Lux was decorated and ready to go. It was just waiting a certain birthday girl and her friends.

"Good!" Tosh laid her arm around Luke's back and hugged him. "Did you know that he was so sly he managed to find out my favorite sort of cake, without me even being the slightest bit suspicious?"

"I told you he's sneaky." Grin. "What kind of cake?"

"I'm not going to disagree with that!" Tosh grinned back. "Black cherry, with whipped cream and fruit on top."

"That actually sounds pretty good!"

"Have I fed you anything yet that wasn't?" Tosh asked, mock-indignant. "It's lovely, really. Very light, and not so sugary that you can't taste the real flavor."

"I meant in general," he said, giving her shoulder a squeeze. "I don't like most sweet things. Except people."

"I know, but I do think you'll like this. Whipped cream isn't as sweet as most cake icings. Plus, you know, you can always just pick the fruit off the top," she teased. "Did you just call me sweet, Luke?"

"I do believe I just did."

"I afraid I'm going to have to hug you again for that," Tosh said solemnly. "It can't be helped, I'm sure you understand."

He rose his eyebrows and gave her a semi-serious look in return. "Well, if it's a requirement of the party, then yes, I suppose I can live with that."

"You're very brave. I'll make sure everyone remembers that." Tosh bit the inside of her cheek to keep from grinning, and then oh-so-seriously reached up and hugged him again.

And so Tosh gets another squeeze. "Want to get some of your birthday cake, then?"

"Yes, let's," Tosh agreed. "Can't let all of Ianto's work go to waste, and it looks too good to let it sit for long."

She took Luke's hand and pulled him over toward the table with the food.

He went with her, smiling softly. Everything looked good, but he let Tosh pick everything out for him, since most Earth food was still beyond him - he just ate what people put in front of him, mostly.

And because Tosh knew that Luke didn't care for greasy things, or overly sweet things, she put him together a plate of whatever she could find that was light and simple.

And a piece of black cherry cake, although she made sure it was a small one.

He smiled gratefully, because he only recognized the salad. And the cake, of course.

"Want to sit somewhere?" he looked around, scoping out the rest of the party-goers, some of whom he recognized, some of whom he didn't. "This is quite the turnout."

"Oh yes, please," Tosh agreed, nodding. "This is... a little bit overwhelming, you know?"

Not that she wasn't enjoying it, because she absolutely was. But a little quiet time sounded really appealing.

He put his free hand to the small of her back, walking with her as they found somewhere to sit - a little out of the way, where they could observe the party. People smiling and chatting, all of Tosh's friends.

"I do know. It's strange, being so involved, huh?" he gave her a bit of a knowing look.

Tosh smiled up at him when Luke put his hand on her back, and sat down in the quiet corner they found, resting her plate on her knees.

"It really is. Usually I'm the one watching, getting things done so everyone else can do their jobs. Not really used to being the center of attention like this. It's nice, but it's strange."

"I think you deserve it. You're a good friend, and this shows how much being so genuine about that sort of thing means to people."

"Thanks," Tosh replied, letting the gratitude show in her expression rather than trying to put it into words, when she wasn't completely sure how to express how she felt about the evening anyway.

"I am never going to forget this."

"You won't have to," he said, the confidence in his voice understated, calm, as he picked out a particular vegetable he liked from his salad. "You'll go on making more things to remember."

"Yeah, I think I will," she agreed. "But this one's going to be hard to surpass. I wish there was a way to take pictures of memories, you know? Keep a little souvenir so even when they start fading, you've got something that stays fresh always."

He smiled, feeling something similar - about another memory. Something tucked away...

"I don't think you'll have a problem with that."

"No, probably not." There were other memories Tosh wished she had reminders of too, but those were just as unlikely to fade as this one.

"Pretty nice way to end a week, isn't it? Spending the evening in a room full of happy people."
