Xanadu is buzzing this afternoon with with food stands and booths with games to play and trinkets to sell or win. There are a couple of stages where people play instruments, sing, juggle, and otherwise entertain.

People donated money, time and materials to bring everything together. Some areas are very polished and professional while others have more of a homemade touch, but it blends together nicely and there is a little something for everyone. A little further from the main attractions there is space for relaxing or playing a game of frisbee or catch.

As the evening settles upon the City, paper lanterns light up an outdoor dance floor and a band plays a range of music from romantic to spirited. There are also tables set up for those who would prefer to star or people gaze.

[ Awww, cute. Ariadne is still sketching, but this time it's the two of them -- Jast and the infant. It's fairly quick, more out of necessity than anything else, as she's not sure how long her subjects will stay there. ]

[auguria]

[The baby only has so much stamina for dancing, and Jast is very acutely aware of his partners needs. Before the boy can even think about fussing, Jast presses a kiss onto one of his warm cheeks, scooping him up to be returned to his mother. She says something nice to him, but all Jast can do is flush and shake his head, backing away. He goes to perch on a picnic table, away from the crowd. He's a bit too shy to dance with anyone else, but he certainly likes to watch.]

[ She gets a better look at his face and the details of his clothing when he's perched on the table, and so Ariadne continues her sketching. His eyes get a few final touches before she tucks her pencil behind an ear and stands. She wants to show him. ]

[auguria]

[He looks up at her before he really should have taken notice of her, but... that's just Jast, and he watches her wind her way past the crowd to him, tilting his head with an inviting smile.]

Ariadne.

[boutant]

[ She smiles back, but doesn't say anything until she's closer. ]

Hello, Jast. I have something to show you.

[ She takes her sketchbook then, turning it around so he'll get the best possible look at what she drew. ]

[auguria]

[He gives a delighted little coo, which turns into a flustered little twitter, nose going a bit pink.]

So clever.

[He looks at her from beneath the messy hair that's fallen across his face.]

Hmm, you... practice? Yes?

[boutant]

[ That is precious. ]

Thank you.

[ There's a nod. ]

I'm an architect, back home, but I like to draw things other than buildings for fun.

[auguria]

[He tilts his head. He knows what an architect is, but... It's something that holds a much different connotation to a boy who lives in the woods. To him it is more like an orchestrator. A dreamer. He happens to know one of those is particularly apt.]

Are... y-your drawings, hm, created?

[He means does people build them.]

[boutant]

Mmm, not back home, not yet. [ Outside of within the minds of other dreamers. ]

Here, though, yes.

[auguria]

[His eyes light up.]

Where?

[boutant]

For small things, we have a few things where I work at City Solutions. A man named Cinna, though, the front of his shop was destroyed recently and I'm helping him out.

Apparently I helped design it in the first place, though I don't remember. [ Something that bothers her far more than she lets on. ]

[auguria]

[He is listening to her absolutely raptly.]

The city, hmm, [A small giggle.] like your t-talents.

[boutant]

I hope they do, at least.

[ She certainly likes her talents. ]

[auguria]

[He beams at her eagerly, and then... remembers that important thing he needs to ask. He reaches into the back pocket of his grass-stained jeans, pulling out his little device.]

Hm... I. Ariadne? [He's holding the thing like it's some kind of holy artifact, delicate and easy to break, cupped in his palms.] This. I... have seen, mmm, the f-faces? And voices. But I can't...

[He gives her an apologetic look because he knows he is tripping all over himself trying to explain.]

U-understand? This.

[The dastardly thing.]

Hmm?

[ She shifts slightly, turning toward him more when he says her name, only to see his device. Oh-- ]

I can explain it, if you'd like.

[ Which, well, seems to be the reason he's brought it up. She shifts again, pulling her own device out of her pocket. It's not held anywhere nearly as tenderly as Jast is holding his. ]

I'll show you what to do using mine, and then you can try it using yours, okay?

[auguria]

[He tugs her to sit next to him on the picnic table so he can curl into her side, peering over her shoulder at the thing in her hands. He is, in fact, a full foot taller than her, the ridiculous lanky thing.....]

[boutant]

[ Ariadne's used to people being taller than her; she's only 5'1", after all. She glances up at him with a slight smile before going to switch her device on. ]

Here's how to turn it on.

[ And a pause to make sure he can do it. ]

[auguria]

[He turns the device around in his hands several times, looking at it curiously, but he spots the button. He had pretty much just been poking at it until something happened, up until now.]

Hm.

[He smiles, glad that she's willing to be patient with him while he figures this nonsense out.]

[boutant]

The faces -- that's the video setting.

[ Another button press, and she turns her device slightly, tapping it. ]

There's a camera here, see? It records your image so people can see it. There's a microphone built in, too, so people can hear you.

[auguria]

[Jast understands cameras and microphones, he was born in the 70s, however...]

How... is it so small?

[boutant]

They're about this size where I'm from. Scientists have made them smaller but still effective.

Of course, these could be magic, too. I'm not actually sure.

[auguria]

[It's been so long since he really paid attention to technology. He had left civilization when he was 18, that was 79 years ago. He wonders if they're like this in his own world and he just hasn't noticed...]

A little magic.

[He thinks... maybe he could alter its form, if he tried, but he's concerned with breaking it, as much of the magic in this place is not known to him. He would rather swallow his pride and be taught how it functions, than have to swallow his pride and apologize for ruining it.]

[He doesn't really mean to give the little warble that he does, but he's not very good at hiding his emotions.]

It is... difficult? W-when I can't see.

[He gets even more nervous about trying to speak this language that he can't really speak...]

[boutant]

Well, you don't have to use it. [ She's not sure why she does it, but she shifts to touch his arm. ]
