To hell with being sensible and responsible. That's what they talked about last time, how they both grew up too fast and now they deal with things the way people much older do. Bucky hates it in a way that sets his teeth on edge, that made him burn the picture of her brothers with the flame of a match. He meant to come by sooner.

Work caught up with him though and it's only now with the rare evening off that he comes by her office. He's got a bottle wrapped in brown paper and tucked into his leather jacket, two glasses in his pockets because Ginny is a classy lady and he's not gonna make her swig out of it like he would. ( Because Bucky never had class, what would he do with it. ) The shop's closed but not locked so he lets himself in, takes the steps to her office, calling out as he goes.

"You better be in here Weasley, I come bearing gifts."

[ He laughs, a snort of sound. ]

[She eyes her set aside glass and picks it up to tip the amber-coloured liquid to the light, lips tugged in an already-hazier smile.]

Especially if we keep going like this. Might just doze off or snog the first stranger I see.

You know, for someone who's practically my older brother, you're doing an awful job at being ridiculously overprotective.

[Maybe this is the first time she's said that out loud, calling him just as good as family, but she's loose and pleased and warm.]

[ The smile she gets in return is genuinely pleased, a warm and crooked thing that is completely James Barnes. Before the City his only family had been Steve - now it's different. ]

Hey, no. You're a swell dame. [ Hear New York and the forties take him back the more drunker he gets. ] You don't have'ta be alone. But I reserve full rights to punch any jerks in the face.

[She eyes her glass again and thinks, To hell with it, and takes another drink and it goes down smooth and warm and Bucky, do not call her out on when she starts to flush and turn the colour of her hair. It’ll just make her blush more.]

But I don’t have rotten taste in who I fancy. [She nods at him, grinning.] Obviously. So I don’t think you’ll need to punch anyone so much as threaten anyone. For… I don’t know, honour. Or whatever.

Threaten I can do. [ A smirk. ] Pretty well too. So if anyone shows an interest, let me know.

[She shrugs, taking another drink and feeling it somewhere in her shoulders, muscles loose and buzzing.]

You're going to threaten any potential boyfriend I get.

[ He pours himself another. ]

Hey, it worked in my day. [ Unless you were James, actually. ]

[Because it was always the wrong bloke somehow. She takes another sip, watching him.]

[She slouches back in her chair, tipping it back and gaze to the ceiling.]

Just... I don't know, Harry and I never broke things off, he just went home and he came back once and told me I didn't have to wait for him. 'S brilliant, right? But it's still... hard.

The City makes normal things so much harder.

[ If he ever left he'd be dead, he wouldn't be coming back. He hates the idea of someone else touching Steve but could he ask him to be alone forever?

[She spreads her arms out.]

[She squints at him because he's hazy on the edges for just a second and then he's back.]

[ Steve used to be just like her, too skinny to hold his liquor. It reminds him of New York and he hides his smile in his glass. ]

You're missing the whole point here, kid. We're trying to find you a fella.

Well, anyone we find at this hour's bound to be as special as the one from the Underground.

[She can hold her liquor just fine, thanks, but if they're knocking it back straight and in quick succession? Yeah, not so much. Also, tiny slip of a girl.]
