Summary; The dance is upon us and the deities have done their very best to light up the Square. Students and staff alike have been invited, date or no date. Those who aren't cursed may still come to take in the decorations, the food, the entertainment, and the merriment... or they can take pictures for blackmail when this is over.

"Heh, I guess so." ~~But it's you that I need.~~

"But you know, I'm glad I met you today." And it's hard to speak around the made-up girl because it was really Sakura with Yuuki's name attached. "I'm having more fun with you than I could anyone else."

She blushed, realising that she liked ~~acting like a real teenager and not a workaholic ninja~~ being with him. "I'm having a lot of fun, too. I didn't expect to have fun at all tonight..."

"Wasn't expecting any fun, eh?" He laughed happily before turning a corner, not really knowing where they were heading and just enjoying the time together.

"Well, my friends say I'm pretty unpredictable."

"What's that supposed to mean?" she asked, walking with him further away from the party, and not caring a bit. Ino would get mad, but Sakura didn't care. It was so much better that she hadn't had a date. This way she could be here, with him.

"I dunno. Guess I'm good at surprising people." He jammed his free hand into his pocket while he idly, and unwittingly, started to rub her shoulder with the thumb of his other hand.

"Okay..." She continued to walk with him, wondering idly what the time was. "Tell me about Yuuki."

Well, what could he tell her that wouldn't start to sound suspicious?

"Like I said, we've known each other since we were younger," he explained as he pulled his hand from his pocket and scratched his cheek. "She's beautiful, smart, and she's fun to hang around." There was a digital clock blinking on a building up ahead, but he still couldn't see it as they closed in.

"She keeps me in line, and she's really good at encouraging me. She believes in me, too. But most of all, she accepts me."

"How sweet," she murmured, shyly extracting herself from his hold. "And you doubt she likes you?"

"The girl probably loves you, Naruto. You should go be with her instead of here with me."

It was a slow form of torture that he had brought on his self thanks to his stupidity, all this about the other girl.

The blond whined inwardly to himself as she pulled herself away slowly. "I'm sure she likes me, but I don't think she loves me. And that's alright because I just want her to be happy." He frowned a bit to himself before continuing, "Actually, I'd rather be here with you than anywhere else right now."

A tiny part of her rejoiced, while the majority bristled. "So if she likes you, and you like her, why aren't you back in there, with her, proving that you're better than all the other guys! I may be a retard when it comes to relationships--I mean, trust me, I've only made mistakes in that area of my life--but even I know that you fight for the one you love!"

After a pause, she added, "And not go off with other girls, giving her the wrong impression," in a grumble. There was a bench coming up, and she hurried towards it, sitting down dejectedly.

It was just such a laughable situation. The whole thing was so ridiculous that he could've either cried or laughed, and he chose laughter, a quiet desperate laugh. He's almost sure he could even here that bastard fox laughing at him inwardly.

Standing in front of her with his head down and his hands at his sides in defeat, he stuttered, "Sakura-chan... it's... I just don't know if you'd believe me."

She brought her hands around her again before leaning back to look up at him. "I have a very high IQ, so try me."

He scratched his cheek as he joked, "Yeah, but I don't have a high IQ, so this may sound pretty dumb."

But he was tired of the ruse, and it didn't matter if she didn't believe him or slapped him and stormed off. He was just fed up with the whole thing. "Umm, the girl is really you, Sakura-chan. It's you I care about, but you forgot about me because of this place."

His comment left her stunned, and it was a good thing she was sitting down. "You're kidding, right?" she blurted out. How could he be talking about her, describe a friendship so solid that it would be impossible to forget? Sure, cases of amnesia were not unheard of in the City--the price they paid for such a utopia of sorts, but why would she forget something like that? Someone like him?

"You have to be kidding..." she whispered, feeling small and vulnerable.

"I wish I was," he sighed. "But it is a type of sick joke." Blue eyes flashed angrily as he stared off into the distance."

"That's how I knew your name and your birthday and... anyways, we've known each other for a long time. We're good friends."

"But I don't remember..." she hesitated, then remembered the orange couch. "Or...I don't even... Why can't I?"

The blond sighed once more and sat down next to her. He patted her on the back once before leaning back. "Well, I don't really know how to explain. I'm not good at that."

A laugh echoed out of his chest as he commented, "That was your part of the relationship, explaining things. But don't worry, you'll probably forget everything again tomorrow and things will be... normal again."

"But I...don't want to forget everything again," she mumbled, rubbing her neck. "I- tonight- and the confessio- I...I don't want to forget it."

"I don't want you to forget either. Believe me, that would suck, but I don't know if you will or not. This place is just like that."

"...this is so weird," she blurted, looking away from him.

"Yeah, I know," he replied, crossing his arms over his chest and bouncing his knee.

A little while passes, and she's quiet and thinking. It's not fair that she doesn't remember her friendship with him, when he's obviously such a great guy. That makes her laugh a bit, from the weirdness of this situation, and it's not long until she can't stop herself from laughing.

He jumped a bit at her laughter, caught off guard by the sound and her reaction. "Wha-what are we laughing at?" he asked in confusion, hoping she wasn't making fun of him for some reason.

"This place," she explained through her incessant laughter. "And forgetting someone as cute and nice..."

"Oh," he drawled before chuckling with her. "Heh, maybe you should write that down. I don't think you or Ino would believe you ever said that."
