Summary; Finals are over, the spring dance is here--finally a way for everyone, student and teacher, to relax! All the planning, preparation, and hard work has paid off. Students of all ages and grades are invited, and their teachers are sure to be there too. The school superintendents (read: the Deities) have done their very best to light up the Square. So whether you're from Westerberg High, Trinity Girls' School, Cutler's, Bikini Bottom Middle, or City U, you must have received your engraved invitation by now. Dress is formal, but the occasion is celebratory. Come one, come all. (And even those who aren't cursed may still come to take in the decorations, the food, the entertainment, and the merriment... or they can take pictures for blackmail when this is over.) So come and spend an evening under the stars...

"No, no," she waves her hands quickly, clarifying, "I mean--you know, anytime..."

She is hoping he'd agree...For some reason, the idea of Tyr being into research makes her pretty happy.

It feels like they're on the same page now, and having her ask that...it makes him feel pretty warm. He smiles and gives bright smile.

"Then I'm up for it any time. Your research is pretty interesting, right?"

She feels a bit less awkward now, her flush fading a bit, and nods.

"Of course. I mean, I research all kinds of things, but it's always interesting."

"Are you working on anything now?" he asks enthusiastically. He doesn't really know what different things she works on - not like how he knows Klarth works on proving magic is real (ha...) - but he just has this faith in her that whatever she researches, it's probably cool.

[negativegate]

"Of course I am," she answers, his enthusiasm catching. It's really easy to talk about when it seems that he's interested. "Right now, I'm looking into alternatives for power generation. I think that's going to be a big subject."

He loves how excited she is. He's still as excited as before as she explains even though he doesn't know much about what she's talking about. "Yeah? So you're just getting a head start on it now, huh?"

[negativegate]

Even though she usually brushes off questions, it's different with Tyr. She'd like to share ideas with him, even if she isn't sure how much he knows about it. "You've got it. I'm gonna be the first to crack into it."

[blackshadow]

"Really?" He seems surprised, but still excited - maybe even more excited. "That's going to be amazing..."

[negativegate]

"You know it!" That accompanies a confident grin, made even more so by Tyr's excitement. Pleased, she takes his hands in hers and reminds him, "We came here to dance, though, remember? Let's have fun--we can talk about the research again after the music."

She's completely right. He laughs and grabs her waist to dance with her. "That's true." Now that he's in a good mood again, it's easy to get back into things.

"That reminds me, though..."

[negativegate]

Her grin stays in place--she's really glad they got past that moment of awkwardness--and asks, "About what?"

"I want to go dancing with you again sometime." It's oddly easy to say that to her. It is just dancing...

[negativegate]

Without really thinking about it, she grips his hand a little tighter. Of course, it's just dancing...but she still really likes the idea. "If that's what it is...I'd like that, too. I didn't know you liked to dance so much, actually."

His heart flutters a little when he feels her hand hold his tighter- he didn't just imagine that. His cheeks flush a little, but he's not exactly embarrassed...

"I didn't know you liked it so much, either..."

[negativegate]

Oh, he's blushing... Rita feels oddly warm in response, though she doesn't release his hand, and replies, "So now that you know, you wanna dance more?"

"Of course I do," he answers more brightly, pulling himself out of lala land. It doesn't feel weird to hold her hand and dance with her anymore, and he lifts his hand to spin her around. "You're not bad."

[negativegate]

"'Not bad'? That's different from what you said before." She doesn't really feel irritated, though, swinging through the steps to the music again.

Her saying that makes him want to tease her. "Did I say 'amazing' before?" He keeps moving with the beat, keeping his eyes on her so they stay in synch. "Because that can work, too."

[negativegate]

Although she scoffs, it does still make her cheeks a little pink, and she tries to cover it up by replying, "Think you're being smooth now?"

He doesn't miss the way her cheeks flush a little. It's so cute... And maybe his cheeks get a little red, too. "It looks like it's working."

[negativegate]

And saying that makes her flush even more! How is he affecting her so much... She quickly huffs and sputters out a reply. "I-it is not! Like I'd fall for that!"

[blackshadow]

"What would you fall for?" he presses. He's getting a little more giddy as he dances with her. The way she's blushing makes him think that she likes him...but he could just be embarrassing her. Which isn't what he wants, but it's still amusing. "You know, so Klarth can work on his technique."

[negativegate]

Tyr's just a friend...she thinks...maybe. There is a moment she almost thinks about answering his question seriously, until he adds the bit about Klarth, and then the moment passes and she snorts. "Hmph! Like I'm giving him any pointers."

[blackshadow]

It's too hard not to tease her. He continues, "He could really use the help, though, you know." Part of him does want to know what Rita would fall for... But he hopes that what she falls for his him.

"I'm not going to make it any easier for him," is her answer. Klarth always has several lines for her, and she always ignores them--sometimes even finds them a little funny, in a silly way. But that's not what she's into... Then again, she hasn't really thought about what she is into, or what she likes about Tyr...
