Log, complete
When; Monday 18th, afternoon
Rating; PG
Characters; Aya (
onceaweiss) and Umi (
soulofocean)
Summary; After breaking free from the Saw trap where they were stuck together these two decide to be the worst hospital patients in the history of The City.
Log;
They'd told her he was alright. That he was evolving fine -- extremely well for the kind of wounds he'd taken. But ask her if their word was enough. Umi felt each hour she spent stuck in that bed was an eternity. The Network device she'd all but bullied the medical staff into letting her have back wasn't doing much to fix this. Instead it kept her restless, delivering a parade of awful news from that nightmarish weekend. Hearing Aya's voice had helped a lot, but it still wasn't the same. The Water Knight understood that if he felt as weak and wobbly as she did it might well take a while for them to see each other in person like she needed them to.
The nurse wasn't cooperating even under the threat of getting soaked, chilled to the bone, or even yelled at. That awful curse had kept Fuu away since Sunday night, and in any case Umi doubted her sister could have done much about the situation.
...But she swore that if it took more than an hour longer all bets were off. She didn't care who she had to coerce into it. She WAS going to check on Aya even if she had to fight the entire hospital security to drag herself to his room. All caution be damned. After that hell of a weekend she needed to be sure of this more than she needed any further medical attention.

'No. You cannot get up yet.'
However, Aya had decided that he was getting up. Now. Keeping an eye out for nurses and doctors, he sneaked his way down the hallway, using the wall for support when he needed it. Finding Umi's room was easy. And when he did, he went inside with a smile and headed straight for the chair by her bed.
"Umi..."
no subject
She gasped in a rather silly fashion at seeing Aya walking in. Just as she'd been plotting to...! But had the darn doctors finally gotten a clue...? Did it matter?
"Aya..." No, getting up to go to him wasn't a clever option, but she could care less about being clever at the moment. Even if he was headed for her bedside chair. "You're-! ...Are you okay??"
no subject
"I'm alright. I'm healing well since my body is used to repairing itself from injuries worse than this."
Like when he'd been slashed with a katana across the chest or when he was stabbed with a knife in the stomach. He could handle this. "At least I can see that more than your lungs are doing well."
no subject
He was on his feet. That... meant he was fine, didn't it? Like he was telling her?? This wasn't some sort of Hikaru thing in which he was just pretending to be alright not to have her-! ...Oh, enough of that.
"Aya!" At least he'd been kind enough to put himself within arm's reach. That made putting hers around him and just... staying there... not that she had too much strength for that hug... far easier. "You really..."

It was more than worth it to come see her despite the rules. True the doctors, nurses, and Ken would kill him for this later but he really didn't care right now. Umi was more important to him than all of those details.
"I thought I should come before you hurt yourself coming to me."
no subject
She had to chuckle where she was sort of slumping against him like a moron. But Umi didn't feel like she was ready to let go just yet. "You heard that, huh. Then that proves you're not really as far away as I feared. Not that that was going to MATTER."
She straightened up a bit to smile at him. Her eyes were acting up, too. Tearing. Stupid sedatives. "I was about to head down there myself!"
no subject
"And currently I'm right down the hall from you. That was how I knew where to go in order to find you."
no subject
There were no objections on this end, because her arms had sort of fallen to a numb sleep as they were. Umi just made sure there was enough bed on Aya's side for him to make himself comfortable: this wasn't the biggest bed she'd ever been in and she hated it down to the last pillow already.
Something tickled the back of her mind at the way he moved, though. She frowned, looking him over. "...You really shouldn't be up yet, should you?"
Not that she wasn't sure she wasn't but was going to pull that stunt and visit him regardless...
no subject
Maybe it would convince the idiots that they needed to be in the same room. If nothing else, it would be worth a shot.
"I'm fine though. I promise. Nothing is strained and I'm not bleeding."
no subject
Umi stayed silent for a space. She knew well enough that she was supposed to stay put and rest for her own sake and that of all the people who cared about her, Aya included. But it wasn't like she'd have been able to stay calm and recover if she hadn't confirmed he was doing good. Aya had felt that way too, that much was obvious.
