Log;
After setting up the arrangements with Caspian, Tosh headed out for her third 'meal date' of the day, shaking her head in bemusement at how oddly these things seemed to schedule themselves. She'd anticipated a silent day around the flat, and instead had spent most of her time out with friends. Which was nice, and desperately needed. Now, she stood outside the door of the pub, leaning against the wall as she waited for her guests to arrive.

"Kraken? Do we have those," he asked the Narnian, not that Caspian could go searching for krakens and sea serpents anytime soon.
Now that feast smelled good, but as a gentleman should, he waited until Toshiko was ready to eat first. "I am unfamiliar with Lovecraft," a given.

As for Lovecraft, Peter shook his head again. Even with his adventures in Narnia, Peter hadn't found weird literature too fascinating.

She paused for a bite of her pizza, realizing that the boys were probably not going to eat until she did. "You know, I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are kraken out in the ocean someplace here."
no subject
The allure of kraken and that mysterious thing called the ocean were tempting, moreso than those parasitic creatures from the other day. But Caspian was careful not to venture too far and away, at least not without letting Peter know. He didn't want another repeat of that cryptic episode with the cliff face. After Toshiko took a bite so did he, but not without a moment of confusion in deciding whether he should use his hands or the tableware first.
"There is a captain who lives along the shore in his ship. He may know," Caspian suggested, "perhaps he may even be aware of what Ellington truly is."
Oh, and he took a gulp.
no subject
"He lived in your flat?" Peter spoke after swallowing his bite. "I wouldn't mind meeting him in person if he's as interesting as he sounds. Harmonica playing squids are rare, even in Narnia." The last part was a bit of a joke.
If it was a competition to see who could finish their glass first, Peter wasn't going to let Caspian win that easily.

"You mean a captain with an actual sailing ship? I didn't know there was one, maybe he'll take you out sometime, kraken spotting. I've never seen one myself, although I have seen a space whale. Which isn't a whale at all, actually, so that's probably not even relevant."
She nodded at Peter's question. "He was very small then, small enough to sit on top of your head or hang sort of wrapped around your neck. Used to sing me to sleep. I really miss that."
no subject
"Very rare," he added to Peter's comment even though he didn't know any better first hand. Really the source they should've been asking was Bree but horses were not likely allowed in the pub, not even Talking Horses. That was a shame. "Yes, the ship is very large with black sails," Caspian further described Hector Barbossa's pride and joy.
Really? He was nearing a quarter of glass empty but after taking another bite not even Caspian would try to chew and swig at the same time.

"A whale in outer space? Is that what you mean?" Peter asked Toshiko curiously. The Soviet's hadn't launched Sputnik just yet in Peter's time, and the idea of space travel fascinated Peter. After being in the city for around a month, the idea of space travel didn't seem too ludicrous.
no subject
She considered how much she ought to tell them, especially Peter, about space travel and aliens and time rifts. But a little information probably wouldn't hurt Peter's timeline any, and it wasn't likely to make a difference to Caspian's at all. "More like...an alien lifeform, from outer space, that rather resembled a whale. It came through a time rift, from a long way into the future."
[ooc: Ugh, I'm so sorry, I'm about to fall asleep on my keyboard. Can has backdating tomorrow?]

His expression brightened again at Toshiko's admission. For once he wasn't the only person to not have seen things.
"Outer space," asked the Telmarine, shifting his gaze between the two. He busied himself by drinking.
[ooc: Cool with me ^ ^]

"They probably exist in our time too. We just haven't seen any yet, I suppose." Peter wondered out loud, thinking of what other things existed out there. "If you don't mind me asking, what is your profession?" Peter wiped his mouth with a napkin before looking up towards Toshiko.
ooc: oops. Cool with me too! I'm probably off for the night too!

She eyed them over her beer, sorting through various answers to Peter's question. "I do technical support for an organization called Torchwood. Imagine...well, you both know about the computers and electronics and things that are used around here? For network access, or communications, or security, or even transportation? It's my job to keep that sort of thing in working order for our team. And also I study any alien artifacts that come our way. Or at least, I did."
Hopefully that all made at least some sense. Tosh wasn't sure how to explain it all in terms that Caspian was familiar with.
no subject
Caspian barely knew how a car worked and he knew just enough to speak over the network and keep some conversations private. He'd also figured out electricity and the joy of being able to choose a hot bath or a cold shower whenever he wanted, even if the apartment bathroom paled in comparison to the grand bath in the castle. The water here was much cleaner.
"You are like an archaeologist in that respect," Caspian commented with a smile. A tomb raider was another good term for it but his idea of what Tosh did would differ greatly were he to ever see a blowfish alien.

With that, Peter took a last sip of his beer, finally finishing his first drink.
no subject
She raised an eyebrow as she noticed Peter had finished his drink, wondering if there was going to be a second round to continue the boys' silent competition.
"Oh, and we maintain the Rift, try to make as little comes through as possible, and protect the area from the things that do. It's a pretty exciting job, honestly."
no subject
He also noted Peter's glass then raised his own to drain the last of his own. Caspian waved a hand for round two, and one for Toshiko too if she was needing anyway.
"And I hope that you will let us pay," he smiled. Teenager welfare checks.
no subject
He nodded at Caspian's last statement, even though pay wasn't the exact term he had been thinking of. Paying was a bit of an misstatement when things came free.
no subject
"Well...so far as we can tell there's only one Rift on our planet. But it's a bit more complicated than just a single opening. It does move around a bit, opens and closes, the stability fluctuates...just monitoring the activity is quite a job, let alone chasing after the things that it occasionally spits out."
She paused, realizing that there were similarities between the Cardiff Rift's activities, and what Peter and his family experienced. "I...have to admit that my focus is pretty exclusively on the goings-on around Cardiff."
no subject
"It moves...?" He asked, looking at Toshiko curiously. In Narnia it was sort of the same way perhaps. A second round of beers also meant another gulp for the Telmarine.
no subject
As if on cue, Peter took another sip. By now it was more of a compulsive action than anything else.
no subject
"A little. I mean..." She set her glass in the middle of the table. "Say that this is the- the machine we use to keep the Rift as under control as possible. The Rift, when it opens, doesn't do it right here, it may open at any point within miles of this point. It's always...there, but the amount of activity fluctuates. Does that make any sense?"
The questions aren't really a problem, but Tosh realizes she should divert the conversation toward topics that aren't based so heavily in an understanding of science even most people in her own time are unfamiliar with.
no subject
"It must be an interesting profession at least. You have much to do, controlling this rift and studying artifacts," Caspian nodded. Then took a sip. And a bit. He was rather comfortable and starting to feel just slightly warm.
no subject
"A bit." Peter said truthfully. "To be honest, it's a bit more than I can comprehend."
no subject
"Your turn, now, you two. I've talked too much already about myself."
no subject
"You have quite the adventures, Toshiko."
This time he grinned. Ah but when she asked about themselves, well, Caspian wasn't sure of what to say. He looked at Peter, High Kings first, or something. He busied himself with the beer and the food.
