tampered | (no subject)

Rose's grip tightens around him and she just nods. "Mmm...I'm sure we will be. Did you find a way out?"

Instead of answering her, he makes a very severe left turn, which almost brings them close to an oncoming car.

"Sorry!" he calls over to the car.

"Doctor!" Rose calls out as her heart skipped a beat. This is one intense dream. "Why aren't we there yet?" she says out loud. Maybe she had to think about it but she didn't know where they were going. Weren't you suppose to know in your dreams sometimes?

"Sorry about that," he tells her.

Despite her unease, he makes another hairpin turn at speed.

"We'll be there soon. Promise!"

She hangs on for dear life. All too real.

"I'm not dreaming am I?" she says as the wind hits her face.

He manages to cast a quick glance back at her.

"Nope! Not a dream. Hang on, we're nearly there."

He says this as he makes yet another turn.

Now she really wonders where they are headed.

Her fingernails flex against the fabric of his clothes. She's hanging on a bit too tight.

"Where...are...we...going?"

He knows they're getting closer now. Only a few more blocks.

"The garden area...What's it called again?"

"You mean the Xanadu?" she replied wondering why they would be going there at this hour. And then it hits her. Surprise breakfast!

"You made me breakfast?" And now she's guessing.

He laughs at the suggestion and finally pulls to a stop in front of the Xanadu. He hops off the bike and grabs her hand. He's still in a rush.

"We're here," he says. "Come on!"

Her fingers lace against his own as she steps off the bike and takes off her helmet.

"I don't see anything..." she says expecting to see a picnic blanket. Maybe it was hidden somewhere. She tries to look around.

"Doctor..."

Instead of answering, he sets off down a path, dragging her with him. As he goes, he checks his watch.

"Oh good," he says. "We just made it."

"Made it for what?" she asks still curious as ever. Why was he checking his watch for? He never really did that.

"What are we doing?"

He looks around, making sure he's going the right way.

"You'll see."

His expression brightens.

"Ah, I think I see them!"

"See who?" The mystery deepens and she is still not getting any answers to her dismay.

What was going on today?

She looks over at him confused.

"Luv, what's going on here?"

He drags her near a clearing where three people are standing around, waiting. One is his other self, the other, Burke the pizza guy, and a third man.

"They're all here," he says. "Brilliant."

Rose notices the trio, however one isn't familiar. "Doctor...Why are they here and playing cards?"

"Wellllll, they're waiting obviously."

He frowns as he watches the trio play cards. Of all the things they could be doing!

"For what? Are we joining them?"

He had woken her up to play cards then? Oh she wasn't liking this.

He notices she doesn't seem happy.

"Noooo! Not cards. They're here for the ceremony. There's other me, Burke, and Harry Lime. Wellllll, his name's not Harry Lime, but it'll do since he's the third man there. Better than calling him the Vic I think."

"Ceremony?" It's still lost on her. What is he going on about. "Vic...? Right..." She gives him a skeptical look.

"What sort of ceremony?"

He looks surprised then realizes he hasn't really filled her in on any of it. He starts to dig in his pocket.

"Oh right," he says. "Sorry. I should have mentioned. Welllllll, no time like the present."

He gets down on one knee, holding out a ring.

"Rose Tyler, will you do me the honor of being my wife?"

The present? She knows that soon enough she'll find out. However her mind can not stop thinking what it is. A way out? A new species? Those three little words she has been longing to hear.

Oh the possibilities.

But then she sees his actions and can not believe what she is seeing. Her knees go slightly weak and she almost wants to fall back at the sight. This has to be a dream, right?

"...What?" She looks utterly gobsmacked.

"What?"

Her hesitation slightly confuses him.

"See the ring?"

She looks down at the ring then back on his face.

"Yeah...But you...You...want...to...marry me?"

She almost wants to reach out and feel his forehead.

"No event?" Because she has to rule out that possibility. Only the City would give her this only to have some sort of twist to it.
