Yes, but only if you would like to talk about them. Some people miss their families less when they talk about them; others, more.

[Not that Pavel enjoys hearing about homes solely for the psychological benefits of the talkee. There's a certain joy in hearing about places in other dimensions, and the people and family who live in those other places and live lives just like anyone else. It makes the multiverse feel smaller and home a little less distant. (He is also incurably curious. This is most certainly a factor.)]

California... near San Francisco? [Forgive his geography.] I am sorry that your parents were not so attentive. I like to think that they are usually busy or worried rather than disinterested. Dogs are never disinterested. They would never replace parents, that is good that you had a dog.

Closer to LA, really. Southern Cali instead of Northern Cali. And actually, when it really counted, my mom was there. [The bruises throttling bruise on her neck has faded away, but that doesn't keep her from momentarily touching her throat.]

What about your family?
candothat: (It's the plot's fault)

Then you had your dog and a parent who was there when necessary? Friends also, I hope?

[He thinks nothing of the subtle gesture, even if it doesn't go entirely unnoticed.]

Eh. My parents were very busy--my father more so after my mother died--but they loved each other and they loved me. I cannot complain.

Oh, both of my parents were around. I lived with my mom in the house, and my dad moved out. I'm sorry to hear about your mom, though. How old were you? Do you remember a lot?

But your father was available, still, or did he move far?

[Guess what, Lydia. Of all of the people Pavel has known, you are the very first to ever inquire about his mother.]

I was eight, and so I remember a lot. Mostly spending days with her while my father was working. All good things.

He was physically close, he stayed in Beacon Hills. But still kind of distant, if you know what I mean. He tried. He used to do things like show up for parent-teacher night at school. I'm glad you have good memories of your mom.

When did you know you wanted to join...Starfleet, that's what it is, right?

What about for holidays? Were your parents there for you then?

Starfleet, yes, and I cannot say for sure. Since I have been old enough to play with toy shuttlecrafts, I think.
