LOG: ONGOING [The Ark]

When; Sept. 29, all day and night!
Rating; PG-13 at most?
Characters; OPEN
Summary; The biggest storm you've ever seen has just broken out across the City. Water everywhere. But don't worry, if you were at the construction site chances are you're on the boat so it's time to get cozy with your neighbors in your new home. Who's 'in charge' you wonder? Well [Bad username or site: tharheblows title= @ livejournal.com] is--as your arkmaster, captain, and host. He's steering that ship into safety for all of you and has only one thing to say to those who've chosen to stay behind in the City: SUCKAS
Log;

[ooc: Here is the log taking place on the ark for all participating characters! Feel free to log whatever you'd like while the ship is at sea weathering the storm. Label threads accordingly for open interaction, group interaction, what have you. And remember, the City is not being washed away (although the view from the ark would be unclear) and network devices will work the same as they always do. Further information on the ark curse can be found here. We hope you all have fun ♥

[Normally Peeta is totally willing to joke. Today is not a normal day]

We can find you something to eat once we find Katniss.

[The lack of humor does not go unnoticed, either.]

I'm fine. You'd know her better than I would, though, so what do you think? Do we start on deck or below?

Above. She hates being confined.

Sounds good to me. Above it is.

[ Katniss stands nearest to one of the windows--if it can be called that, which she guesses it can because what else would you call it? The shutter that covers it with an angle of space between it and the sill is getting rattled under the temperamental conditions but holding. She watches it, breathing in the fresh cold of the storm that so fast turns to a mugginess in the well-constructed confines of the ark. Rue is on board. Cinna. Haymitch she hasn't seen but gave up looking for after the first eight runs through what must have been the ship's entirety. It took her long enough. Her hair sticks in tangled straggles at the back of her neck and the rest loose but damp down her back. Gale is somewhere in here too.

She grips the square cut of wood hard enough that she is fortunate it's well sanded; there would surely be splinters otherwise, not that she hasn't had worse of course. Peeta surely made it on board. She saw him in the mess that was getting everyone on but couldn't locate him once the stupid thing had gone fully adrift. Finnick she did not spy but she somehow thinks he is too survivalist to not have fixed his way on.

Unless this is a trap.

This has only occurred to her now, but thinking on it makes her feel more and more inept by the second. Stupid. Stupid. Shouldn't she remember to think like this?

Months of City habitation might have softened her in ways she wasn't aware of until now, which is both disconcerting and somehow invasive.

Again she scowls before neutralizing her face and taking a deep breath, preparing to turn around, head back into the fray, and find Peeta. The last thing she needs is for him to mysteriously end up overboard. She doubts swimming lessons with Finnick have gone that well. ]

[Peeta is looking, knowing that Finnick is following and at this point is probably annoyed.

When he finally spots her, it's because he zeroes in on her scowl, and the relief lifts the burden of worry off his chest. Her face is almost funny as she turns, and he moves quickly enough, forgetting Finnick behind him]

Katniss!

[identity profile] protects-her.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Though Finnick can't profess to be quite as ecstatic as Peeta is when he spots Katniss--but, by the same token, he's not in love with her, so it's only to be expected--he is relieved to catch sight of her. So when Peeta breaks away and hurries over, Finnick lets him go, following behind at a more relaxed pace. Might as well give the two of them a minute before he walks in on it and risks setting off Katniss's distrust with his presence.]

[identity profile] aimandfire.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ Her scowl, already thinned to a less telling line actually softens at the sound of Peeta's voice, not out of affection as far as she's concerned but certainly from relief. He has to be okay; this is a rule she made some time ago without meaning to, back in the arena when leaving alone seemed as bad as death, possibly worse. The release of a breath would be audible but for the storm outside raging on.

She meets him though, not quite halfway. Part of her wants to reach out to him, but as has become habit lately more than before, part of her now holds back too; the latter wins out, an awkward half-intent in the air between them. ]

I saw you, before...during the boarding.

[ Naturally she spots Finnick not far behind the blond and arches a brow. ]

But I didn't see him. You weren't both---?

[ They seem an unlikely pair, despite both being Victors, both being of Panem, both...

Okay not so unlikely. But still, even Katniss will admit Finnick is hard to miss. They can't have boarded together or she would have seen the District 4 Victor when she spotted Peeta before. ]

[identity profile] risetwice.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
[She might not be into reaching out, but Peeta's not restraining himself. He moves towards her and puts his arms around her shoulders - it feels amazingly good, after all that, after all that worry, and then he lets go a moment later, knowing that she's probably not all that comfortable]

I tried to find you. I got lost in the shuffle but...I found someone to board with, not Finnick, he found me later.

Are you here alone? With Haymitch? Rue? Gale?

[identity profile] protects-her.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
[And now at last Finnick makes his way over, maintaining a comfortable but friendly distance and offering Katniss a slight nod in greeting.]

Well, that's three of us, now. Hi, Katniss. Enjoying the ride?

[identity profile] aimandfire.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
[ The embrace shouldn't surprise her, but somehow it does and with that comes the surprise of how easy it feels to return it suddenly, her face pressed to his shoulder and breathing in what seems to be warmth itself, not muddled and humid like the ship air but a comforting kind of surge.

As quick as it happens, it's over though, which she both hates and is appreciative of and tries not to show either. ]

Gale. I boarded with him. Rue is here. I saw her too.

Cinna must be here.

[ Her tone says don't argue that, don't argue it for a second. ]

But I haven't seen Haymitch.

[ She is about to add that that doesn't mean he's not there when Finnick joins them properly. Now then, Finnick seems to treat everyone like he knows them, which Katniss dislikes anew every time, more so in this case because of the continuing knowledge that there is more to be understood than she does due to time differences. That's not Finnick's fault technically of course. ]

Not as much as you are, probably.

[ Which she isn't serious about, but at least the familiarity of being on a boat at all is certainly Finnick's here. ]

[identity profile] risetwice.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Peeta's hand drifts to the small of Katniss' back - he doesn't quite touch her, as his hand is rolled into a bit of a first. Why couldn't he just let this go?]

I didn't bring any food with me, I didn't have time.

[But he looks a lot calmer]

Well with both of you here, if I fall overboard at least I won't drown.

[identity profile] protects-her.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
They might be together, Cinna and Haymitch.

[It might just be wishful thinking, but it's not as though they don't have plenty in common--some of which Katniss and Peeta are aware of, and some of which they're not. "Members of the rebellion" is one distinction he's sure no one else would have taken up before them.

But separate or together, Cinna and Haymitch can take care of themselves. Right now, his priority is keeping an eye on the two Victors in front of him--and preferably, keeping them together, too.]

What do you think? Want to go looking for the others?

[identity profile] aimandfire.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
It's fine. I'm not hungry.

[ She frowns at the next comment though. ]

You won't fall overboard, period.

[ What will happen though? Impossible to guess, but for now what Finnick proposes is as good a suggestion as any, and while selfishly Katniss is more comfortable here, she ultimately prefers to go as suggested. Find Gale again wherever he is, find Rue, find Cinna if he's on board--again she tells herself that he must be--and Haymitch too on the off-chance that he's somewhere here too.

A pause later, she nods to both of them, not bothering to try and put any more distance between them; they'll all be crowded together as soon as they head back down anyway. ]

We should.

[ Not 'I want' but it says enough, and if it didn't for some reason, Katniss moving past both of them in the direction they came from likely does. ]
