[Spock points to a smallish blue bucket.]

I have run out of decorative objects. Would you mind locating suitable shells, and seaweed?

[affectioning]

Nope! Be right back. [ He grabs the bucket and takes off further down towards the water, crouching down and finding shells where he can. ]

[logistical]

[Well. That's sure going to be a thing. Is Scott running a bit faster than normal humans should be able to? Spock can't quite tell if that's just his enthusiasm.]

[When Scott returns, Spock is crouched over a tower, daintily carving a balcony onto it with a spade.]

[affectioning]

[ Setting the bucket down, he crouches before sitting down on the sand altogether. ] Dude, this is... really cool.

[logistical]

[Oh.]

[So get this. Nobody really ever thinks anything Spock does is cool. It's robotic, neurotic, borderline obsessive, abstruse, and/or downright creepy. Jim thinks certain things are cool sometimes.]

[Spock offers Scott a slightly odd expression that might've been a smile in another life.]

Sure. It doesn't look easy, though. Not that I only do easy things. I don't. [ But Spock makes it look easy. ]

[Scott constantly hits Spock's teacher buttons.]

[ Scott watches with intensity, remembering even subtle hand movements. ] Can I try?

[He gestures.]

[ With a steady hand, he tries to replicate. ]

[Spock watches him, and nods approvingly. He's doing a great job.]

[ I would like to win an award for most succinct brackets.

Carrying on. He moves his hand, soft, but firm as he attempts to shape. He's grinning. He looks to Spock for approval before handing it back to him. ] Cool.

This? No, we live a few hours from the beach. I haven't been there -- probably since my parents were together. [ He gets quiet, remembering that time. That'd been a good day. But, good days were few and far between then. ]

[logistical]

[Awkwardness isn't something Spock deals with very well, but he does know how to shift it away from the difficult topic. One doesn't simply walk into Feelings Land.]

Where do you live?

[affectioning]

Beacon Hills, California? It's up north. You live on the Enterprise, right?

[logistical]

Yes, but I stayed in San Francisco while at the Academy.

[See? He kind of knows what California is...]

[affectioning]

No way! [ A beat. ] Is it, like, as gay friendly in the future as it is now? Or, then? Was? [ Ugh. But, Danny was talking about San Francisco at one time. ]

[logistical]

[Spock has to stop and legitimately consider this question, because he doesn't automatically have the data necessary to answer it.]
