→ don't make me read your mind you should know me better than that
When: Monday 20th May ( Evening )
Rating: PG-13, ( booze and swearing because you know what Bucky Barnes is like. . )
Characters: Bucky Barnes (
yourbestguysgun ) & Ginny Weasley (
hexuality )
Summary: Sometimes bros just have to get their brosis' drunk okay?
Log:
To hell with being sensible and responsible. That's what they talked about last time, how they both grew up too fast and now they deal with things the way people much older do. Bucky hates it in a way that sets his teeth on edge, that made him burn the picture of her brothers with the flame of a match. He meant to come by sooner.
Work caught up with him though and it's only now with the rare evening off that he comes by her office. He's got a bottle wrapped in brown paper and tucked into his leather jacket, two glasses in his pockets because Ginny is a classy lady and he's not gonna make her swig out of it like he would. ( Because Bucky never had class, what would he do with it. ) The shop's closed but not locked so he lets himself in, takes the steps to her office, calling out as he goes.
"You better be in here Weasley, I come bearing gifts."

[ Another sip of sharp whiskey. ] Then you can play your ... your thing.
no subject
[She takes a sip and almost laughs into her glass as she corrects,]
Quidditch. Honestly, Bucky, you've been around me long enough. Don't you know what it is?

[She puts down her glass, leaning across the desk.]
You liked flying well enough when I took you! I mean, you were little, but you were still you.
no subject
[ Crossing his feet over, swilling the last of his drink around in his glass. ] You don't see me pokin' things with sticks now.
no subject
[She laughs, knocking back the last of her drink and sliding the glass across to him.]
I still do, don't I? Just less literal. Poke into other people's business, that sort of thing. [With a pointed smile,] Isn't that what you're doing now? You're checking up on me, aren't you?
no subject
[ Yes, yes he is checking up on her. But he covers that up by leaning over to fill both their glasses. ]
no subject
I'm fine, I promise.
no subject
[ It doesn't mean he won't worry about her though. That's just the way he is. ] Here, drink up.

[She takes another drink and they're moving through this fast and she is tiny buuuut.]
Terrible influence, Bucky Barnes. That's what you are.
no subject
[ He says that word with pride. Of course he's a terrible influence. That's who he likes to be. ] You're friends with me anyway. Reckon you don't care much.

[Her gaze goes a bit distant as she talks, but then her brows knit briefly as she remembers that Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley was targeted, that they had to close down and go into hiding with the rest of the family for their anti-Voldemort stance and products.]
Yeah. [She takes another sip, shaking it off.] Would explain loads.

If the others are anythin' like you I reckon I should be glad the universe's still standing. [ He'd met Percy but he'd been quiet and Bucky had been surprised, almost, to see how restrained he was.
Her mother even had the same fire. ]

[God, she misses them, too. Maybe the alcohol's quickly getting to her if she's getting this nostalgic and she exhales, leaning back in her chair and curling into it, glass balanced on top of her knees.]
Do you remember your parents at all?
no subject
The Depression weren't great for people surviving their ills. And my dad was a soldier, he was gone a lot. He was just always telling me to be good. [ He gulps down a burning swallow of his drink. He doesn't remember much of his own mother, just the grainy photos on his father's desk. I remember Steve's mom looking after me the most, y'know? I guess she had to 'cause I wouldn't leave her son alone. [ A smile curving up her lips. ] She was a saint. She didn't think twice about letting the unruly kid from the orphanage into her house. Even if I was leading Steve astray half the time.
no subject
[Family is important to her. She'll always be interested. Softly,]
How old were you?
no subject
[ He swills the left over alcohol in his glass thoughtfully. ] Just comin' seven. We were gonna get ice-cream cake. Saved up the coupons.
no subject
You and your father?

I grew up in the Depression, hun. People were struggling after the first war. The world couldn't find her feet. Then Wall Street collapsed and everything went right back to hell on our own doorstep. I don't think he would'a liked what became of New York anyway. Better he died doing what he loved than dying on the streets like all those other poor bastards.
no subject
Mm. I understand that. [Dying doing what you love for who you love. She'd been ready to, expected it, even.] But you came through, didn't you, you and Steve.
no subject
[ He knocks down the rest of his drink easily. Steve survives, he doesn't. But he won't talk about that, not now. Leaning forward he fills his glass again and tops hers up. ]
no subject
Hey, slow down. I'm smaller than you.
no subject
Ain't nobody smaller'n that kid.
