Log;

Getting out of the City proper was a good idea, best idea someone could have suggested actually. Shalimar was grateful that Kirk actually didn't mind the outdoors, staying around a bunch of people would have really gotten to her right now. At least she'd gotten most of her anger and sadness out last night, that was something, even if her method had left her looking a bit beaten up. But that was one of the nice things about being around Kirk, he wouldn't make a big deal about her being slightly injured, which made it easier to relax a bit.

Not that her mind didn't wander to what had happened yesterday, it did. Even as they walked together looking for a good camping spot her mind was somewhere else, trying to suppress a bunch of different instincts and thoughts that were driving her nuts. So she walked in silence hoping that he'd say something to snap her attention away from the crap going on right now.

Kirk was glad that Shalimar had agreed to go camping with him. He was also more than a little proud of her that she had agreed to it too. Recognizing that she needed to get away was a sign that she was maturing. Kirk knew she didn't need Brennan or anyone else to tell her when she needed to get away from a situation.

"It's getting cold," Kirk said, pulling his coat tighter around him. "I hate the cold. At least it's not an ice planet. I really hate ice planets."

"Freezing my ass off and running from monsters because Spock thought I needed to cool down a bit," Kirk said, with only a trace of bitterness in his voice. The same sense of duty and pragmatism and adherence to logic that had caused the man to send him to the planet were the same attributes that made him such a good First Officer. Kirk held no hard feelings toward the other man for what he'd done.

"Actually, technically, the next time I saw him it was an older version of myself from an alternative future and he saved me from some snow monsters," Kirk admitted. Time travel was really, really weird like that.

"Then not too long after I saw my Spock, I like him beat the crap out of me."

"It was necessary at the time," Kirk said, shaking his head as he remembered back. "Spock was making the wrong decisions and he needed to be relieved of duty. I had to make him so angry that everyone could see he was emotionally compromised so that I could take command."

"Of course it worked," he said, bumping her back as he smiled over at her. "My plans always work. Or almost always work."

"What can I say, it's a gift," he said, smirking over at her. "And alright, there should be a place not too much further that has a decent enough clearing where we can set up camp."

"I think you've seen a lot of them," he told her, giving her a wink. "And I guess if it's too hard for you to do, I can do it."

"You probably shouldn't sing that song," he said, crossing his arms over his chest. "Because I know you can't fly a ship as well as me, let alone better."

"Uh huh, crashing into things? That's what I thought," he said with a smirk before chuckling a bit. "And you think you can ride better than me?"

"Right, it's not so bad because someone else was just as horrible a pilot as you," he mocked, amused at her grumbling. "And I don't get scared by going too fast or too reckless."

"Just because someone else is just as bad as you doesn't mean you're not horrible," Kirk said with a shake of his head. "And from the way it sounds like you drive, I probably would be scared."

"Right, you shouldn't learn how to do more than one thing," he said, shrugging a bit. "If your teammates were incapacitated and it was up to you to fly the jet... hey, it's not your thing to learn.

Kirk couldn't help but grin more. "Some people don't heal up nearly as quickly or as nicely as others."

"Right, I wouldn't know anything about teamwork," he said, giving an exaggerated nod. "The thousands of people I have working under me all just wander around crazy."

He arched an eyebrow. "You mean learn to heal faster?"
