instances where katniss ventures in closer, but every decision she makes right now is careful, slow and cautious. ]

[ but it can't last forever. sooner or later she has to start delving in deeper. whether it's trying to acquire a weapon, fresh food and water, or just trying to make more sense of what's going on, there's too many reasons to leave the safety net of trees and move into the largely strange environment of the city. she's tired from fighting for days and sneaking around for hours, clumsier than she'd like in the presence of this many people and honestly, she doesn't exactly blend in very well. fitted jumpsuits draw enough attention as is without being attached to bruised and bloody teenagers.

that said, she does her best to be polite. she grits her teeth as best as she can and swallows down the bitter remarks that seem to come out of her mouth more often than not these days. it's just like trying to win over sponsors, right? without...the assistance of the whole prep team that made that possible, but still. she can't have gotten this far only to die of dehydration on some strange land. that's not how this is going to go down, not a chance. ]

[ After meeting with Janeway and the Voyager crew, Jim's assuming all bets are off on Starfleet uniforms and that's why Katniss's appearance (bedraggled though she is) draws his attention. He's on the look out for slightly off-balance people, wearing his official gold-and-greys just like he's instructed his people to do this weekend while the subspace fractures are open. The girl doesn't look a thousand miles from what he's used to seeing in the Federation.

He's waiting for a coffee to go from a small duck-in place when he hears her asking for a glass of water, quick blue eyes flicking from head to toe in assessment of the teenage girl; some kind of altercation before she arrived, forced smiles (way too familiar, kid), hair damp. The latter is enough to prompt him pacing over. ]

Hey, are you okay? You look like you got introduced to the fountain not too long ago.

[An older woman with Ginny's bright red hair and bright brown eyes can be found fussing through THE ENTIRE CITY. She'll ask about her sons, her daughter, her husband, and she'll be very sweet and motherly if alarmingly persistent about it all.

And when she finds her daughter, she will commandeer her kitchen and churn out ALL THE FOOD AND PIES for EVERYONE. Get ready.]

Ignoring the lights and pictures depicted, Tony makes a displeased face at the fountain before dipping his hand in the water.]

Ok, so I was about to soak in the hot tub for a while before whatever happened. Unless this is Jacuzziville, I'm going to need some heat and bubbles pronto.

You might catch her window-shopping in the Square, or studying the architecture in the City at large. She stops in the Blue Light for a drink she doesn't more than sip, and strolls through the outer edges of the park. Essentially, anywhere and everywhere, feel free to bump into the Lieutenant.]

[McCoy finds himself in the park, which is a good deal quieter than the busy City streets. A quick trip to the hospital has put him in a sour mood and he's not looking for company.

[ A bearded man is walking the streets near the outer walls of Xanadu in the later part of the evening. He's confident despite his complete lack of direction and landmarks to reference. A minute ago, he could have told you the bagel place with the best lox was on that corner, but no. It just isn't the case now. The fringe jacket he wears has seen better days, in fact its wearer is soaked from head to toe. Another fountain entrance, but determined to find his way home, the newcomer forages on.

Stan squints ahead finding the lack of headlights around rather odd. ]

[Okay, yeah, so maybe he was wandering in the hopes of finding someone he knows from back home. He hadn't actually thought he'd get lucky. That's why, when he first spots Stan, he barely even recognizes him at first. Then he starts staring a little harder, and if the leather jacket with the fringe on it didn't give him away, the beard sure as hell would.]

His mild confusion and freshness probably shows in his aimless meandering, no matter how much confidence he walks with. He doesn't seem overly bent out of shape, and in fact starts wandering into a cafe that caught his eye.

No point in stressing over something he has no control over. Best just to roll with it and enjoy the ride, right?]

[ Al has seen weekends like these happen. It's profitable business, sure, but a man can only see so many outside familiar faces other than his own. Today he has opted to give himself a break. One of the cafes offers a nice reprieve from the enclosed casino.

Maybe it's something unique about the manner in which this guy coffee orders his coffee. It's reason enough to strike up lazy conversation. ]

[Maybe he was working too hard, too much. That was the only logical explanation Jack could think of for winding up in a place that wasn't home. This was obviously a very vivid, very weird dream. So he stood firmly in his spot, a sour and exasperated look on his face as he peered up towards the sky.]

Alternatively, since you can't keep a good Doctor from his beverages, he can be found sipping scorching black coffee in a moment of brief stillness, although his keen eyes don't miss a single thing. ]

[It's been a long time since Hanna's been in the City. And yeah, he immediately forgot his misadventures here when he got home, but it's all coming back to him--landing in the fountain will do that to you, yeah.

But wow, this place has not changed at all. So, he's mostly wandering around, looking for his old haunts (are his dogs still here?), whistling, because yay, adventures in the City again! Even if it's just for a weekend. it's more than he's done in canon lately, that's for sure...]

[ well, if he isn't the proverbial fish out of water. he's caught a few glimpses of people he thinks he knows — or, at least, people he used to know, who aren't exactly those people anymore (none of them are; time and augment shenanigans do that to people) — but is hanging back for the most part, surprisingly as inconspicuous in his in his red and white 2280s uniform as he was in the 1980s. considering he was just standing in a park next to a cloaked klingon bird of prey in that era... this is relatively normal in comparison.

[It's really just his luck to show up in the fountain and to get drenched. The life of Reginald Barclay is one of bad luck and okayish confidence on a good day and showing up in a city fountain just sort of cinches that his day is normal and he didn't like fall asleep on the holodeck or something.