She bit her lip to hold the big sister lecture from coming and shook her head. "...I'm not going to say you should go back. You just found the way to fix this. The OBVIOUS way." She tightened her hold around him a little and frowned angrily. "Not that these people had half the brain to figure it out themselves."
no subject
"It will all work out. I promise it will."
And since he wasn't one for breaking promises, he would make sure that one was not broken for any reason.
no subject
"Aya... everything that happened... We worked it out. I had not doubt we would!" In fact, she was rather sure that without his cooler head to solve the puzzle she'd have been lost to that creepy trap and likely gotten herself killed... by roses... Jeez, the irony grated. "But there were so many others. All at the same time..."
no subject
"So, do you want your bed closer to the window or the door?" He gave her a warm smile as he looked down at her. Even sitting here on the bed, he was the taller of the two.
no subject
At Aya's next words she chuckled. "You think that next to the door would make the nurses think I'm doing that just to escape?"
no subject
Aya glanced over at the window. "I don't think they'll expect us to be using the window, after all." Down the hall, he heard someone shout that he was gone. He couldn't help but to smile a little more.
"I think they found out I'm gone."
no subject
So what if her words were in jest. Aya might be able to tell what was behind them. He was close enough to see how Umi immediately assumed the demeanor she would were she about to face one of the monsters she usually fought instead of just a bunch of inconsiderate medics. Her jaw was set, her eyes were stormy. She'd have hold onto him a little tighter had she owned any more strength for that, in a very See if you can take him away fashion.
The ruckus that started down the hall made it clear it wouldn't take long for them to find Aya.
"Let them come." Yes, that voice sounded very much like the one she used in battle, only with a touch of sarcasm. "Let's see how long until they figure out where you went..."
no subject
He'd see to that.
"Considering how we've been talking about each other, I don't think it's going to take them that long to figure out I walked myself over here."
no subject
It wasn't something she was ready to forgive and IV or not, post-surgery rest or not, there was going to be a lot of violence involved if they tried to gainsay their decision.
"I'm ready to deal with them. If yesterday's thing didn't make enough of an impression maybe they need a reminder."
no subject
And sure enough, a nurse ran over and popped her head in before shouting out into the hallway that she'd found him.
"And what did I say?"
no subject
There came the army of jerks she'd had to deal with earlier. Say, she even recognized most of these faces. Umi wondered if these were the lucky people who'd been shoved with looking after the "problem patients" until they got rid of Aya and her for good.
A single icy glare had the staff stop dead at their door.
"Timely, people. You can just start making this room available for two."
no subject
Naturally there were some protests. This wasn't his room. He should go back.
He shook his head slowly.
"No. I would like to be where I can keep an eye on Umi."
no subject
Just go figure, these people believed they were still entitled to keeping her on edge! Umi couldn't tell what was more vexing, the complaints about the obvious solution to their lodging problem or the way the doctors were conferencing among themselves in scandalized tones of voice.
"You heard him. I want to keep an eye on him too." Just so that the whole thing wasn't left to sound like Aya would be the only one doing the looking after. She let go of him for the first time since he'd arrived just to cross her arms. "Think about it! It's not THAT much of a pain, right? And it'll spare you the need to be on constant watch to make sure I'M not the one who wanders off to see him next!"
no subject
"You'll keep us both in our beds and we will recover faster to be out of your hair."
They'd certainly be able to rest knowing that they could see each other. That was saying something when it came to the two of them. Perhaps he should have said Umi was his 'sister' sooner.
no subject
...Really...
Umi wondered if her peeved stance had faltered. She shouldn't have felt her heart skip a beat, then start racing again at twice its normal pace at Aya... so openly... And even with what she knew about his real sister...
Her raise of eyebrows at the staff made her next words almost redundant. "See? Doesn't that make perfect sense to you?"
It was silly. She was Aya's sister. He was her brother. Blood didn't matter when feelings were involved. And even so, they'd both shed as much together during that curse to already consider each other a blood sibling.
no subject
Like he would Aya if he could see her...
One of the doctors gave the order to start fixing the room up to include another bed and he looked at Umi.
"I think we won."
