[ OOC: Feel free to assume your character has received an invite to the party via their inbox or word of mouth for Chekov's birthday! Everyone is welcome except you, Khan and presents are mandatory for the Enterprise's young navigator. Please tag under either section to keep the party somewhat ordered, and have fun! ]

A housewarming is a party you throw when you move into a new home. Sometimes people bring you things you may need like kitchen items or items for decor, but really it's just an excuse to show off your new place and have a party. Once Tony confirms my position as a lab assistant, Allison and I are moving in together. I think I'll probably end up working with you. [She beams at him.] Won't that be great?

This is a sound reason for a party. {Even if there is no warming involved. He brightens.] You will work at City Solutions? This is better than great! Maybe your laboratory will be near mine! I have been working alone for months and the quiet becomes very tedious--I would like nothing more than good company.

[A chuckle.] I don't know if I rate my own lab. I'm only looking into a position as an assistant; I'm not qualified to hire on when I lack the full credentials as anything on a higher level yet. So knows, maybe I'll end up your lab assistant!

[Draw what you will from that, Lydia.]
Qualifications do not always matter here, when qualified staff are always leaving. I would not be opposed to having you as a lab assistant, however. Work would be far more interesting.

[A pause.]
You know what, never mind - this is a party, we shouldn't talk about work.

[He drains the rest of his cup and looks to Lydia for guidance.}
What is next?

Good question. More drinking? More dancing? Lewd singing? Or we could talk, some more.

I would like to talk, or to listen. Are there things you would be willing to tell me about your home? I like to hear about those things--traditions, families, things like that.

[She seems surprised about that.]
Well. I live, or I lived in Beacon Hills, which is in California. My parents are divorced. They kind of don't pay attention to me unless there's something really serious going on. Um. I have a dog? Had a dog. Her name's Prada. I actually really miss her.

[Not that Pavel enjoys hearing about homes solely for the psychological benefits of the talkee. There's a certain joy in hearing about places in other dimensions, and the people and family who live in those other places and live lives just like anyone else. It makes the multiverse feel smaller and home a little less distant. (He is also incurably curious. This is most certainly a factor.)]
California... near San Francisco? [Forgive his geography.] I am sorry that your parents were not so attentive. I like to think that they are usually busy or worried rather than disinterested. Dogs are never disinterested. They would never replace parents, that is good that you had a dog.

What about your family?

[He thinks nothing of the subtle gesture, even if it doesn't go entirely unnoticed.]
Eh. My parents were very busy--my father more so after my mother died--but they loved each other and they loved me. I cannot complain.

[Guess what, Lydia. Of all of the people Pavel has known, you are the very first to ever inquire about his mother.]
I was eight, and so I remember a lot. Mostly spending days with her while my father was working. All good things.

When did you know you wanted to join...Starfleet, that's what it is, right?
no subject
Starfleet, yes, and I cannot say for sure. Since I have been old enough to play with toy shuttlecrafts, I think.
